Did Misty Croslin See Cuz With Haleigh?

To hear her family tell it, Misty Croslin woke up the night Haleigh Cummings vanished to see her Tennessee cousin standing in the doorway with the five year old.
Leonard Padilla dropped that mini-blockbuster on HLN’s Nancy Grace Show Wednesday night, saying he’d heard it from Misty Croslin’s sister in law in Massachussetts; I thought the former prosecutor would fall out of her chair, over what Padilla seemed to report as new, but she knew, was not…
Like the undefeated Fulton County prosecutor she was (130 convictions, no acquittals), Grace probed, then reminded Padilla this angle had been out there for some time, and that cousin Joe had never been arrested or charged with a crime. It was Croslin who was behind bars, charged with trafficking in painkillers and facing more than 100 years in prison…
Indeed, it is one of the oldest rumors in the case, cranked up shortly after the five year old vanished…by none other than Misty Croslin’s family…so old it sort of sounded fresh when Padilla tossed it out there Wednesday night, especially with the intriguing detail…that Misty saw him in the doorway with Haleigh…To the bounty hunter, it must have seemed like a fresh bone, too good to give up right away…why not chew on it a while. Nancy asked me for background…
Cousin Joe, I explained, had indeed been the Croslin family’s favorite fall guy from Day One, a name they’d immediately offered me as their favorite suspect when we met in Satsuma…Cousin Joe, who was staying at the home of Misty’s brother, Timmy, the morning Haleigh turned up missing…and Timmy’s wife, Chelsea, who told me she awoke to find the car keys moved and the van parked in a different spot than she remembered, later recalling Joe had slept in his clothes.
Nancy observed that was hardly a smoking, gun, and gave me the famous raised eyebrow: “I’ll give you a chance to redeem yourself later.” I took my spanking like a man. She later explained what was well known to Haleigh case afficianados, that the cousin Joe angle had been around, the Croslin family red herring for more than a year Haleigh has been missing. She asked Padilla where he was getting his nouveau info.
Padilla reported he’d gotten that tidbit from Chelsea Croslin, Misty’s sister in law in Massachussetts.
After the show, I decided to retrack the rumor, and got Chelsea on the phone about midnight. She was painting her daughter’s room pink; I could hear kids squealing in the background, and husband, Timmy, who we’ve been hearing Misty beg for money in taped calls she made collect from lockup at the St. John’s County Jail, whispering information about Joe’s background to Chelsea to pass on to me. I relayed Padilla’s story about their conversation.
“I never said that, he got it completely twisted,” she smarted in an interview with The Bald Truth. “He’s either crazy or senile.”
Maybe crazy like a Fox. I’m guessing Padilla would dispute senility, but maybe cop to a senior moment or two beneath his signature black cowboy hat.
“What I heard was that Joe was standing over her in the bedroom,” Chelsea went on, “and that she woke up and got scared.”
Chelsea said it was just the latest twist on the family rumor and had landed in her lap a month ago, just after her sister in law, Misty Croslin, was popped for eight felony drug trafficking charges.
While Joe was a known commodity, ruled out by investigators in the early stages, Chelsea tells me she still phoned the Haleigh case agent on loan from FDLE (Florida Department of Law Enforcement) to tell him how she’d heard the old rumor recycled and re-tweaked.
It had come to her second or third hand, not directly from Misty, she said. “I said, ‘Here’s what I just heard. Joe was in the bedroom and Misty woke up and got scared.’”
And? “The agent just blew it off, like it was nothing important, said he’d looked into it and it was bullsh–, ‘ she told me.
“When they react that way, you don’t know what it means,” Chelsea went on. “You don’t know if they’re trying to cover it up because if it is true, having it out there might tip off the guy and mess up their investigation, or… if it really is nothing –they don’t exactly tell you for sure either way.”
What I can report is that investigators have grilled Overstreet at least twice outside Nashville, once when he was staying with his mother and looking for work, but have nothing to charge him with, that he’s free and Misty remains in jail, as Nancy reminded Padilla…His mother told me he denies any involvement or knowledge of what may have happened.
The day Haleigh turned up missing, Chelsea tells me Joe was putting up Haleigh posters, then split for Tennessee. That’s where the agents found him.
“He said, ‘We know what we can prove, and what’s not true,’” says Chelsea, “And we are moving forward. Thanks for calling us.’”

This still sounds believable to me. I have often wondered about the cousin since the first alleged rumor. If in fact the investigator blew Chelsea off after such a detailed account, that to me sounds like poor investigating. Art, do you believe that they will probe Misty about this new accusation or account of what is being said? I don’t see the harm, especially when they have no other leads anyhow.
On another note~I have been a fan of Nancy for years, but I, like so many others…am getting fed up with the smirks and comments that she makes to you and Padilla along with so many others on her show nowadays. I believe she gets out of line too often anymore. I for one appreciate all the information and digging you do on these stories. She has you on the show to ask you about what all you have discovered, so in my opinion, she should appreciate it and take into consideration that you all are not saying that what you find is an absolute fact, but merely new “gathered” information. Way to go Art on the show tonight by the way. You did a very good job as always!

Just curious, was there a search of the van in question? And did anyone in the family recall what kind of clothing cousin Joe was wearing the night of Haleigh’s disappearence?

Thanks for letting us know about the conversation you had with Chelsea. That clears things up a bit. As you know in a previous post i said “if it’s true Joe is a RSO” and i phrased it that way on purpose because i didn’t recall the source so i didn’t want to say it as a proven fact. Had to be a blogger’s comment since there are only two sites i go to on this topic, and if you didn’t say it i’m sure the other one didn’t either. You are right, Misty is the one in jail.
I spent some time the other day going back and reading the “archives” here on this case. I didn’t get all the way back to you’re first articles on this case but i plan to. There is so much information to be found and it helps refresh the memory of how this unfolded. I am glad i checked out your website, very informative and continual updates.
I just want the truth to come out, as we all do on this tragic case and it’s easy to get sidetracked with “what if’s”. What i do know for sure is between LE and you and Nancy keeping the pressure on, the truth will come out in time. I also know that for all the tapes released, there are many more detailed ones not released and i hope those will hold the key to solving this case. Maybe i give Hank too much credit but i think when he gets tired enough and if LP stops giving them money, he could get to the truth if he wanted to. He cared about Haleigh and i think it’s getting to him. He seems to show more concern than anyone else, and i know you have talked to him personally. I don’t expect you to comment on it for obvious reasons but i know you have a feeling one way or another if i am correct about him. I know he would never be dad of the year but he seems to show sincere concern for Haleigh which is rare in that family.
I’m a viewer on the outside looking in, and i look forward to seeing you on NG and hearing you two ( and others)discuss the case. It helps seperate fact from fiction and keeps the focus where it should be.
Art, are there no additional charges they can add on Misty for child neglect or something along those lines? My guess is if they start coming up with charges related to Haleigh’s disappearance she might all of a sudden remember what happened.

About six months ago, when all of the other possible scenarios were being discussed, I brought up the possibility of “Cousin Joe” as the perpitrator. Your reply was that LE had questioned him and cleared him as a suspect. But do you know why or how? I ask this because -
1) If I remember correctly, his own family had said that the man was a….,
(if he has no rso record, you can’t call him such names here, maybe somewhere else…and be specific pls as to where you heard and what family member..only as a policy most legitimate news media follow, we do we report incidents with names of sexual assault victims… tx art)
2) He had an altercation with Ronald THE DAY BEFORE Haleigh dissapeared, to which (I read someone claim) he said he would “get even”, and
3) He had been staying with the Croslin’s in Satsuma for some time, but bolted for Tennessee after Haleigh’s dissapearance.

4) If I’m not mistaken, the two times he was grilled was just shortly after the abduction occured, but not since.
(I reported that first and exclusively, after speaking with his mother and others in Tenn and sources, so you likely read it here, yes…–art)
I feel that the fact he slept in his clothes that night is irrelevant, and the possibility of his using the van is speculative (since LE did, in fact, search the van and do tests on it for fingerprints, DNA, etc., with no results that could be considered “evidence”). But the three aforementioned facts remain. So again I ask, despite the FDLE case investigator’s comment, is “Cousin Joe” viewed as a suspect or not, or is LE planning on scrutinizing him much more closely?

Yes the police took the van away for a while and ran tests on it. The tv news featured a story with one of the Croslin daughter in laws walking around the van and discussing the scratches on it. Obviously the police didn’t find anything to connect the cousin with the disappearance since he left town.

Ok, if Misty really did wake to see cousin Joe I would think she would have told LE that night. She would of had no reason not to. Ron wouldn’t have blamed her. This story is a crock of crap. If he did do it then there is more to the story and she is involved. That would be the only reason she wouldn’t have spoken that night. If Joe did take Haleigh Misty gave him permission to do so.

