As a member of the Putnam County Child Abduction Response Team, and a lead investigator trying to crack the Haleigh Cummings mystery, Peggy Cone found herself searching the hay farm in nearby Baker County last Friday, when more than three dozen law enforcement officers from the state police and several counties descended on two trailers the missing five year old’s mother, Crystal Sheffield, and her maternal grandmother, Marie Griffis, call home.
It was an invitation only affair, according to Captain Dominic Piscitello of the Putnam County Sheriff’s Department; the mother’s family had invited law enforcement to search the 40 acre property to help remove any suspicion Haleigh might be hidden there, or had been there since she was reported missing Feb. 10 from her father’s trailer in nearby Satsuma, Florida.

After digging up several animals the family said they’d buried there, walking the property and sending divers into a nearby lake, Piscatello announced they’d found no sign of Haleigh, and no evidence to suggest she was there after her father’s babysitter turned child bride, Misty Cummings, said she awoke at 3 a.m. to use the bathroom and found her gone.
But during the search, Putnam County Det. Peggy Cone did discover drug paraphernalia and a small amount of crack cocaine in a Ford truck on the property, and reported it to a local deputy. “She showed me where she discovered a Marlboro Lights Cigarette pack behind the seat of a 1991 white and green Ford truck parked on the Southeast end of the property, which contained two Crack pipes and a plastic container with Crack Cocaine residue inside,” wrote officer Jerald A. Peterson, from the local sheriff’s Charlie Squad 1.
“I noted,” the deputy’s report goes on to say, “the cigarette packs location and took possession of the pack.”
But at the time, the deputy struck out trying to track down the truck’s registered owner the report identified as Jesse. L. Watkins, a friend of the family.
Later, he denied any knowledge of the drugs or pipes, Major Gerald Gonzalez of the Baker County Sheriff’s Department, told The Bald Truth, as did any member of the Sheffield or the Griffis families. Kim Picazio, attorney for Crystal Sheffield, said her client and family were shocked at the discovery and vehemently denied any suggestion they condoned –or might be using –illegal drugs.
According to a Gonzalez, given the sketchy circumstances, it would be virtually impossible to make a meaningful drug case and he doubted it would be pursued.

Where was this Jesse L. Watkins at that day minus his truck?
Most people in the area that their vehicle is parked at ..
Was this Jesse L. Watkins present when Haleigh & Junior would come to Crystals & visit ? .. Who is he ? .. Besides being a friend of the family ..
Does this Jesse Watkins have ties to Putnam County ? ..
Where was he on the night of Feb. 9 2009 & early moring hours of Feb. 10 ? ..
Seems since they claim not to have any clue to this persons drug usage it stands to reason that they really don’t know him that well at all, .. Much less what he may be capable of , right ? ..
No one is cleared,.. “The entire world is a suspect.”
When are we going to see the list shortened a bit ?

Good article Art. Wow, I see no photo shop there. I dont know what people were seeing. Little Green men? HAHAHA! Next the nay-sayers are going to say the King James in the picture is Photoshopped. It’s quite obvious to me that Crystal loved her babies and they seemed quite loving with their mother. Like with their daddy. Only difference to me, is Haleigh went missing while in her fathers “child brides” care. Still think the crack pipe was either planted or unbenounced to the Griffis. Since so mannnnny nay-sayers were screaming that “they” had notice about the search, uh, duh, you’d think Marie would of checked for things like that. And since she didnt seem to try to hide anything, there you have it folks- THEY HAVE NOTHING TO HIDE.

It’s quite clear that photo is an original. Isn’t Crystal quite tall for a woman? It would make sense that she has long arms. Why is anyone even debating such things?

And thank you for making it a point to post these photos, which hopefully will put to rest the ridiculous rumors circulating as a result of some very shoddy and sleazy reporting by a self-proclaimed Internet “journalist.” Your perseverance and your adherence to solid journalism standards in pursuing Haleigh’s story is much appreciated.

