If Aruban logic rules, it’s open season for body dumpers.

When Joran Van der Sloot confessed to watching Natalee Holloway convulse into unconsciousness after what he called consensual sex on an Aruban beach in 2005, then dispose of her body by loading it onto a boat for an unceremonial burial at sea, he no doubt figured, no body, no proof.

Then slept soundly that night and went about bidness as usual, as advised, he said, by a mystery accomplice he’s yet to name truthfully. Several Aruban police investigators Friday sat down with Joran Van der Sloot in Rotterdam, the giant seaport in the Netherlands, and grilled the Dutch college student about secretly recorded video tapes that showed him saying he was with Natalie Holloway when she died. She vanished in May 2005.

According to a statement by the Aruban prosecutor, he wants a court order to detain Van der Sloot as a suspect after he confessed on hidden cameras to being with the Alabama High School honor student before he and a friend loaded her into a boat that took her to sea and dumped her body—even though he wasn’t certain she was dead. Joran van der Sloot, once a suspect in the Natalie Holloway vanishing, says the missing Alabama cheerleader fell unconscious after they had sex on an Aruban beach, and a friend dumped her body at sea.

But he feels no remorse, according to our translation of a Dutch TV sting that aired Sunday night in Holland. “I haven’t lost one night’s sleep over it,” he tells an undercover reporter.

Three years after the blond teenager went missing on a high school senior trip, a hidden camera for Dutch television captured Joran’s casual conversation on a videotape we had translated into English late Sunday.