Yes, the van was taken into custody and thouroughly searched and returned about a month later. I have not yet heard what Joe was wearing other than jeans. I suspect a t-shirt but am unsure of what color.

I am no fan of Nancy Grace, but tolerate her show to get any updates on the case. She is annoying, but she is not as stupid as she is acting lately. IMO, she is trying to anger the Croslin family into someone slipping up and saying something. Maybe? She is well aware that they watch her show, as they have mentioned it from jail.
Art-can you please tell us more about the phone calls that Ronald made that night? We have now heard 90 calls!! There has to be an answer in the phone calls.

Sorry, cousin Joe was checked & rechecked. Misty & her family are looking to “pin the tail on the donkey”.
Though Misty is not being truthful of the entire night, I still think she is clueless as to what happened to Haleigh.
These people are too stupid to fool LE.
And they are a poor community.
People will talk to get money if they have to. They have nothing to say.

I believe he could be involved, but not as Chelsea says Misty implied. There is a great possibility that perhaps Chelsea is covering for her husband. It was Chelsea and Timmys van that was moved, we learn Misty made a phone call to Timmy before 911 was called. Misty already made a prior statement that Timmy was not involved and Timmy was Rons favorite family member of the Croslins. Joe could have went with Timmy, but maybe not. I won’t rule out Joe Overstreet. We also found out that Joe was passing out fliers of Haleigh. He did not skip town right away. Misty has pointed suspicion towards Tommy and Joe since the beginning. I believe if this was the truth she would have told that in the voice stress and poly and not came up deceptive. This would have been over along time ago. The only two people Misty has not turned over on is Timmy and Ronald.JMO

I have always believed that Ron set Joe up when he accused Joe of stealing Ron’s gun. MISTY found the gun in the ditch in front of Tim and Chelsea’s house while she was on the phone with Ron–he even had to tell her to lift an old piece of wood. Now…how would Ron know it was in a ditch under wood? Because he put it there.
Don’t know why he would, but my suspicion is that, Joe being an ex-con, any violation would put him back in jail, stealing a gun has an automatic amount of jail time, and Ron had a hard on for Joe–so to speak.
Speedy: yes the van was hauled away and searched the first day–remember Misty asked Chelsea about the crease that was all the way down the side of the van, and Misty said she and Ron’s blanket was in the van “when they took it.” That makes no sense to me. Why was their blanket in the van?

This case just ets more and more confusing, and Nancy Grace has the manners of an alley cat! I can only imagine how she was brought up!
I think it will take at least several more months of being jailed for Misty to finally tell everything she knows…and take a polygraph to see if she is finally being truthful. I’m so happy that Padilla is taking Mammy & Pappy to Ca…at least they can’t visit her, and tell her what to say.

Here is a theory: Misty got home after 3 days of partying and did not want to babysit. The grandmother would not watch the children. Misty called her brother to come over to watch the kids, and told him she would leave the door propped open. Somehow the Joe, the cousin, learns of this, or just happens upon the situation. When the cousin Joe arrives, Misty is asleep and the he comes in the through the propped open door. Misty awakens and see him, but due to her drunken state nods back off into sleep. Meanwhile, he takes off with Haleigh. I am wondering whether Haleigh’s brother, Jr., been shown a picture of cousin Joe? Are the clothes Chelsea saw Joe wearing the following morning (from the night before) black (as was recalled by Jr.?).

I really can’t understand why anyone would be a guest on NG show. She should be working for the national enquirer. She makes things up and twist a tiny bit of truth into a full blown confession. She has done a lot more damage than she has good and I can’t understand those old adoring fans that call in, I wonder if they are getting paid for that or just relatives. Is this Joe Overstreet everyone is talking about,You can google his pic standing next to Misty and his Myspace page will come up,He seems like a decent looking kid.
Maybe he was there and saw or knows what happened and does not want to get involved because he is scared for his life and thats why he took off,I thought he was staying in the state of Mass with other family.
If Ronald rolled Misty in a ball to hurt her and has shown people his guns and everyone knows his Mom works within the Sheriff department and Ronald has had many charges dimissed against him over the years,I believe Ronalds Mom could cause people to be scared by threating them and if Joe was around what ever took place that night may have people so scared that no one wants to talk.Something dramatic happened that night, Ronald Made to many phone calls,the beds were not slept in,Ronald never ran around outside looking for Haleigh,He said Haleigh was stolen,Within a few days of Haleigh missing Ronald and Misty leave state, Who would leave the state instead of looking for your child.
Ronald knows what the truth is and Misty is to scared to tell the truth because Ronald and his Mom has her convinced something will happen to her family,Ronalds Mom looses a grandchild and is all happy about Ronald and Misty getting Married Then they live with her,The jail conversations with Ronald and his Mother are as fake as pro wrestling they know they are being recorded and there playing it up for who ever buys into it.
Why did Ronald not call 911 that night he made alot of phone calls but the plan was for Misty to so he could act crazy in the back ground,What did Ronald mean when he told Misty hang up the phone he has better people to talk to.What did Ronald bury under that tent could this be the reason he wanted to put a tent in the backyard and stay in it so know one could look under the tent.Maybe putnum county should relook at the location that tent was set up.

I thought that this Joe/Haleigh scenario was the most plausible one in the beginning…(he) left, VAMOOSE, the next morning. Isn’t this the time a relative would want to STAY another day or two, to help search? This could also explain why that van was moved, parked elsewhere, and returned with a deep scratch~ But wouldn’t Ron have been ranting and raving about Joe early on? If this is true, wouldn’t Misty reiterate it, and shout it out, over and over? At one point, didn’t she even go back to her grandmother’s house, where THAT cousin was staying, and Grandma told the media that she’d suspect HIM before she thought of Misty. Isn’t Joe the … one who (Ronald said) fed nearby alligators and live bunnies and local cats? DINGDINGDINGDING!
You’d think that’s the answer, but then why hasn’t Ronald hunted him down and killed him, as he often proclaimed he would do? Why would Ronald’s mother feel the need to tell him there were snitches in jail, if that was the working theory?

Have Chelsea, Timmy, Cousin Joe Overstreet and his Mom been administered a Polygraph?
If I remember correctly, Timmy & Chelsea Croslin, brother and sister-in-law Of Misty Croslin, live in Massachusetts. Cousin Joe Overstreet and his Mother live in Tennessee. Am I correct (it’s hard to keep up with the Croslin Clan)?
Were Cousin Joe, Timmy and Chelsea visiting Satsuma when Haleigh disappeared? If so, why were they in Satsuma? When did they leave Satsuma?
Misty’s account(s)of the night Haleigh vanished does not mention Joe in the bedroom standing over her. Is this fact or fiction? I do remember an early mention of cousin Joe. Is he the Croslin family sex offender? If so, where, when and to what extent?
My two cents, Misty AND Ronald are the people to look at! I would not discount Cousin Joe or Tommy either. I believe drugs are involved. I suspect a family cover-up on Ronald’s side of the family, maybe Misty’s as well. I do not think Misty would take the fall for any of her siblings or cousins. They seem to turn on each other at the drop of a hat! If Misty is covering for anyone, it is herself and/or Ronald.
I wonder if Haleigh was actually in the trailer home when Great Grandma Sykes delivered clean cloths. Why would she be washing the cloths when Ron and Misty had a washer and dryer? Were the washer and/or dryer broken? If so, then Misty could not have washed and dried Haleigh’s blanket as she stated. I suspect Ronald’s family could be covering up for their “baby Ronald”. In the beginning, Ronald’s Mom and Grand-mom were taking Misty’s side too. Now they are changing their tune. Ronald making 90 phone calls to Misty the night Haleigh vanished is just insane! Something BIG was happening before Ronald went to work. The question is what? Ron had to go to work (and put in overtime), to establish his alibi. Misty was to young and stupid to realize this left her the person of interest. I do not think Misty would cover-up anything for cousin Joe. She did not even like him if I remember correctly.
I think Misty’s statements to LE and the media are nothing more than a big concocted fabrication on Misty and Ronald’s part.

It really bothers me that Padillas’ first instinct wasn’t to tell the police what Chelsea said to him or even to say something to you or Nancy off air. No, instead he sits there like the cat who ate the canary and just ever so casually drops that little piece of information.
Art, how was Misty never charged with, at the very least, making a false statement to Police? If she has said she woke up with Joe standing over her, that’s a completely different story than her original statement. She seems utterly convinced these drug charges are somehow bogus, which is absurd. But if they asked her about Joe, and she changed her statement, maybe they’d have even more to charge/pressure her with.

