Misty Croslin’s lawyer, Robert Fields, tells journalist Art Harris of The Bald Truth that his client told police everything she knew about what happened to Haleigh Cummings within hours of her drug trafficking bust, but asked her to keep that fact quiet.
Since then, she’s kept her end of the bargain, he says, but feels it’s unfair to expect her to bite her tongue any longer while caught in a crossfire of media attacks vilifying her as law enforcement’s favorite “key” to unlocking the murder mystery of the five year old she reported missing almost 16 months ago.
Expect more from the attorney who tells The Bald Truth he believes his client has been telling and retelling the very same story about her cousin snatching Haleigh she told police after her drug trafficking arrest, with only “minor discrepencies” of the type many eye witnesses to crimes confuse–and only small details apart from what her brother, Tommy, has been saying.
And as long as he believes she’s telling the truth, he will stand by her as a pro bono defense lawyer, he tells me.

I am sure Mr Fields is a competent atty. However, the Croslin family need a lawyer that is use to handling the sharks circling that whole family. Mr Fields is local and wants to stay in good with his peers so he will cop to any plea deal they ask him to take such as 50 yrs for selling pills for her lover and best friend. If she had substantial representation she should be suing every person that has accused her of murder. The lies and rumors are rabid and rampent. All she can hope for is the baby’s remains are found under some pediphile’s porch. Even then I think she would be punished because of the pure hate the media and LE has create in the public domain, half the people would never believe her if the had a vidio of her being innocent and someone else committing the crime. Witch hunting is still live and well.

Misty told Fields everything about what happened to Haleigh after the trafficking arrest, and asked her to keep that fact quiet, yet she tells Chelsey what really happened in a letter..She tells Hollars another lie..Does Fields really know what happened, or is he believing Misty’s lies? He is standing by Misty because he believes she is telling the truth..What is the truth? I’ll bet LE would love to know..

Wow!!! So difficult to buy such used up stories. I do believe the latest is very very close to the truth. The only piece I am not biting on is the reasoning for such a horrific crime.

Well, I for one, buy it! From day one, I always felt that Misty was innocent of murder and/or kidnapping….and always felt Joe Overstreet is the man.

This is no garage sale!!!! It has to be the right person/persons who committed this crime. How has Misty kept her end of the bargain? When Hank first told Misty that he heard Tommy passed his poly, it stuck with Misty, that was the only thing she could focus on during the rest of her visit with her dad. Misty even says she is not sure even if it was Joe. It was not until Misty heard Tommy flunked the poly and she went back to Joe and yes she did include her brother Tommy.
Haleigh deserves Justice!!! It needs to be the one/ones who committed it! I pray to God that LE don’t just go bargain hunting when it comes to who murdered this beautiful little girl. Haleigh is the victim!! I will say though, Misty was a victim of Ronald Cummings, but that is it!!

Her attorney better not hold his breath waiting for someone to buy her story.
I believe there is SOME truth buried in with the lies.
The truth doesn’t have different versions.
No one was scared of Joe Overstreet, he isn’t some powerful drug dealer or member of organized crime.
I saw his emotional interview where he describes loosing family, he seemed genuine. I think he helped dispose of Haliegh, but I believe Misty killed her.
Joe didn’t display the cold and cocky attitude we have seen from Misty and Tommy.

It’s a garage sale alright. A few lies here, a few lies there, everywhere a lie…lie. We probably will never know the real truth behind Haleigh’s death. Misty’s now placing doubt on Ronald, saying he never answered her calls that early morning AND when she “opened the door,how come he was just there?” ….What I don’t understand is how can this bunch of characters conceal the truth for so long now?

It’s a reoccurring phrase with this bunch of nuts, even the lawyer now says “…and now we’re waiting for someone to BUY IT”! Just like Chelsea with the letter, just wanting a truck or car for Timmy to go to work in! Bull crap! Like a garage sale, most of the things for sale are just junk that no one wants or needs! Hint to lawyer, nobody buys anything Misty or Tommy says! And furthermore, it is not MINOR discrepancies! She should have told police what she knew that same morning that Haleigh was taken, but I think she could not do that without implicating herself!

