With most low profile drug trafficking cases in the Putnam County and surrounding areas scoring beween 3-5 years for the felon, how could Tommy Croslin draw 3 to five times the amount of hard time?
For one, he’s an addict who happened to be involved with the wrong people at the wrong time — and one of the last people to admit seeing missing five year old Haleigh Cummings alive.
Sources close to the case have told us Croslin had to know what was coming after law enforcement expressed their displeasure with how little they learned about the missing child case from the high drama search he lead them on down by the St. John’s River, where Croslin claimed cousin Joe Overstreet took him and tossed Haleigh’s body. Police swarmed the Antioch, Tennessee house of Misty Croslin’s cousin Sunday on a tip that he was among the suspects in an attempted armed robbery and assault seen driving a silver Chrysler 300.
After officers spotted the car in Joseph Edward Overstreet’s driveway, they spotted Croslin’s cousin in the front yard and began questioning him. According to the search warrants obtained by The Bald Truth and posted here, it went downhill from there:
While verifying the VIN number of the Chrysler, the officer found five pot plants growing in the back yard, and other drug paraphernalia inside. Overstreet was arrested and charged with felony pot growing; another associate was taken into custody as well, and another fled the house.
Overstreet was in the Satsuma visiting relatives days before Haleigh disappeared, then left to go home to Tennessee a day after she went missing. While others have accused him of taking the missing child from the trailer, where cousins Tommy Croslin and Misty place him, driving the blue van loaned to brother Timmy. Only Overstreet denies involvement, has been interviewed twice by Haleigh investigators and never charged in the case.
Sunday, as a SWAT team offered backup, police arrested Overstreet, and Justin Blair Hogue, 22, who was charged with grand theft, petty theft and possession of drug paraphernalia. The police affadavit says Hogue told officers he traded narcotics for the stolen Chrysler found in the driveway.
Rick Ryan, chief deputy for the Putnam County Sheriff’s Department, tells The Bald Truth investigators have no plans to travel to Tennessee to interview Overstreet, who has been interviewed twice about the Cummings case already.