I don’t believe the cousin was involved. If he was, Misty would have thrown him under the bus,she willname any one in the world, if it gets the focus off of her! The only person(s) she is protecting is herself and her domineering boyfriend….I also, believe that her Father does not believe her stories, but for some reason hesitates at questioning her fully………

I would imagine they gave thie Joe a poly and yup, misty is the one in jail. Others are in jail as well but clearly they wanted Misty. Maybe it is because I have no seen this Joe but Hank Jr raises my eyebrow as well as Misty. Then again maybe they all would. If I saw more of them.

I dont understand why Ronald would leave his children with Misty a minor and known drug addict. Did he really trust her more to watch his kids instead of their own mother? They said that Misty was gone for three days on a drug binge. But she wasnt afraid to go home before Ronald went to work and they were fighting really bad because of her being gone. Didnt Ronald keep trying to call her on those days she was gone and why did he keep trying to reach her that night heleigh went missing? was it because he was so concerned that Misty was with someone else and not concerned about the well being of his children and I believe that he is as much to blame as Misty. Why didnt he call his mom to go and check on the kids? and if he was so concerned about them I really believe that if his mom was at work she would of taken off to go and check on them any grandmother would have. But I believe that his only concern was of Misty. Did the police do a drug test on Misty? and if no why not? you can tell by looking at her and the story she told that being gone for three days and not sleeping that their were drugs in her system. And why would Ronald call her brother to see if she was home instead of his mom or even taking off of work early to see if his kids were ok because his only concern was of Misty. He never told her brother to go and check on the kids it was go and see if Misty was home. He didnt want the real mother taking care of the kids but let Misty who comes from a very disfunctal family and the only thing on her mind is where am I going to get my next high. I believe Ronald put those children in harms way and he is suppose to protect his kids instead of worrying about the drug addict of being faithfull and not the well being of his children. I posted in March of 2009 at the Bald Truth. Do Halieghs pictures prove abuse post 240 that on the Nancy Grace show Misty herself mentioned cousin Joe and Ronald had a fight over a gun and that Joe was a RSO. Another Misty lie or is it. Why did cousin Joe take off right after Haliegh went missing? If you’ll remember Art Harris, the interview on Nancy Grace with Misty and her mother sitting on the couch and crying played in it’s entirety you will hear Misty say that “they had her in the van”. Play it back and listen to it and figure out who “they are”. Misty says that quite often. How can a guy on probation be around guns,c’mon LE.

OMG! Art after watching the different videos of Misty from jail talking to her family and the undercover drug bust,I think I was wrong about Misty.She is not the shy little innocent girl I thought she was.Misty showed her true colors when the camera’s were off, at least she thought they were.LOL!In the jail tapes she came off like a real bitch,thinking of no one but herself.It was all about me me me.No mention about Haleigh.I wonder if her brother Tommy knows how she told her dad to get her out first.Some sister.Oh and by the way she looked like she knew what she was doing in her drug dealings too. All well & good, except his motives aren’t altruistic & have nothing to do with the desire to save or find Haleigh. I wonder how many of his charges will be dropped for his on camera efforts to sell out his own little girl? How many times has he sold her before?
I look at Misty & envision her when she a little girl, like Haleigh, who never stood a chance. I look at Misty & see what Haleigh most likely would have become.
The things this entire cast of characters must have seen & experienced as children to become what they are. Their stories, all too sad for words, lying together cloaking in darkness the loss of a precious child.
People will read of Haleigh, a hundred years from now, and view the key players like the tattered characters of a Charles Dickens novel, too tragic to have ever been real.

In your response to Pat, you do not deserve a “spanking with grace.” I really dislike the way she treats you sometimes as well as her other guests. I don’t know if this is truly her personality or if its just for TV. Either way I believe that if you want respect then treat others with respect.
You are the one that has kept Haleigh’s name out there without fail since the beginning. You should be commended for this not “spanked”. I wish you had your own TV show!

Everyone keeps saying Misty and her family are too stupid to fool le so they aren’t involved. They haven’t fooled LE. LE doesn’t believe her version of events. I know she only has a 6th grade education, but come on, you really think that because she is ignorant she could be easily tricked into spending the rest of her life in prison? Scott Peterson didn’t break, Casey Anthony hasn’t broke and the list goes on and on. The only ppl that can be forced and tricked into confessing are the ones that think they are to smart to get busted and the ones who feel guilt and remorse. This girl has been raised like a gypsy. not trying to offend anyone or steriotype but we all no that there are some gypsy that roam around the county in packs committing crimes for a living. They aren’t educated but they are taught from an early age to keep their mouths shut and never confess or flat out snitch someone out. any family that have illegal activity involvement teach their kids to keep their mouths shut. they are told that when the heat does come down to throw LE a bone and hint that maybe this person or that person has something to do with whatever the crime may be. they are taught to never go any farther than a hint though so the person they are accusing can’t be arrested because of lack of eveidence.
This is what Misty whole family has done from day 1.
1.Misty says cousin Joe isn’t right and can’t be trusted.
2.Misty’s sister in law says the van looked like it may have been moved and Joe had access to the keys. (Note- she never says the van was moved just that she thought it wasn’t parked in the same spot.)
3.Misty then hints to one of her brothers being involved.
4.Her brother says he went to the trailer and it seemed like no one was home but he couldn’t say he was 100% sure no one was there.
5.Mistys mom and dad say in an interview that they think misty may have forgotten to share some info about that night with LE and maybe she knows more.
6.The jail letter from Nay Nay. She knew they were reading her mail, come on. She sent them to that lake on a wild goose chase.
7.Mistys interview in NY. She said they needed to look at the other side of the family, but if i remember right she never really says who shes referring to.
8.and now we are back to Joe.
It doesn’t take a phd to be able to lie and avoid le and telling the truth. They want ppl to think they are stupid hillbilly trash. look at the stuff they are on the phones at a jail talking about. They know those conversations are being recorded. I know NG says they are secret recordings but she just spins it to up her ratings. there are signs all over the visiting room and in the booth warning ppl they are being recorded. The Croslin family wants everyone to believe they didnt know they were being recorded. Then they can say that Misty told everything else so she must not know what happened to Haleigh. They are con artists. You will never get them to crack unless Haleighs body is found. Then they may depending on the evidence and the location.
Misty knows they could never take her to trial without her confessing or a body being found. She knows the lie detectors and flip flopping on the time line of the night dont matter. as long as she stays quiet shes home free. You heard her say she would do 20 yrs but they would never be able to keep her forever. thats because she knows they will never locate that poor childs remains.

Art I have several questions for you about this case…If LP offered to give Misty’s parents a car, could he legally have electronics installed to record conversations or a tracker to view where they go at all times without them knowing the fact? Also, could this be done with the cell phones that he also given them? If LP plans to relocate them to CA would the family be able to do it legally due to their court/arrests/trial, etc? I appreciate all that you do and so thankful for your site. I am not a fan of NG, but all the sugar towards Ron, IMO is only a vice to rile up Misty enough, that she will spill the beans…Misty cant stand for any attention to be spent on anyone but herself.

I think the only reason “Miss Nancy’s” ratings stay up, is because people tune in to see if she is really the b–h that 99% of people say she is. Personally I think she is a disgrace to journalism. She doesn’t give anyone the chance to voice their opinion, if it is any different than hers.

I love Nancy Grace. Right now the point is to put all the pressure on Misty alone. Nancy is doing just that. I was upset at the remark she made that if an Angel came down and told her that Ron was involved in his daughters disappearance she would fight with the Angel about it. If an Angel told me that I would believe the Angel. That is like words from GODS lips to yours. Don’t question it! It has to be true.
Nancy Grace had Ronald Cummings on her show and a woman called in and asked about the cousin being there at his mh the night Haleigh disappeared. The camera was on Ronald as the call came in. Ronald was angered and stated clearly and stressed the fact that the cousin was not there that night. I thought immediately How could he be so sure! If he was at work ! He spoke with such certainity as if he knew for fact. The only way would be for him to have been there himself to see that the cousin was not there.
I wish Nancy would come down hard on Ronald for the drug case just like she does on everyone else. He has not acted like a grieving father. Why would a grieving father go 3 hours away with misty and get a tattoo of Haleigh on his leg and his mother Teresa Neves tell the media reporter he was with the pastor all day and was not doing well. Then he and Misty get caught by the media coming out of the tattoo parlor and he is angry that he can’t do anything or go anywhere without the media in his face. Meanwhile back in Satsuma they are searching for his precious daughter. Why was he not there waiting for any kind of news about Haleigh? Did he already know there would be none? The Pastor never commented for him again. The Pastor would not even marry him and Misty, because they did not agree to their union.
There was a media clip on the 10th or 11th of February where Ronalds phone rings. He does not look to see who it is calling and just ends the call. What if that would of been about Haleigh? Then you have his bizarre behavior with the donation jars, going out to restaraunts and wanting their food for free. Do you know who I am ? It is like he had no grave concerns about Haleigh. I cannot say he is 100% guilty, but he is definitely 100% suspicious to me as being a suspect!!
I do not believe this story that Chelsea has given. I wonder if LE is looking at her husband Timmy for some answers and she needs to divert them in another direction?
You know al;ot of people say Tommy may of unlocked that back door when he was there earlier. I wonder if LE got a print off the lock from the last person to lock/unlock that door? If it was a readable print then there was probably no gloves used.