What do you want the images for LMS? For your secret S.G. at WS? Oh yeah, they got closed down. I thought you were a Ronettes SS? I mean LMS. So what do you need the images for? You making a scrapbook or are you looking for Waldo in there? Give it up SS. I mean LMS. I highly doubt you have good intentions about wanting the attachments.
Art- if you were given these images exclusively. you dont need to allow them to be copied. The end up on other forums for debate and trust me, they are picked apart in the most discusting way.

Since Marie instigated the search, I think very seriously she would have knowingly left the crack pipe in the truck nearby…This smells like a set-up…It’s obvious to me Crystal was/is a loving Mother…I hope soon she gets custody of Jr., and Haleigh, when/IF she returns…Her health problems were brought on by grieving…I am sure I would not fare as well as she has…

Let’s face it Ron got custody, underhandedly, Because He didn’t want to be the one paying Child Support! I think Crystal would have been the better one, Not Ronnie Boy! all he thinks about is the Next Female! Oops But he Married the Child Bride! But that Marriage wasn’t made in Heaven. Given half the chance he’d dump her in a New York Minute! and Probably will in the long run of things! No! My Gut feeling is Misty and Ron Got into it that Last night, Haleigh got in the way, Ron Accidentally hit her, because of his anger, and Left Misty and His Mom to clean up the dastardly deed, Because Mommy doesn’t want for Her Sonny Boy to go to jail, so she is going along with the Plot. Because she belongs to the Sheriff’s Office crew, she feels like they are home free, and why not, Ronnie seems to have gotten off or away with Other things he had done in that county! and Being late at night, Who’d be the wiser, these kind of people knows more about their Neighbors than, the Neighbors knows about their Own Selves!! Ron – Misty – Mommy Fess UP!!!
P.S. – what a waist of Tax Payers Money, with that Search, out there at that place, after all this time! Course I don’t think it was them – It was Ron And Misty!

Art, Aren’t most children who have been abducted, turn up within a 5 mile radius?
Knowing that it’s an inside job, wouldn’t it be smart to check Misty’s areas that she is familar with? I asked myself where I would put a body and it would be someplace that I have been a lot. Schoolmates would know where Misty liked to party where she wouldn’t be caught. I really don’t think that RC knows anything about it. I think Misty did something and it was an accident, then got rid of the body using the van and waited up for Ron, getting her nerve to tell him her story. It’s just too convenient that Misty woke up at 3:00am. I believe she waited until the last minute to tell RC. Just thoughts.

I come to Arts site everyday to find out the latest. I do not visit any other site. Art reports fair and unbiased. He is very professional. He does everything he can to give all of us the facts about little Haleighs disappearance. He deserves your respect!!
I believe LE felt they had no evidence supporting the Griffis property search. I wish it had been a tip that led them there instead of an invite. This way when nothing was found, noone could dispute their innocence. You can see Crystal loves her children. Crystal took her children with her when she left Ron. Crystal allowed him to see their children. She did not think he would run off with them. ( IMO ) Crystal did not have anything to do with Haleighs disappearance. I still believe the answers lye in Satsuma.
Michael Jacksons death rules the news channels. I could not help but to think what if Haleigh recieved this kind of exposure. What a difference it could make.
I sometimes sit and wonder when Ron moved from the mobile home to his GG Sykes did he take all of Haleighs belongings with them. If not; where did he put them? Did he store them somewhere for when she comes back home or did he get rid of them believing she was not coming home?? Just a thought.
Art thank you for continued diligence and being the voice for Haleigh. I continue to pray for you every day. I pray everyday for Haleigh, as I do for all of the missing children. GODS SPEED