I don’t know who is full of it most. You or Misty. I know you feel you have to believe her in order to defend her, but your gonna hurt your credibility as a trial lawyer, by making yourself look as dumb and uneducated as the whol klan. polygraphs are not admissable I know, but to keep failing the same main questions I’m sorry but that speaks volumes, not to mention, she has no credibility becuase of all the illeagal acts she is involved in. How stupid can you be, to get into the spotlight everytime you turn around, inspite of you begging to be quiet and stay on your ps&qs.She may be dumb as far as education but her street smarts are pretty. It’s just a shame that she has been able to dupe you too. I feel sorry for you and your future

I know it sounds callous, but what he meant to say is that he believes she has told everything she knows, though we now hear her having doubts about it herself, and wants some sort of plea bargain to use what she k nows against the person he believes LE is trying to nail…Yep, cousin Joe. who denies it all.
But we should appreciate the fact Fields doesn’t go grandstanding and is doing this pro bono only because he feels she has no one and deserves to have an attorney. Art

Art, I have a funny feeling about Cousin Joe. He sure doesn’t act like a guy who is falsely accused, if he was innocent he would be the first one to demand a lie detector test to clear his name. I wish the cops would put as much pressure on him as they did the Croslins.

Art, I just hope and pray that if misty is inocent of Haleigh,s death, and is scared of someone, that she just gets drug rehab until she is 21 and tells all…. she is so young. Ron has ruined 3 teens life. Most teens would stay in school, but some have learning disabilities and just go in the wrong direction, I think Misty might be one of them… Did she really quite school in the 6th grade? If she did was she raising herself? ART, Thankyou for all the hard work and honesty!

Art, in the new tapes when Misty thinks Tommy passed the poly. Misty says she should have stayed in Tenn. last October when she was there. This alone should tell us she was not afraid of Joe Overstreet! Misty had already implicated him in Haleighs disappearance and told the whole world he had molested her. If she were so afraid of him almost a 1000 miles away wouldn’t she be more afraid of him only a few miles away? Seems logical to me. Once she hears Tommy flunked the poly and now agreed it was Mistys story. Misty told her G.Hollar that Tommy and Joe dumped Haleigh in the river. I understand Mr. Fields feeling this girl has noone, but you heard how cold Misty was talking about Haleigh on the UC tapes. Haleigh had not been seen in 11 months at that time and Misty tells the UC ” Haleigh F**ked my 17th birthday party because she was there”. This is the same little girl that Misty said she loved as she were her own. Misty did not sound like she loved Haleigh at all on that Drug tape. Ronald had showed no emotions when talking about Haleigh on those tapes either when he mentioned Haleigh. He just wanted too make sure noone found out he is a drug dealer just as he was before Haleigh disappeared. He cannot even compare to Marc Klaas, Tim Miller, Jessica Lunsfords dad, John Walsh, Natalie Halloways dad and look in the news for Tracy Ocasios dad who is still searching for his daughters body from last year in Orlando,fl. Ronald needs to stop using his daughter to get sympathy to keep his butt out of trouble or lesser jail sentences. He failed Haleigh!! He has not appeared to be in the class above as a grieving father searching for his daughter. Pat Brown I believe is correct that it will be Ron and Misty that gets charged for the crime against Haleigh. There will be others that participated in this cover-up. Sorry for the long post Art. My appreciation goes out to you for all your hard work on this case and to LE for doing everything they can to find JUSTICE FOR HALEIGH!! and make sure it sticks when they make those charges!!

If not, you should know by now, as my very smart regulars do, where we come from and what we stand for…So the highest form of insult, though others we know come and that we don’t make stuff up, and work hard to dig and confirm what we report. hi art,you have been slammed hard on blogger news,i find your site and articles very informative and true and anyone with a brain would know any breaking news even on t.v. gets straightened out as the story breaks and corrections (such as human bones are really animal bones)but mistakes are made and corrected,,it turns my stomach when i hear hank whinning on the phone to misty about how bad his and lisa’s life has turned out ,i’ll bet none of that crap was comming out when he was getting his doctor shopping map laid out and had 300 pills prescribed.i think he’s wanting people to continue serving up free life,i personally think florida needs to keep ownership (as hank calls lisa’s probation)of that whole clan (BOTH SIDES) in florida and mass.why let them have fresh victims in different locations,god bless haleigh i pray for her everyday,i personally think after that horrible fight, when lisa, tommy and hank went to get misty when she called and ronald went to jail is when tommy ,hank and timmy (being blood) made sure when joe was up here to pay ronald back,also when the rat showed up the intimidation factor hit and ronald entered hillbilly hell,thats why misty is never gonna tell,it just sounds so phoney when hank says,how much he cared for haleigh and how he would never hurt her,i am a hillbilly and when a weasle has control of your only daughter and beats your son up yah we will go for (his haleigh)’heart’,very deep south drugged up illiterate thinking,sorry this is so long,keep up the good work,thank you.