It seems like there is so much confusion with the “adults” in this family that I don’t think we will ever get to the bottom of where little Haleigh is. It’s a shame and maybe it’s best we don’t know what she endured her last momements of life. I believe the little girls is deceased from an RX overdose given by Misty to put Haleigh to sleep because of her drug bingen and I think Ronald knew about it as well. Then she passed. She had her brother come over and help despose of the body. Rondald got all the informaiton when he got home. It was all business it was something they had to do to cover their butts and he is just as guilty. Why else would you hang out with someone that has information about your daughter but won’t give it up. I wouln’t be kickin’ some butt everyday if I was him but he’s been nice to her and I am sure they are caring on a romantic relationship before the arrest. They both know. I don’t know think we will ever know.

I find her show to usually be the most interesting show to watch ( but sometimes watch later if a good bball game is on). I’ve seen NG be hard on a guest but when they had a personal crisis she was right there wishing them the best. She has you on often Art, that tells me she has a ton of respect for you and what you do. She’s just one of those people who in their own way compliment you by inviting you back on the show from what i can tell as a viewer. If i were a guest i would dread the words “second verse same as the first” lol. That’s usually reserved for defense attorney’s.

I don’t believe Cuz Joe is involved..Misty would have ratted him out long before now..I think her Dad knows what happened..His interviews with her in jail are more guarded than they fact he is being recorded..He asks her about Haleigh, then interrupts Misty before she can talk further..He should be interviewed by LE again. IMO Maybe Padilla can get info out of him, if he keeps helping them financially..Padilla isn’t doing this totally out of the goodness of his heart..When he realizes there’s nothing in it for him he will be gone…IMO

Re-entered this into a more appropriate spot for my post. Personally, after reading most of these posts, I think her brother is the culprit. He puts himself at the scene. Knows Misty is unconscious. Just because he “says” no one was home doesn’t make it so. He would obviously know the operation of the doors and HOW to keep them quite. Would probably be able to get Haleigh out without making any noise. He could have told her he was taking her to her Dad. Even at 5 years old Haleigh would be aware of the discord and behavior of Ronald and Misty. She would make sense in her little mind that she was being taken elsewhere to protect her. How similar looking are her cousin and her brother? She may very well know it was her brother and substituted the disliked cousin in her version of the “dream”. It wasn’t any “dream”, not when she states that the door was propped open in the dream. She was actually seeing the door propped open. How much does anyone know about her brother. Has anyone interviewed people to investigate his comments or behavior around children? Anyone check his home/computer for child porn? Anyone interview relatives for inappropriate behavior toward them?

Didn’t Misty say that she thought she had seen 2 or 3 shadowy men in the home the night Haleigh went missing? She didn’t say this to LE that night, it just seemed to come to her later. I think that story is major BS. And I don’t believe for a minute that Cus Joe was there that night, this is just more BS that Misty and her family are peddling to draw attention away from Misty.
I think the only people Misty saw in the home that night was Haleigh, Jr, and herself.
And I think the reason she’s not saying anything to LE about Haleigh is she’s the one who killed the child. That would be a damn good reason to keep her mouth shut.

What would make this case so very sad to LE. I read a quote that it is “the events that led up to this” that makes this case so very tragic. What to law enforcement would be so very tragic? Events leading up to this….
I see Hank Sr and the entire Croslin family just doing their best to point at everyone and anyone besides their core family. Misty would roll on Ron in a heartbeat. Her family would have already. Not that it is not Ron’s fault for leaving her with Misty. Misty did say Haleigh was always wanting to do what Misty did and buy what Misty wore. But I still am not sure it would be that tragic to LE if Haleigh took a pill and died. Maybe if they drugged her to sleep because the school was putting pressure on them and he would have to go to court about her not being at school on time….maybe that would be tragic to them, these are folks that see an awful lot. But if Haleigh really loved Misty and Misty killed her, with some plans to do so. That would indeed be most tragic of all.

So far Misty has insisted she was at the trailer, and Hank Jr., has said he went to the trailer the night Haleigh went missing. Ronald is the fastest to say he was at work and can confirm it. Cummings and Croslin are the quickest to point blame on cousin Joe. So the wheel in searching for Haleigh keeps coming back to these 4 people. Isn’t that the number of people Misty said during one of her testing that were in the trailer?

So you might as well ‘squirrel’ it all ‘tway and/but not forget those ‘nuts.’
So the ‘talented’ banker, execu-trieve lawyer ‘politician’ withholding all truthes shall exclaim all their pain someday.
What burden had they to ‘learn’ no more than ‘earn’ a piece of paper that document of degree….to for them to play math so well and pave their way to stardust…just to pass another day to eat get their hips replaced or their hearts surged on and/or a new kidney or what ever ‘part’ they wore out and might as well give them ‘the credit’ they so rite by degree did empower them to receive some face lift or another cent in their ‘insured’ replacement for keeping track of…

To know that ‘those prisons’ are just new parents and to so many that work in those places, and have families of their very own to keep them…

I am a fan of Nancy Grace but she does take liberty with some of her guests, Art being one.
I am also a little tired of her giving any comfort to Ron and her kind words at times for Cindy and George Anthony. They are not “nice people” simply because they lost a grandchild. Both Anthony’s have changed their stories surrounding the disappearance and subsequent discover of little Caylee by trying to place blame on innocent people just to spare Casey who is the real murderer.
Sympathize to a point, but let’s not forget or get carried away that the grandparents have lied repeatedly concerning Casey and have gone out of their way to obscure the facts. That is an impediment to justice and does nothing for Caylee’s memory yet she continues to cut them slack.
As for Ron, he is a drug dealer, an abuser, a man who pursues vulnerable young girls, and Nancy still maintains her undying support.
Ron, Cindy, and George may be victims due to the actions of others but they are not nice people. The sympathy should be on Haleigh and Caylee who were the most innocent of all.

This family is confusing! Isn’t Kristy Joe’s ex-girlfriend in Tenn? Did she also have a child with Ronald? Has she been questioned? Not that it’s relevant, but the circle is widening, and I am curious if she was with Joe at the time of Haleigh’s missing, or if they had broken up at that time..If Joe is suddenly of interest, she may know something, and may need requestioning again, if she hasn’t been already..IMO

Ronald99 and Art, What about the septic tank or the garbage container? Dogs hit on the garbage? Why did LE have to search it in the dark with artificial lighting? What about Misty and Jr. being in RC’s car at RC’s work since the bed was made and no laundry having been done as Misty said? What about Misty’s telephone being turned off? RC said he called ?? times while knowing there was not going to be an answer? Was Misty and Jr. with him (in the vehicle) after the possible fatal blow to Haleigh and throwing her body away? Were the phone calls an alibi for RC? Why would he call Tommy instead of mommy or granny? Another alibi? Stopped to get cigs and beer while Misty and Jr. waited in truck/car? They put together their story and used it when they got home? RC mad at Misty because she couldn’t tell her side of the story straight? Guilty? RC set up the scene while Misty called 911? RC really mad when MC started asking questions pertaining to Haleigh while he was busy with the scene? Guilty? Remains to be seen. So many unanswered questions as to what happened to Haleigh Bug. Wish she could be home. Home in Heaven is where we believe she is! We love you Haleigh.

Art, THANKYOU for all you do…. You stand up well to people like Mrs Obvious… If he is who you think he is, he needs to be put back in prison… I have not seen a one of them cured, Have you???? About RON!!!!! WHAT IF???? If Haleigh accidently got ahold of Ron’s drugs, Misty calls him and asks him what to do…. He has her get rid of Haleigh and tells Misty she is now involved, and is going down with him…. What I’m trying to ask,,,, is there any way ( if this did happen ) could Misty be let go for a bargin deal? She was a child and Ron has a history of using these children for his own sexual perposes… It makes me sick to think of what he would have been like with Haleigh through her teenage years…. Art, can they still charge Ron for being with Misty underaged??? Art, Thanyou for all you do!