I want to believe that LE is doing all they can, and I’m not using the c word right now. However, I don’t understand some of what they have done, or didn’t do.
I don’t understand why Ron and Misty were not taken to headquarters on the night (morning) Haleigh went missing. Why they weren’t drug tested right there. Why hair samples of Jr. weren’t taken right then. It’s not like they didn’t know about Ron’s drug arrests. Actually I think they know Ron quite well, and even they may have been put in check-mate by whoever took Haleigh.
I don’t understand why Tim Miller was let go, and not invited back. Why LE said it’s not a stranger abduction. They must have known that she wasn’t in the area. Well OK if it’s not. They have had plenty of time to check out family. Oh – wait, more than likely they were wrong! Shall we take even more time; let’s go back to the beginning. Maybe Ron and Misty know more than they are saying

I do not believe that Crystal had anything to do with the disappearance of her daughter. She appears to love her children and it seems she is very much in pain when she speaks about Haleigh’s abduction.
Crystal is a product of her environment and it is a shame that people are judging her for something she had no control over growing up. As a young teenage mother without a positive role model, she made some serious mistakes, but she has admitted to it and it really appears to me she is attempting to change.
I for one will give Crystal the benefit of the doubt and I will also give her my hopes and prayers that she will get her life together for the sake of her children.
Art, thanks for keeping Haleigh’s story alive. So many of the media outlets seem to have forgotten all about Haleigh.

You people I don’t understand why the interest in how tall Crystal is or about some damn crack pipe found on the property, My interest is WHERE IS HALEIGH????? THis whole damn thing has gotten to the point now it should be published as a novel. Seems like people is wprried about pick-up trucks wit crack and crack pipes found in it, searching property that should have been searched five months ago ect.. Well Haleigh didn’t become missing from that property to begain with. The whole Focus seems to have left Little HALEIGH!!!!!The focus needs to be on the baby sitter / baby bride she no’s more then she is saying and Ron knows that as well or he would not have married te STUPID KID!!!! They may have traded her for Drugs.

Art: Thanks again for keeping Haleigh fresh in your web site, I stayed away for a while as I am tired of hearing all the bickering or pointing the finger at each other. Everyone keeps forgetting that the important one here and always will be is Haleigh is missing and she is the one everyone should be not only looking for her but praying for her safe return. My thoughts will always be, when she is found that she be returned to her Bio-Mother and Jr. too!! Thanks again for all you’re doing in this case and Cobra, Jane etc.!! Art: I’ve been inspecting these photos very carefully. I have been working in Photoshop for 10 years and am a digital photo hobbyist. These photos ARE NOT FAKE. If anyone claims otherwise, they will be easily disputed.

There is someone claiming we knowingly published fake photos, which is absurd, an accuser with a few axes to grind after we turned him down for a job, and who has no direct witnesses to this purported fakery, or smoking gun evidence to back up the worst case of lying, yellow journalism that would be actionable if it were it not such a joke.
As for his so called “experts.” I believe he says one is a self appointed child advocate who has hate-bombed this site and others, with lots of innacurate info, and another is believed to be a high school teacher who teaches photo shop…Not even the worst tabloid would wrap a story around such half- baked experts, and tout it as a holy sh– exclusive, hanging his hat on it to accuse us of deliberately running fake photos….
Help me if I’m missing something, but my big question is what’s Crystal’s motive to try to photo shop a picture of her and Haleigh? If it’s to pump up a mother daughter relationship because no photos exist showing them together, so one has to be created from whole cloth via smoke and mirrors, well, ok, I can understand the concern, but that’s not the case.
There are lots of Crystal-HaLeigh pix, including the one on my site, in addition ones our false witnesses claim are photo shopped. Oh, and the so called experts cited in the bogus stories aren’t even saying Crystal’s head was plopped onto another person who was really hugging the kids, or maybe just hugging Jr and so Haleigh had to be dropped in. Nothing like that alleged. And what about the blow ups of Jr. with two different facial expressions in the same shirt…did they photo shop the smile?…Art

Art, I am a mother, grandmother, great grandmother. If my son’s teenage mistress SUPPOSEDLY let my grandchild disappear, I certainly would not take the teenager into my home, prepare cake, preacher, dress, ring, flowers and whatever else for a wedding in order for her to marry my son!! That is, unless, I knew that I would be protecting MY SON from being accused of being involved in the “WHAT REALLY HAPPENED(in this case)TO HALEIGH.” Just another person’s opinion, only! Wow-I would be guilty, also!

