No longer shrink-wrapped, pop star Britney Spears quietly left UCLA Medical Center earlier Wednesday after a week in the pscychiatric ward following her harrowing meltdown, reported the Los Angeles Times.

The paper said sources believed she was headed home before seeking possible treatment for unspecified emotional problems. If a hospital determines she’s no longer a risk to herself or others, it cannot hold her against her will; other reports said she’d begged her father, Jamie, to spring her from the psyche ward. Actor Heath Ledger died of an accidental prescription drug overdose of painkillers, sleeping pills and anti-anxiety meds, according the New York City medical examiner.

“Mr. Heath Ledger died as a result of acute intoxication by the combined effects of oxycodone, hydrocodone, diazepam, temazepam, alprazolam and doxylamine,” said Ellen Borakove, the department spokeswoman, in a statement issued Wednesday morning. “We have concluded that the manner of death is accident, resulting from the abuse of prescription medications.”

Within six short days of Daniel Smith’s death, Virgie Arthur hit television shows to accuse her long-estranged daughter, Anna Nicole Smith, of negligence, or murder in connection with the apparent accidental overdose of her own son, and warned her to be careful about companion Howard K. Stern, fingering him as a possible killer, too, out to make a buck.

Now shocking e mails from Arthur’s own photo agent, David Leigh of Splash News, obtained exclusively by The Bald Truth, reveal a grieving grandmother hustling her own media deals. In hawking exclusive rights to cover her own memorial service for Daniel in Texas, to TV shows and magazines like In Touch weekly, the e mails suggest a case of the pot calling the kettle black.

The New York Post reports Anna Nicole Smith’s long-estranged mother, Virgie Arthur, “tried to make a fast buck off the death of her grandson, Daniel Smith,” and cites E mails sent to Entertainment Tonight from David Leigh of Splash News on her behalf.

A shocking report in Page Six Monday says the e-mails show Leigh, Splash News Miami bureau chief who escorted Arthur to the Florida trial in February, 2006, and accompanied her to the morgue, offered ET “exclusive rights to her private memorial for Daniel after his drug death in September, 2006. Joran van der Sloot, once a suspect in the Natalie Holloway vanishing, says the missing Alabama cheerleader fell unconscious after they had sex on an Aruban beach, and a friend dumped her body at sea.

But he feels no remorse, according to our translation of a Dutch TV sting that aired Sunday night in Holland. “I haven’t lost one night’s sleep over it,” he tells an undercover reporter.

Three years after the blond teenager went missing on a high school senior trip, a hidden camera for Dutch television captured Joran’s casual conversation on a videotape we had translated into English late Sunday.