Misty is clearly shy and unsophisticated, her entire family is shy and unsophisticated. they have been pushed out of the job and educational market by affirmative action and other evil forces in our society. she had no other way to feed herself other than sell drugs.

Seeing them interact on tape is a real eye opener. Thanks for keeping us in the loop, Art. You deserve a medal. The Police are doing a fantastic job in my opinion. I think there will be lots of surprises around the corner here, very soon. Hopefully they will find her before Easter. Thats when they found Lacy Peterson. However I am still holding onto a shred of hope that she is alive and well. You know the saying, hope springs eternal. Hats off to your posters too. Well you can’t really blame Misty for the situation she’s in. You could blame her parents on the “you reap what you sow” model, but then again they aren’t to blame either ( for Misty’s predicament). It’s partly the lifestyle that has been bred out of generations. People do what they have to do to get by, we all KNOW that education is the ticket out of poverty. Unfortunately a person has to be motivated. It’s the status quo in so many poor families to churn out unmotivated people who make poor choices. What the hell did Misty know about keeping her pants on as a young girl. What the hell did she know about staying away from drugs? What did she know about caring for children? Who taught her responsibility? Who taught her about consequences? Who taught her values? Morality? I’ll tell ya who didn’t. Society, that’s who, we let her down. Her parents weren’t taught, so how could they teach her? Drugs, booze and Rock & Roll. Lest we forget money. Thats what drives the good ole USA. People don’t matter, and as long as people (society) doesn’t matter……well look for lot’s more Misty’s and missing children. Murdered spouses and drug problems. We have an entire generation, yes even the wealthier ones, being raised with no consequences, no values, and very little morality. They are left to their own devices. Hello……they are minors till 18 for a reason. They are not equipped to make logical choices. As long as the money machine is churning at the expense of the family, all is right in America as far as our politicians are concerned. Put the Mom’s back at home raising the kids, or someone who has a vested interest. I was fortunate to be a stay-at-home Mom. I was able to WATCH over them, teach them right from wrong, instill values, and impress morality. I want that for ALL children. There sure wasn’t a “Misty” twice a week being reported 30-40 years ago when Mom’s were still at home. No mother can adequately take care of/nuture a family who has to work outside of the home. It’s too much for anyone. Profit margins are so much more important than one paycheck making ends meet. There ya go Art. Spin and dip.

And just as a footnote: Had Cindy Anthony been at home monitoring her daughter’s upbringing; that manipulative little wench of a Casey would not have been able cultivate her craft of pathological liar. Things were overlooked out of “making up” for lost time. Maybe just plain missed out of weariness. Casey was a spoiled brat who refused to have it any other way than her own…. NO MATTER WHAT, as we all see. Discipline serves a purpose, it could have saved little Caylee’s life, if Casey had been shown there is more than just “me”. I blame that one on society also.

Need your expertise on something.I watched an old interview with Misty a week ago on NG, i noticed Misty went into great detail about the blankets. Do you know if LE asked her why and when they took a blanket from the home? Part of her explanation for having to take a blanket off the window and wash it was that they had taken her blanket in a vehicle ( which vehicle?). She did a whole lot of explaining, it was like she was trying to explain why a blanket was missing when nobody knew a blanket was missing. Her insinuation i believe was the window was uncovered due to having to take the blanket off from it, possibly someone looked in it that night. Did LE ask the Grandma’s or Crystal if Haleigh still wet the bed on occassion? If by chance the answer was no, then Misty’s story sounds pretty far fetched. Just an observation on my part, could mean nothing, but wondering if after all her explaining, was there a missing blanket or was one found in a vehicle as she said?

Who is to blame for Misty’s situation? What situation? That she dropped out of school in middle school? That she was practically living on the streets before she met her white knight? HER PARENTS. Period. She’s not qualified to work as a parttime checkout person at Walmart. And what’s more, she doesn’t give a damn. Her parents barely got by, so that lifestyle is all she knows and it’s ok for her.

She should have taken the blunt out of her mouth long enough to finish school, and the beer bottle. I saw the pics on her myspace page before it went private.

Who’s to blame for Misty ‘s situation?
Lisa and Hank Croslin. Her biological parents. They are self-centered and totally self-absorbed in their drug addictions. They are lazy and shiftless leeches who feed off of society and the underworld of drugs.
Misty or her brothers never had a chance. Misty grew up too fast and did as she pleased. It takes determination and love to raise children, a commitment to their well being and education. The Croslin’s did not put the welfare of their children ahead of their own selfish needs. And don’t hand me that story about the Croslins being under privileged and falling through the cracks in the system. They know perfectly well how to play the system. They failed to nuture Misty and her brothers. Both Lisa and Hank are sorry excuses for parents. Sadly, Misty will pay the price for their lack of responsibility and commitment to Misty when she was born.
And sadder still, little Haleigh was with the wrong people all her life, brief and tragic as it is.
If I could make one comment to Misty’s parents. It would be this: “Hang your heads in shame, you failed as parents and decent human beings.”

Art; I think alot of your bloggers are confused about the facts of this case,I know I am.On Feb.9,2009 Haliegh went missing,right.Was Misty binging 3 days before that or 3 days after? Was she tweaking on the 9th and showed up at the trailer when Ronald got off work or was she there(at the trailer)during the daytime on the 9th. Like I always say if she wasn’t there then why did Ronald think she would be and call home 90 times. Was the phone a land line or a cell phone? Does Misty have a drivers license and did she at the time Haliegh went missing? If LE knew of her history of partying and selling drugs why wouldn’t they cite her for driving without a license and possession and where was little Jr. during the day of the 9th.Did she have a key to the trailer when Haliegh went missing, the back door was propped OPEN so someone could get in (Cousin Joe).

Art, I have a black friend I work with and she has dreams about things that really are psychic, she had a dream that a neighbor of Rons had the hots for Misty and that he intended to kidnap Misty but she had left and he got Haleigh by mistake! Question: who was Misty supposed to be PG by when on balled her up & threw her out& Who was the Neighbor who was supposed to be a witness of Ron almost running over kids at the bus stop& giving the interview on the vidio. the one who said his Dad worked for Child services. I wondered at the time why he was talking to a reporter and it still bugs me! Just an Idea, and Misty saying why didn’t he take me instead, maybe she thinks it was a case of mistaken victim, sounds crazy but I’m beginning to wonder if everyone is looking in the wrong direction& she sure didn’t just vanish. Art I know this theory sounds kinda crazy but things like this are usually beyond the understanding of a rational persons mind, maybe they do need a new Focus! I meant Ron balling her up, I left out the R. Some of the younger generation have very complex relationships. People our age don’t have a clue. They have sex and drugs like we drink coffee or change our soxs, or rather twice or three times as often. Art~At no time did I represent anything as a solid fact, but rather as something that I had HEARD, which in turn helped form my initial opinion of Joe. I am going to paraphrase some of those comments, their origins,and dates where available.
At Mahalo.com,”FOX and ABC reported that police are questioning Misty Croslin’s cousin, Joe Overstreet. Haleigh’s mother was told he was a “sexual pedophile.” Also, according to CBS, Cumming’s grandmother said he had molested Croslin as a child.” Croslin called him a “criminal and said they don’t trust him.”

The point is, if you google “What has Misty Croslin said about Joe Overstreet?” you will find many articles wherein assorted members from BOTH families mention Joe in this vein. It may not be accurate but it explains why I thought what I originally thought.
I know you wrote an article about my comment the day after I posted it (vis a vis Ronald hurting Misty when he thought that she was pregnant by another man), so I thought we were on the same wavelength. Fla.Neighbor rarely comments (that was the only comment I saw from him/her) so I am going to assume this was a new or uninformed reader, unfamiliar with the long time, regular posters.
Again, your fans (of course, I am one) offer many theories about what might have happened, and all opinions are just that, opinions. I may have thought Joe had something to do with it originally, but then I explain why ultimately, it doesn’t make sense. However, there is still plenty of perversion in this case and none of it originated with me.

Long overdue apology, if I came down too hard. Some of the sites you cite above do not have the same fact standards as we and others do in the mainstream media, and have been airing rumors about Joe O when he doesn’t have any sex offenses on his adult record. Whoever the other Overstreet is, it’s not him, so we are not going to participate in shoddy reporting and repeating others shoddy reporting, like the shallow sourcing at BNN, where they don’t know any better than to post illegally recorded audio tapes that violate Fla. two party statutes, a felony, much less begging lawsuits from parties who didn’t know they were being recorded.
Just an example…we also know Misty’s family has talked about her alleged victimization by others in the family, and mainstream media generally do not name sexual abuse victims, much less underage abuse victims…since she has mentioned it publically, that’s perhaps an exception, but even before that, it was being reported by the less factually demanding sites who don’t think twice about using unverified trash.
Even the Croslins, like Chelsea, raising Joe hightailing it, is not altogether accurate: I’ve interviewed LE long ago about his visit, and they are satisfied and had cleared him of clearing out as a result of Haleigh when they verified he had plans to leave earlier and didn’t go until he had hung up haleigh posters…so it’s not as many keep repeating who don’t read our sourced reports or don’t care and believe what they want to believe and just pass it on.