#1. I work with photoshop and paint shop pro alot, and I can do alot of things, not bragging, just making a point. Those pictures are the real deal, they have not been tampered with in any way shape or form. Anyone who thinks otherwise, doesn’t know their butt from their elbow.
#2. you know… I was sitting here the other night just thiking about the similarities in the Caylee Anthony story and Haleigh Cummings.
A. Caylee’s “mommy” went out and got tattooed… so did Haleigh’s “daddy” during a time they BOTH should have been out looking for their little girls !
B. Casey A. was a party girl, and liked drugs, Misty is a party girl, and both she and Ron like drugs also.
C. Casey had so many inconsistancies in her stories “LIES”, Ron and Misty have had many inconsistancies also, mainly Misty (LIES??)
The differences…Caylee was found,Poor Haleigh is still out there somewhere.
……Casey was arrested on other charges initially(checks)
Why isn’t Ron arrested for drugs,and/or contributing to the deliquency of a minor ?(Golden boy, never seems to have to face consequences for any laws he breaks)
I somehow don’t think Ron nor Misty have the stubborn constitution Casey has been having, maybe if they were arrested on their other charges, one of them would break.
Casey was charged with lying to LE, Why don’ they charge Misty with the same thing ?
Plus I am sure, if LE would just start looking back at the beginnning, they would find other charges to add on too.
Child protective services really need to start stepping up too, and getting Jr. out of there.That little boy doesn’t need to be with a pill popping daddy and step mom.
Even though LE had said that because no money exchange was made when Ron handed pills to (who was it again? Misty’s dad and brother?)Maybe they need to start watching Ron a little closer, because if he is carrying “loose pills” iin his pockets, without prescription bottles that show HIS name on them, it IS against the law right there ! That care slick. They have an interview and try to tell us they have been told they are not suspects ….I thought EVERYONE was still being looked at.
and Art ?? What was the deal about, Ron picked Haleigh up at the bus stop before he went to work that last day before she went missing, and drove her home, kissed her,and he cried and said he never thought he would come home and find she was gone…..yet another story claims Misty drove to the school and picked her up in the van, Misty had friends with her, (they assumingly were talking about the drugs they took the night before)seen by other mothers picking up their children, and also saw Misty turn around and slap a little boy in the back seat ??? WHO REALLY picked Haleigh up ?

J4H: I’ve reported Misty picked Haleigh up hte last day at the bus stop; Ron did not, so the question is why did he tell that story. At least three parents at the bus stop confirm, and LE may have more.

I have a few questions and hope you can get some answers for us.
I really would like to know what LE has decided to do? And why have they not charged Misty and Ron with child neglect, making false official statements, and obstructing an investigation? I would call it obstruction since they have not been honest, I would also call it neglect, if they have witness to Misty not being home the night Haleigh went missing. I would also call it neglect and endangerment that Ron left his children in Misty’s care with her drug history and her history of taking off. Of course he will not admit to what ever ties he has with drugs-why would he?What makes them any different than Casey Anthony? Heck, Ron also got a tattoo of Haleigh and Jr. while Haleigh is still missing. Seems like a common thing to do in cases like these. JMO
LE did state on June 5th that, LE, the state attorney’s office and the FBI gathered in for a round-table discussion. “There were a lot of new ideas and a lot of things that they looked at that they were going to look at again. It was said that the group intended to meet again in 30 days if the case had not yet been solved. It has been over 30 days and nothing. Several statements caught my attention to that news release. One is that the State Attorney was also at the round-table discussion and I felt that maybe they have an idea on what happen to Haleigh and maybe charges were going to be filed on someone. It’s not like they don’t have reason to charge Misty and Ron.
LE has not disclosed any of the reports from the evidence gathered and lab analysis. What did they entail if anything?
I also would like to know if this Jesse Watkins has any previous criminal record and why LE could not find him? I hope that they have since the discovery of the empty truck on the property with the undisclosed amount of crack and crack pipes. I have been doing some searching and did find someone with same last name that is a SO, but different first name (Jeffrey)L. Watkins. He has a 2005 Ford PICKUP that is grey.
I also found , Apr 17, 2007 … Jesse Watkins, 45 years old, was released on bail after being extradited from Florida on outstanding weapons charges originating.
Could this man Jessie Watkins have any ties to Haleigh?

