Moments before he took the stage in Denver to touch 84,000 people Thursday night, I stood just a few feet away, camera rolling, to capture Sen. Barack Obama, as he touched two dozen voters, picked at random to meet him, in a rare and personal way.
He’s an active listener, engaging, bantering, even comforting with one woman who was so overcome with emotion, she burst into tears.
“Why are you crying?” he asked, hugging her, telling her everything was going to be okay. Read the rest of this entry »

Denver, Colo., Aug. 28–With my laptop back from a crashed hard drive, I can now report what it was like to sit in the cavernous Pepsi Center in Denver last night, with the Democratic all-stars knocking speeches out of the park, from the surrogate war heroes like double amputee and decorated chopper pilot Tammy Duckworth…to ex-Prez Bill Clinton did what I thought impossible. It looked like Joe all day, with the Virginia governor, then Sen. Evan Bayh saying they were not Barack Obama’s co-pilot. Hillary admitted she’d never even been vetted by his committee and was left licking her wounds with the consolation prize of a speech, plus one for Wild Bill, at the convention.
Then it was only Sen. Joe Biden, for days uncharacteristically quiet and coy with the press for someone never known to be at a loss for words…a frontrunner by many expert accounts all along, then confirmed by news wires as Obama’s choice after midnight Friday…We’ll see him in Denver.

We’re off to see old friends on the political trail in Denver for the Democratic Convention and eager to see if the mile high drama gives Sen. Obama a boost in the polls, narrowing recently between him and Sen. John McCain.
Keep an eye on ET and The Insider, for our behind the scenes reports, and when we can blog, we will.
As for McCain’s ad mocking a Denver coronation, it comes on the heels of the Vietnam War hero forgetting how many homes he had, in response to a reporter’s question. Obama made hay with that (”I’ve got one, he’s got seven”), then the McCain camp was quick to fire back that BO shouldn’t be slinging bricks, mortar and mud. Read the rest of this entry »

While pundits debate Sen. Barack Obama’s VEEP recruiting, vetting running mates down to the wire, filmmaker Michael Moore questions the wisdom of hedging bets with some conservative, smart-ass White Boy who backed the war, like Sen. Joe Biden, or Sen. Evan Bayh, who also has blue collar appeal, or governor of Virginia, Tim Kaine.
So what if they can deliver big blocks of electoral votes if they don’t jive with with what he Stands for, asks Moore in an open letter to Caroline Kennedy asking the Obama running mate adviser to toss her hat into the ring. It could also chill gripes about Sen. Hillary Clinton and conjure excitement over party roots. Read the rest of this entry »

We knew it would only be a matter of time before Paris riffed back at the “white-haired dude” for gigging Obama with the hyped sin of celebrity by association. He may well have to watch his back with John McCain’s Hollyweird message evoking McCarthy, and keep new text message buds like George Clooney at Blackberry length.
With Clooney reportedly advising Barrack on body language, next thing you know, Paris will be putting out feelers for Sen. John Edwards as her Vice on a Ken and Barbie ticket.