Art~I just finished watching the new video’s that came out on Nancy Grace. I noticed Hank (her dad) saying things to her that seemed like he was trying to get her to say something, but these new videos show several different clips of him saying, “we need to find Haleigh”, or “the truth needs to come out”. It is obvious to me that he believes himself Misty knows something. In a way, I wonder if he hasn’t been told something by her or in a round a bout way and he’s just trying to take that “Fatherly Oath” to keep his mouth shut BUT in the meantime he’s trying to make her understand it needs to just be told. There’s something fishy with all that. I believe he knows that she knows something. Whats your take on all this?

good lawd! didn’t you all know…affirmative action affects middle-school aged children who drop out of school! and outside evil forces cause parents to send their child off to live with their grandmother (possible because of their own drug/alcohol addictions). OF COURSE! it’s not their own fault…some posters just need not be entertained imo
anyway, some people are unfortunately just born into this world “evil” (yes, the term will probably incite atheists and such, but it’s just a generic term i will use for those with no consciences). just like that Elizabeth gal (baby Gabriel). some people are just not good. it could be her circumstances (drug addiction, etc). but it seems more and more that Misty just may very well be a self-absorbed little girl playing her hand at a big-girl life. it’s been implied that she actively pursued Ronald when he was with his other baby’s momma. it could totally be the drugs. i think she’s manipulative. i think she thinks of herself only. that’s obvious. people are not really themselves on drugs. but, it could be just her?

I’ve heard her Dad say those things, too, and it reinforces what he’s told me over the last few months, that he doesn’t believe she had anything to do with Haleigh’s vanishing… but if she or any of his kids know anything, he wants them to tell it, confess it, bring Haleigh home or help find the body, and then deal with their aftermath on life’s terms. Of course, he has doubts…Misty has lied to him so much over the years, he wants to believe, but at some point, you just can’t anymore. You love your child, but they killed that trust long ago, and rebuilding doesn’t happen overnight….then there’s Tommy who keeps saying she keeps lying about him, pointing to the B and E…but what else cn he say? He’s done THAT before, too. So lying with a straight face, tears and righteous indignation goes a long way to make outsiders believe they’re being sincere..Heck, I WANTED to believe Misty after I interviewed her almost a year ago on camera, seemingly so sweet and tragic, outside the Satsuma convenience store, benefit of the doubt and all that…but the dynamic has changed, making us all doubt…Those close to the case have heard her deny certain things with tears they know to be false…Now we hear her talking about another polygraph…But she needs a good night’s sleep to take it. Everyone has been looked at…and you recall he tried to rescue Misty from Ronald’s and got into a fight with him…someone knows something in that family and it’s a matter of who will drop the soap first…Misty? Tommy? Remember he coughed up the trailer drop by after he was in the slam with a high bond…wonder what he may have to offer if it looks like he’s facing more than the three years he’s told Lindsay he’s prepared to do and her vow she’ll be waiting…but if suddenly he learns he’s facing much longer and freaks the woman he loves, who has put up with more than most wives ever dream of enduring, has had enough, well, he may be willing to give it all up, to get out…that is, IF it’s someone else he can finger, like his sister…OR if he’s somewhat implicated, he might be ripped apart, knowing if he hangs in prison to keep quiet, his wife might decide to hang it up and move on. What a choice? As for Misty, she’s ready to do 20 years, she claims, be 38 when she comes out, but 114 years? The Satsuma crockpot has just begun to simmer. Art

Really sad thinking about Marie O’s (adopted) son? Those in-between years when we ‘leap’ from being a child into this land of adults ain’t easy…if only they knew how much more they should mean to others instead of themselves…and that transition of heart in knowing ‘all that.’

I know i have posted about guesses and speculations, but i just read public police reports from 08-present. It’s a much clearer picture when you see it in such detail. The fighting, the drugs, the weapons, the thefts, and then the worst thing imaginable, the disappearance of a beautiful child. Then there’s the jail tapes. Watching Tommy straight up lie about not doing the B&E Misty told LE about, even after his wife returned the items. That to me says you cannot believe one word that comes from his mouth. Any charges on him for those?(What reason or motive did Misty have for telling LE?).None of it explains exactly what happened to Haleigh, but it paints a clear picture of why those kids should never have been living in that environment. I now see why LE are so sure Misty knows more than she has told. I can only imagine what’s on the tapes LE have not released. I can’t tell if she is holding out to protect someone, more than one, or herself, or if she fears someone (or more than one). Here’s where i start to think “what if”…but this post is just sticking to the facts. I’ve learned a lot from doing the research, and the grass isn’t any greener in Tenn. from what i can tell either. One other fact that can’t be denied, Ronald Cummings looks ten years older than he did one year ago. The change in him is remarkable and not in a good way.

Greetings, Art! I want to compliment you on the way you conduct yourself, both on Nancy Grace and ‘Issues With Jane Velez Mitchell’. You seem like both a reporter and a gentleman and I am guessing that helping to solve the case of the missing Haleigh is close to your heart.
I enjoy reading your readers’ blogs as well as going back through your archives. I have followed this baffling story from the night it first aired on Nancy Grace. I never believed Misty’s account of what transpired on February 10th, 2009 — it was not only thoroughly illogical, but ever-changing — yet I felt sorry for her, a teenager the same age as my son who had somehow lost her way. My opinion of Misty has thoroughly changed, however, since watching the jailhouse tapes as well as the footage of her in the undercover police car orchestrating drug transactions. I feel fortunate to actually observe her in her element and this really sheds light on the way drugs and a seedy lifestyle played into this little girl’s tragedy.
My heart aches for Haleigh; I pray for her safe homecoming and that justice will be done. When you have a chance, do you suppose you could provide a bit of background on Ronald and Misty’s childhoods? I am kind of touched by the strange ‘intactness’ of Misty’s family and wonder what is their story. Her Dad seems to have a conscience regarding Haleigh and her Mom sounds gentle and loving. I always admired Teresa Neves’ devotion to Ronald and Haleigh as well.

Art, I look forward to you on NG. You have the best insights. Did you notice the following?:
1)The list of what Tommy steals from trailers. It tells us he knows how to break in. It lists detergents and soaps. The problem with Misty’s story? Missing detergent. Misty recognizes Tommy’s “calling card”. She tells the truth about that night except what is missing. She also can’t say “Hey officer, my big bag of illegal drugs is gone and so are Ron’s unregistered guns”. Ron can’t say that either but that is how he knows it isn’t Misty. Cops didn’t find any drugs in the trailer which is like not finding coffee at Starbucks. Misty tells the truth but flunks the poly because she instinctively knows it’s Tommy…
2)To believe Tommy’s silly story you would have to believe that all THREE of them slept through the banging on the door, not just Misty. Neither child woke Misty up to tell her someone was at the door….and, by the way, neither child ever screamed.
3)Look at the brick. It’s an OUTSIDE object. The dirty clothes propping open the inner door are INSIDE objects. Thus the person had to find an object outside and enter the trailer before they had access to inside objects. Misty lived there. She didn’t have to wander around outside in the dark to find something. She could use INSIDE objects for both doors. But…she didn’t need the silence that propped doors indicate. She could have simply closed the bedroom door, if anything…
So…Look at how Tommy panics on the jail tapes when his father suggests that Misty will talk. He says “tell her not to make up stories about other people.” He is already running defense before the ball is thrown. I think LP is working with LE to ensure that these people are available for more jail house confessionals. Those tapes are a gold mine for the prosecution.

Bottom Line…………….Haleigh went missing on Misty’s time………That makes her responsible. When I babysat, if something happened to the kids or even my Grandchildren today, If I am watching them, it is my responsibility to make certain they are okay, be it for any reason bad could happen. So Misty it was your reponsibility to care for Haleigh and Junior. So now how are you going to explain this one off??????