Despite Misty’s lies and flip flops, as declared by LE, and reported here, we find it distasteful and condescending to refer to anyone as poor white trash or trailer trash and gave her family an avenue to speak with dignity long before other sites declared them their pet rock du jour.

I think she has told them the truth but it is just taking a while to establish credible evidence to arrest Joe, whom I still believe killed Haleigh. As such she is getting restless because she thinks they should take this under consideration and let her out but they can’t even if they wanted to until it is established what happened to poor little Haleigh. It would jepordize where they have gotten to so far because if she gets out, A) she is at risk from Joe and B) they all will have time to re exam their stories and adjust accordingly. Just a happy little girl caught up in drug addict chaos.

Lora-No Donna was no undercover cop, but a volunteer for Texas Equusearch, who was fired by Tim Miller after a rather sordid episode, he tells me, but she was sending info to local LE about Misty, and did keep them informed where she was taking her. She just got too close and got burned. art

Every time I see Hank Croslin my heart goes out to him regardless of his past lifestyle. He and Lisa have two children in the crossfire of a murder.
I don’t think anyone basks in the thought of a child being harmed regardless of their social strata.

Her lawyer is in denial just like she is I guess thats what he is getting paid for. Nobody believes this story now and they didn’t believe it then. Misty wanted to be an adult so bad and do adult things so now she is in an adult prison facing adult charges. She should have just got a job like the rest of us and forget the killing and drugs.

I believe that Misty Croslins was not home. She left to go party with her friends. Returned home shortly before Ron returned from work. That is why when Ron called her all day she did not answer, she was not there. She left the kids several times, a pedophile that lives close by, probably being observing this, had the opportunity and took advantage of it. You will find her remains under his front porch of his home. Ron Cummnings is a drug dealer, that should not have custody of a dog, and definite not a child.
He has turned on Misty that is a lunatic to get a out of jail FREE card. Misty should serve about 4 years in jail, and Ronald 20 for failing his child and selling drugs.

Art–I think it is highy unethical for any lawyer (pro bono) or not to make such remarks about a client. The most he should say is “No comment.” This case is so bizarre and there are just a FEW facts to base any opinions on. I am highly skeptical of the way this case has been handled in the media and by LE. I do not understand HOW LE can “clear” the sexual offenders so quick. There were 44 sexual offenders living within a 5 mile radius of Haleigh. I would NOT put any weight in failed LDTs because they are unreliable (ask the FBI and the creators of LDTs). Misty allegedly has failed how many LDTS (4 if I recall) and HER lawyer let her take them? What kind of lawyer would do that or more so would a guilty person take multiple LDTs knowing they are “guilty”? I seriously doubt that. My point is (sorry for rambling) there are so many avenues that LE could be investigating and should be like sexual offenders and the Sheffield/ Griffis side. Has anyone not heard some of the ramblings by Marie Griffis early on? They sure gave me reason to pause (especially the one about Haleigh being transported to Georgia or Alabama). … With the recent drug sentencings looming, I believe that this case will fade to black. Haleigh will be lost in the shuffle and the truth will never be unveiled. I believe the spin this case has generated has only convicted the persons in jail for Haleigh’s disappearance in the public’s mind, but there has not been one ounce of evidence to support LE’s theory. If there was then someone would have been charged. I think the first poster was right–it has been a modern day witchhunt in Satsuma. May Haleigh be found and the people that love her find peace and justice.

Robin–I can tell you just about every old theory and suspicion you raise has been investigated and put to bed. How can you even try raise old bogus rumors when Misty and Tommy, whether you believe the details of how it went down, say she was taken to the river and tossed…no body found…Are you saying they are confessing to something Marie and company did? C’mon Robin…The baby snatch and the red pickup that supposedly was seen and took Haleigh to Alabama or Ga., that was tracked by LE and dismissed, and every GPS of every RSO in the county and their whereabouts were checked, they tell me…Ok, that takes us back to those closest to the little girl, sorry if that doesn’t fit your conspiracy theory. As for LDTs, they CAN BE very reliable, but it depends on the skill of the operator, and that varies widely. Those trained by the FBI use it to get confessions, and often do. Are they perfect? Of course not, but they are used and relied on. Art

What a teribly sad story and a horrible mixed up family! I am southern and have never in my life heard as much of a mess as this. I think Misty definitely holds the key to Haleigh''s disappearance! Every crazy theory has been floated on TV and the web. It will take one person honestly talking to staighten out this tragedy and bring Haleigh home. Thank you Art for your fine reporting. I always enjoy your appearances on Nancy's show.