I keep hearing the town is keeping things quiet b/c they don’t want the public to know how coruupt they are. Why is it that everyone covers for Ron & he can what seems to be get away with breaking the law. He obviously does not love his kids. He made that clear when he married that teenage twit when all this broke out in the media. I like the rest of America want justice and it seems it’s not going to come at all. We want justice!

So get me a smoking gun, not a smoking theory, and we’ll bust a corruption story…It’s a small town, people know each other, favors are done, but that doesn’t mean it’s criminal or rises to the level of probable cause. As for Ron, he swaggers like a tough guy, that’s the image he wants to project, gangsta, but until and unless he’s caught breaking the law, he won’t be arrested, just like anyone else down there. So you can’t go slinging serious accusations…BUT if he does get caught breaking a significant law, or evidence rising to the level of probable cause is found implicating him or ANYONE ELSE, they will be scooped up and charged with whatever they do or may have done. No one is saying Ron did anything to Haleigh; he obviously loved his little girl, and Misty says over and over she does, too. But most believe she knows more than she’s saying, probably Ronald, too. Maybe her synapses are too cloudy to recall, and Ron knows nothing. Only time will tell. But why bust these people, or anyone else, for something small, like driving witihout a license?
Police want to find Haleigh, not harrass the innocent with nit-picking charges that could get thrown out.

I hope you are right. However, I still believe he doesn’t really love his kid. There is no way a normal person would concentrate on getting married to his underage bride who somehow can’t keep her story straight when it comes to the facts of that night. And to be frank that move put alot of people off. How could someone take time to get married & have a honeymoon only a few weeks after their child is missing. It just leaves a bad taste in the mouth to alot of us looking in from the outside.

Not sure who is covering for Ron, however, per Child Protective Services he has their blessing with continuation of keeping Jr. in his custody.
He must be doing something right.

I think Ron married Misty to legitimize their relationship and make it look OK that he left both children in her care, among other reasons. I also think that in this “custody” case as in many others, whether the parents love the children or truly provide a stable home ends up being besides the point. Ron wanted the kids because if Crystal had them he would have to pay her child support. This way, she owed HIM child support. He got custody because he had an income and Crystal didn’t. He had Misty there for his own purposes including watching the kids. Marrying her was a way to keep her around and stay allied in order to keep whatever they did to Haleigh quiet, in addition to keeping Junior from his mother and continuing to get child support from her instead of giving it to her. That’s what it looks like to me, anyway.

I’ll be happier when ’sweeps’ or over for a while and yet then it’s ‘all ‘Main Stream Media’ and ‘Reruns’ just to sell us more junk, and drugs, and alcohol…
But guess “The Marlboro Man” died of lung cancer and too, many caught on to ‘that trend’…literally.

Art: Why has a missing child case deteriorated to just a few people arguing back and forth on a web site and discussing the other petty crimes of the parties involved.
Why are these people not prosecuted at least for their drug crimes and child endangerment until they get to the bottom of the real crime? If I had done the things these people have done it would not just be a matter of discussion, I would be in jail and my remaining child removed to safety. Is it because Ron,s mom works for the sheriff’s department that they seem to be getting a free pass?
Also, I don’t understand why all the media organizations dropped the case and are ignoring it. I understand that there may be no “new” news, but that didn’t stop people like Nancy Grace reporting the same “breaking news” month after month in the Anthony case until Caylee was found.
I can readily see that most of this little girl’s family is pathetic, involved in criminal activity and live a disgusting life style, but that doesn’t change the fact that someone has committed a terrible crime against this child and she is still missing. Hayleigh certainly deserves that justice be done and her abduction not just swept under a carpet of corruption.