Art~You’re right. And another way to prove how dishonest she is and how good she is at maintaining that straight face with the tears-On the last tapes, she spoke with her mom first. Her mom had explained to her how Leonard P. had put money (100.00) on her account. She whined about how Timmy was supposed to and so was her dad. Well after she spoke with her mom, her dad came in. When her dad spoke to her AFTER her mom did, Misty complained about being hungry and he asked about her ordering off comisary. She mentioned in detail about having 60.00 either left or thats how much she spent…can’t remember, BUT then her dad said “There’s 100.00 in your account now, did you know that” and she said, “no”. Hmmm. I remember she spoke to her mom first because they were talking until there were only a few minutes left to share with her dad. Plus she had the same “new hairdo”. They had the same clothes on also. So that shows how she was more than likely trying to manipulate more money out of them or make her dad feel bad for not putting money in himself like she was whining about 10 or 15 minutes before. Did you notice her telling him that as well? No big deal really, but to me it shows how easy it is for her to blurt out BS. And one more thing I noticed. When her dad asks about God bringing Haleigh home and if she believes that Haliegh will come home she says “of course” but watch her shake her head no??? Isn’t that another sign of deception, just like with Casey Anthony. She did the same thing! Whatcha think????

I have said from first week that Tommy took Haleigh from her home that night and sold or swapped her to a sex-predator for drugs.
But I also believe that this sex-predator was paying parents in the area (that is on drugs) to take pictures of their kids.

Misty Croslin knows what happened to that little girl. She was directly or indirectly involved, no doubt.
One thing has always bothered me about this case. Watching Misty Croslin..interviews and media coverage..the girl just doesn’t seem to be intelligent enough to pull this crime off alone.
This child has disappeared without a trace. I just see no way that Mist Croslin is smart enough to make the child disappear (alive or dead) without leaving evidence behind. She had to have help.
She is a devious woman but devious and intelligent are two different things. Surely I am not the only one that believes someone helped her either to commit the crime or cover it up.

IMO Only two people know what happened to Haleigh (more if they chose to tell them ie: parents)..All the other people now dragged into the picture are in to take the pressure off the perps.. If Misty truly doesn’t know, it’s possible she wasn’t home when Ron picked Haleigh up at the bus stop that afternoon, but returned before he got off work. If Ron did this alone, Misty may not know what happened to her.It’s hard to believe she doesn’t know, but it’s also hard to think she wouldn’t crack in jail..She doesn’t mind ratting on those close to her.. If Ron is guilty there is a reason she isn’t talking..I can’t figure out what it is..I don’t think it’s love. It’s something else..She knows she is facing years in prison.. I hope people of importance in the case are offering her long term protection if she talks.. I think she will talk, but right now she is afraid…The truth has a way of coming to light..We will know, but it may take a few years, unless Misty talks soon..IMO

I had read very early on that cousin Joe was at the house earlier in the day and I believe other people were visiting as well,for what it’s worth I don’t believe he had anything to do with the disapperance of Healigh, and I still believe that Misty is telling the truth when she says “I don’t know anything else”, simply because she was either passed out or not home and I wish she would come clean regarding those aspects.

Deb #83; I have not read past this statement of your’s because I think it is incredibly important to respond to:
“Put the Mom’s back at home raising the kids”
To me this says it all! I might substitute “parent” for “Mom” just so long as it is one of the primary caregivers. Our society has made it all but impossible for the average family to afford to have one parent stay home. IMHO it is obvious what the impact of that has been on our society as a whole.
I doubt there is any way to reverse the situation unless we as a society get serious and elect politicians who are willing to work for that reversal. Parenting is the most important job in our society and parents need all the support it takes. We would go a long way to correcting our woes in a single generation if we would only work toward that goal. To refocus our parenting to teach good old fashion morals, responsibility and education is what it would take along with some real self sacrifice in the interests of our children’s future.

Art, I did”t mean to imply ythat Jerry had anythingg to do with Haleigh”s disapearance! I only meant nI wanted to see the bus stop video again and couldn”t find it. I guess I ran two separite ideas too close together. He sounded really concerned and one of the few neighbors who stuck his neck out to try and help. I just know there are are several pedofiles in the area and wondered if the area was checked. I just don”t think it was a stranger abduction and I think Misty will never break. She is not the sweet inocent CHILE she prentends to be. Didn”T mean to ruffle your feathers! I can see you protect your resources!!! Just getting frustrated like everyone else. great response about wanting to believe Misty. I have conducted interviews with the most pathetic, sad, crying eyes around; including the eyes of a cold blooded killer who had hollywood looks and the softest voice of any female you could meet.
This is what makes statement analysis so vital. only the SUBJECT’s words, not what I think I heard, or what I felt. It is a great reason why many investigators email (redacted versions) statements to other investigators for analysis; removing all emotional connection. Even when I did the short work on Misty’s 911 call, Statement Analysis is done WITHOUT listening to panic in the voice, pleading, crying, or anything else. The words ALONE.
It is like Susan Smith crying in the camera. People love to say after the fact that they knew she was lying. Not so. Experienced law enforcement were out looking for her kids. It was only when S/A of her TV interview (TV interviews ARE perfect for Statement Analysis because there is no preparing a statement) when she spoke of her kids in the past tense did the FBI call local LE and told them “you’ve got the killer; she’s on TV now!” and they stopped their search.
The order of which we speak is important. Missing children’s parents or caretakers who call 911 (and these stats are all kept for study) report what is most important to them first:
missing child!
Itis what burns in their heart and it is the FIRST thing they say in a panic or “excited utterance”.
What was THE first thing Misty said?
“I was sleeping.”
What was the 2nd most important thing she wanted the police to know AFTER she was sleeping?
“the door wss opened”
Lasty, that Haliegh was gone.
Balloon Boy’s mom’s 911 call was phoney but on the talk shows, at first, they all believed her because her voice sounded panicy. If someone cries, I feel for them and even though I grew up with SEVEN sisters, and have conducted more than 1700 interviews, I CANNOT tell a fake cry from a real one! But her WORDS told us she was being deceptive.
Art, I hope you consider my .02 to write a book about this case in regards to the underculture that exists there, and in many parts of the country. It would be a fascinating read and no one appears to have the inside angle that you have. The same for Kathi Belich and the Casey Anthony case. The similarities are two reporters who have been closely involved in two child murder cases (1 unproven) with both having bizzarro families attached!

It was very generous of you to give NG praise like you did. She doesn’t deserve it. JMO She may be #1 in the ratings because of the specific story she is carrying has interest from the viewers. I for one, HATE her show.But why do I watch?? Because I believe the credibility YOU bring to her show. I guess one could say I watch NG for AH!!

Art, I went back on the NG transcripts… Paul Penzone (Director of Prevention Programs – childhelp.org.) says: Well you know, criminals never cry b/c of what they did. Misty is not crying for Haleigh, and she’s not crying for her crimes…She is crying b/c she feels sorry for herself.. But the most telling thing for me was two things Ron said…First, he said he’s not worried about doing the time b/c he only expects to do about four months (4 mo,s.). Which means he settled for crimes that he has been arrested for… But what he tells is: Don’t say anything b/c they both know where Haleigh is, or what happened to Haleigh, and he is fearful for charges he could face… So both have facts that are going to make the difference, and he is telling her don’t come forward with it… And my concern is, kind of a tipping point, how much time will Misty do before she becomes comfortable??? Will LE get the info. while she is still uneasy and having those drug issues??? ART, Nancy Grace does not say anything about Paul Penzone’s questions & opinions except, GOOD POINT! I am looking forward to your next article/story, i hope it explains the argument between Ronald and Joe. I don’t recall hearing any details back then and have not seen anyone post any info here. If it was public way back when, apparently not that many of us heard about it. All i heard was (on the news, CNN i’m sure, in the first few days of Haleigh missing) that Ron and Joe had been fighting and Joe had left to go home to Tenn. the morning after Haleigh vanished. Also that a gun was found in a ditch and it was proven to belong to one of them. Misty had said some very bad things about Joe and insinuated he was involved with Haleigh’s disappearance, but i don’t remember any details of what the fight was about or if any were given. I know you are a busy person Art, but could you please write a quick article about the reason for the fight between Ronald and Joe? Thanks!

I don’t want to believe much any of the Croslins have to say. However, I hear some sincerity in her daddy’s voice during the jail house talks. He has said more than once that he has warned her to stay away from the drugs. I think he knows that his little girl is guilty of something. Her parents are treating her like a six year old. I think they truly love her; Just don’t know the right way to show it.

GLORIA, did you perchance go by the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office headquarters in Palatka? That is where the main investigative action is, not in Satsuma. The PCSO HQ even has a whole room that is dedicated to the Haleigh case. [It was all over the MSM sites around the 1 year anniversary.]
JAN57, yes, I have considered a similar scenario and it’s the only one that works for me. I think it was more likely a strong narcotic. Misty wouldn’t hesitate to take any pill Ronald handed her. I think that is the only reason they reconciled – to set her up to take the fall for Ronald or his mother or someone else in their family. Nothing else fits.
ART, I hope you are working a background story on the SNAKE GUY. I think that will be a most interesting story to hear and I thank you in advance.

I think NG does a fine job because in the end it’s all about keeping these cases in the public awareness. It gives the families hope that if it’s kept on the news it will eventually bring answers and/or locate their loved ones.It also keeps pressure on people who can give answers but won’t. I like her just the way she is, i hope she doesn’t change any part of the way she runs her show. I appreciate Nancy very much and i think her guests do too. IMO.. NG is very good at what she does and i look forward to watching her show every night.

Misty won’t get 114 years let alone actually serve any where near that. When change is the topic at hand it is all a matter of time. Florida has a backwards system, jailing non violent drug offenders for years upon years yet jailing child kidnappers for mere few years and often letting repeat offenders of child sex crimes out only to wear a bracelet. There is a lot of debate and talk about it all over North America, I don’t see change with the Attorney General that is in simply because he takes the time to address Health Care and sue over it when for years people have been begging him to stop the killing of the children by repeat offenders that are allowed out, and in no way does he even seize the moment on International TV to address it let alone challenge and change the laws. IMHO he is about Politics and not People, he is about milking his career. Change with him is not likely to happen but it will with another and Florida will figure out the laws as they are are non productive and the laws as they are at present are one of the contributing factors that place the children of Florida at high risk of sex offenders.

I have a question about cousin Joe. They said he was at Misty’s and Ron’s earlier that day. I heard he stayed with Timmy and his wife that night. Chelsea said the van was moved and he slept in his clothes that night. My question is were Timmy and Chelsea living in Fl. when this happened? I know they live in Mass. now. How far away were they from Ronald and Misty’s house? Also was the van Timmy’s or Joe’s? I was wondering if maybe he borrowed their van and if so was it searched? I know they searched the vehicle Joe had, but is it the same one Chelsea is talking about? If anyone knows please update me. Thanks

For those who keep saying Misty’s dad seems to be the one who cares and told her to stay away from the drugs and trouble, well Misty doesn’t have great role models for parents. Misty’s dad was the one who went doctor shopping to obtain multiple scripts of pain killers. The very thing that Misty was dealing. It would not suprise me if he ever gave her some of his pills. I think he could have just as easily allowed her to sell some for him since they always seemed to be in a bad financial situation. Why else would she tell her dad about the under cover she was dealing with? He had asked her are you sure he’s not setting you up? and Misty told her dad no and that she trusted him. They spoke about this before she got caught. If you listen to the undercover tape you hear Misty tell him that her dad was worried he was going to set her up. It’s possible that her dad was okay with her dealing as long as it was with people they knew. Anyway I just think it’s possible her dad could have been involved or gained from Misty’s deals.

I just finished watching Nancy G., and I see Misty turned down the offer w/ Padilla. I think she is thinking she will end up with a drug rehab and be on probation… Also I think she is protecting Ron, and figures she has all the answers and it will all go away…. People need to stop the money flow and throw her in population to show her how big of a star she really is…. I do not mean to be so harsh, but I think of Haleigh being out there and no one to help her come home…. You can’t tell me that her and Ron don’t know anything. I think that the police need to take a different approach with Misty. A woman psychologist or psychiatrist could maybe shed some light on getting information from her. Her maturity and judgement have to be impaired because of drug use and the lack of a positive role model. I would guess that she
has the judgement of maybe a 10 year old. Does a 10 year old plan and think through before “she” does something? There is no risk analysis. Whoever took
Haleigh was capable of successfully planning her disappearance.

Art, I really don’t know why so many people criticize Nancy Grace to me she does a wonderful job of seeing that missing children and victomized women are brought to the public eye and if they don’t like her techniques they don’t have to watch! I believe you can hold your own with anyone and someone has to be bold and not be afraid to speak up! It has in my opinion got to the point that in the USA criminals and child molesters make every woman and child at risk to enjoy the freedoms we once had. Look at Ron’s criminal record. I cannot believe that he has not been prosecuted for all of those other arrests. He has many drug arrests & a few domestic arrests. Why are the charges dropped on all of those arrests? That does not make sense… He obviously has a drug and anger problem. Just because his mother is a dispatcher for the Sheriff’s Office should NOT make a difference.
The D.A.’s office should have been involved with these families a long time ago and most of these people should
have been in jail a long time ago. Maybe if they were, then maybe Haliegh would not be missing. Why wasn’t Children’s Services involved? Those 2 kids should never had been in that home with the father and his underage girlfriend.
When they are showing Misty & Ron in the undercover cops car, they both appear that they have no worries at all. They don’t seem nervous at all. They appear that they know exactly what they are doing. If they are both so concerned about Haleigh, then why aren’t they out looking for her, instead of trafficking drugs? It looks like trafficking drugs is the family business… that & robbing people…
Ron even seems very arrogant when they are showing him in jail right now. Maybe he thinks that he won’t be charged
with anything, because he has never been prosecuted for anything so far, just look at his criminal record.
Why did Ronald go to work early that night? Has anyone asked and gotten an answer to that question? I don’t
remember if that question was ever answered. I recall that Misty called Ron at work that night and was complaining that Haliegh was acting up and he told Misty to spank her and then put her to bed. Also, I remember Misty said that she had to wash Haliegh’s blanker because she peed on it. At 5 years old, a child doesn’t just have an accident like that, unless something bad happened to them. Maybe either Ron or Misty spanked Haliegh and it went to fair and something bad happened. Maybe Misty helped Ron cover it up. Also, why did Ron make so many calls to Misty that night? He called her over 20 times. Now Misty is saying that 2 people are going to get hurt when she reveals what happened….
I hope that they find this little girl okay. It’s just so sad to hear these stories about little kids going missing. Enough!!!!

Having covered numerous major and minor criminal trials over the last couple of decades, I should probably write a book about that question, but television and 24-7 cable news have made it almost impossible to assume prospective jurors have virgin ears when voir dired in a headline case. They are bombarded with information and lurid details of crimes, and may indeed arrive with opiinons of built or innocence.
The question is can they put them aside…and that’s what defense lawyers ask when time to pick a jury…seeking jurors who can put aside whatever bias they may have, and shove away whatever they may concluded base on what they have heard or read, finding guilt or innocence based ONLY on what they hear in court. I have been shocked all three times I’ve been picked to sit on a jury, figuring they’d bounce a journalist with lots of true crime reporting experience. Once a defense lawyer asked me if I could be fair and set aside any bias I might have against accused criminals and be fair to his client, and I said I could… We found the man guilty of a DUI within 45 minutes based on a breathalizer and blood test, didn’t have a choice under the law as the judge explained it, even though we liked him, believed he’d learned his lesson and was a good husband and father.
Once chosen, a judge will instruct prospective jurors not to watch the news when stories on the case are featured or read the newspaper or internet…And we haven’t even touched on the CSI effect, where jurors often expect more forensic evidence than available and may hold that against the prosecution without realizing they sometimes unfairly raise the bar (wanting evidence FAR beyond reasonable doubt), based on a favorite TV shows’ forensic heroes who deliver all proof neatly wrapped in an hour. Big deal-he cried when the cameras were on, that does not mean he is not guilty. Who would take the time go to buy beer after not being able to get in touch with Misty to check on his children? You know Tommy called Ron when he went to check on them, why hasn’t Ron been questioned about this report?
Everyone knows that if someone disagrees with NG she will cut their mike, which she almost did to you.
You were just reporting facts as they evolve, but she spent 30 minutes talking about what Misty ate and ordered from the jail.
Keep up the good work and like Misty said ‘she is waiting on a message from God’ and she already knows the answer.

I remember someone saying Jr. was still sleepy and groggy while being carried out of the house when police cleared the scene. That would be totally abnormal. If she druged the kids and went out to someones house or to a dealers she may have not been seen and would explain no one home when people knocked. when she returned she may have found the girl dead. One thing I have wondered about is the fact Haleigh has Turners syndrom. I am not an expert but would she not need medical attention if she were still alive? MY guesss is she is deceased and I do feel Misty and Ron may know more than they are both saying.
I remember one morning I was watching one of the morning News shows and they were both guest. When asked why she was shown to be untruthful in her polligraph test she looked at Ron. That look was so strange. It was like she was asking permission to talk. He stared into her eyes and shook his head. She just shrugged her shoulders and said she did not know why she was inconsistant. Misty is not the sharpest pencil in the box. I don’t think she could keep herself from being found out if she did something to that child. She would slip up. Just my gut feeling, yes she knows something but she also thinks Ron is her soulmate. Just a funny feeling of not being able to put my finger on what she knows.