There are alot of factors that go into what shows put on…Is it news? New? Current…t? A new missing child to capture the nation’s heart strings? Is it a story with twists and turns to report, a suspect, a smoking gun? With Haleigh, there are a couple of people police believe know more than they are sharing, and we now who they are…Is that news? Sadly, not in this world we live in and watch on TV. Networks and shows would die in the ratings game covering a “no news” story…As you so aptly observed, the Anthony’s had the missing child of a wild child mother on the right side of the tracks, with rich friends, who was telling lots of different stories.
You have parents who are always pushing the media envelope, who retain media hungry PIs who bail out suspects, now with a suspect charged with murder. You have jailhouse tapes, lurid behaviour caught on film, and now a strategy of defense and prosecution that is a formula for media interest a la OJ.
Drama makes television, and in Satsuma, sadly there’s not much drama around the investigation, just sideshows, which don’t make waves, just ripples in a blog world, where people create–and treat –rumors as news, getting jollies by inciting a small handful. With no place to go, they then turn on each other and argue over opinions without facts. BS draws little major media attention, but can create a vacuum where the passion of good people hungry for clues can be hoodwinked by nobodies yearning to be somebody, screaming they’ve go the scoop, but have nothing…Fools rushing in. No, Ron said he drove Haleigh home on his lap and let her drive…whether he did or not, no witnesses back him up that day. Re Misty, companions were family and friends. My witnesses did not see Ron.

I would call it obstruction since they have not been honest, I would also call it neglect, if they have witness to Misty not being home the night Haleigh went missing. I would also call it neglect and endangerment that Ron left his children in Misty’s care with her drug history and her history of taking off. Of course he will not admit to what ever ties he has with drugs-why would he?What makes them any different than Casey Anthony? Heck, Ron also got a tattoo of Haleigh and Jr. while Haleigh is still missing. Seems like a common thing to do in cases like these. JMO
MADJGNLAW, people have asked this question 100 different ways, obviously hoping that one way they ask it will be the one that gets the response. The answer is, they obviously don’t have enough to hold them. You seem to want them arrested so they can get back out by dinner, is that it? As much as we want there to be a break in this case, you can’t simply create evidence where there isn’t any. If you arrest Misty for her drugs, you have to arrest Crystal for hers. If you arrest Misty for child endangerment (even though there’s no evidence of that), you also have to arrest Crystal for child endangerment (that’s what they call it when you drive your children around with no license, and an undiagnosed seizure disorder, child endangerment. If you’re truly concerned for Haleigh and Jr., expand you mind a bit and look at everyone who failed her.

Art, Two good PIs that we know have wanted to find what happened to Haleigh. They have followed the Haleigh Cummings story from the beginning. They are “these good people” who are not hungry for clues; true, they would be hoodwinked, considered hungry for media attention. That is far from the reality of these PIs. They could have already “been directly involved” if it weren’t for Fools rushing in opinions. They continue to put Haleigh’s pictures around their necks, car rearview mirrors, wear her bracelets day and night–and asked many times, “Who is the little girl in the picture?” It is then they are reminded, “Haleigh Cummings is still missing.” Sure, they could have gotten publicity; however, they did not become directly involved. Instead, they carry reminders of Haleigh everywhere they go. They continue to believe the people/person who is responsible for Haleigh Cummings’ disappearance will be brought to justice. At the right time, LE has the FACTS, arrests, then judgement will prevail for the GUILTY one/ones. Until then, let’s pray for Haleigh and the ones who love and miss her most.

I can NOT get over this. They wait months to search and let them know ahead of time that they are coming? When these two have been having custody issues for years? I mean common sense tells us they would not keep her at their house with all this media attention however, the mother has to be a main suspect. That does not mean she has to have done the herself. Just that she got someone to do this or someone did this on her behalf.
