The Bald Truth: Joran Van der Sloot Update
Art takes a question from Nancy Grace guest host on Natalee Holloway case
By Art Harris, (c) www.artharris.com
If Aruban logic rules, it’s open season for body dumpers.
When Joran Van der Sloot confessed to watching Natalee Holloway convulse into unconsciousness after what he called consensual sex on an Aruban beach in 2005, then dispose of her body by loading it onto a boat for an unceremonial burial at sea, he no doubt figured, no body, no proof.
Then slept soundly that night and went about bidness as usual, as advised, he said, by a mystery accomplice he’s yet to name truthfully. Some believe his father, Paulus, has been advising him all along, but Joran has said he will go to his grave before fingering anyone.
So why did he name a guy named Daury as the speed boat driver, an old friend who later turned out to have been in Holland, before another Daury was also ruled out as the pal who dumped Natalie, possibly still alive? Or say he made a call from a pay phone we now learn was never working.
Regardless, the Aruban Court of Appeals says there’s not enough factual evidence to hold Joran behind bars while the prosecutor cranks up yet another Holloway investigation based on the stunning hidden camera videos telling his callous tale on a Dutch television sting.
Its reasoning: Joran is such a liar, you can’t believe the confession, or anything he says after so much of what he’s said has been debunked with facts. It didn’t even address his purple haze defense, though Dutch journalist Peter DeVries calls that a lie, too.
The three judge panel certainly didn’t think jail was justified for what, at a minimum, might bring six months in jail for dumping a body. Yep, six months.
That’s Aruba’s penalty for getting rid of some pesky body that’s trashing the beach and just might contain DNA evidence or some sort of injury to prove Joran murdered Natalie. But no body, no murder.
A six month sentence under Aruban penal codes for disposing of a body hit us in the face as almost comical, even prima facie evidence the island has a class of body dumpers who enjoy royal protection. I mean, is there a class of body dumpers with some powerful lobby writing slap on the wrist laws to punish them if they get caught?

I am a firm believer in innocent until proven guilty. A confession, however it given is admitting he is guilty. A person does not go around talking, confessing, and bragging about something so horrible, even if it wasn’t true. That is unbelievable about the six month law for dumping of a human being of any kind in any way. Even though he is a liar like they say, just to describe and talk about her that way during his confession chatter is disgusting and churns my stomach. This kid will get what he deserves from the public probably. Even though he is free to walk about, he will be taunted and noticed wherever he goes. The ridicule to him from now on will be too much to bare. His conscience will haunt him forever. I know that it is not justice for that gorgeous young girl, but it’s better than nothing at all. So for that, I am glad to tape became public, if nothing else, then for her justice in some way. MOP

After reading the ARUBA authority,s conclusion, mine is they already knew van der sloot was, respondsible. they did everything the wrong way,so this would be there outcome.if I was going to ARUBA i WOULD SURE BACK AWAY,I WOULD NEVER GO THERE,HOPE THEY CAN LIVE THEMSELFS.

Wow Art,
thanks for the update. This is kinda unbelievable. The Aruban law for dumping a body at sea is only 6 months in jail. Very interesting, definitely no place for teenages on a class trip. Hope the schools in the U.S. wise up to where they can take senior class trips. Cause Aruba is sure not a good place, after this.
It’s sad that so many people in this world like Joran Van der Sloot have very little respect for human life.

Why do women keep putting themselves in these dangerous situations? You get so drunk you don’t know what your doing and your friends leave you alone. There is evil in the world and women must protect themselves. I wish the world was a safe place for people but it is not. When I was young my girlfriends knew I didn’t like to get drunk so I watch out for them. In college if one went to the bathroom I followed her to make sure she got back. In a perfect world a woman shouldn’t have to worry about her life, but this is not a perfect world. It’s not the woman’s fault but she doesn’t have to make it esay for him.

APPALLING HOW THE ARUBIAN COURTS ARE HANDLING THIS OBVIOUS CASE OF DISPOSING OF A BODY OR POSSIBLY EVEN MURDER IF NATALEE WAS STILL ALIVE. WE WILL NEVER KNOW THE TRUTH. BUT JORAN WILL BEAR THE MARK OF CAIN UPON HIS SOUL AND WILL ULTIMATELY BE JUDGED FOR HIS CRIMES.

His Dutch lawyer reports Joran is now afraid to walk the streets after his televised interview made him perhaps one of the most reviled people in a country that earned a bold, humanitarian reputation for standing up to Hitler by hiding Jews fleeing extermination camps during World War II.
The Dutch TV special on Joran by journalist Peter DeVries drew a record 7 million viewers in Holland alone… Maybe no place to run or hide for Joran except the pot parlors and poker games…
Sources tell me his parents have hired security back home in Aruba after a high public official dubbed their son persona non grata. But is it all PR window dressing?
My sources inside and outside the country tell me the family still enjoys some powerful protectors. — Art

How sad! Just another case of how justice can be defeated by money and influence.
My sympathy lies with Natalee’s family, and also Anita Van Der Sloot. A family who has lost a daughter, and a mother who will forever have doubts about her son and her husband.
Heartbreaking situation.
No way would I let a child of mine go to Aruba!

Hey Art thanks for the update. I have been following this case since it started.
1.Urine I mean Joran,,,should become the tourist marketing director of Aruba for all the publicity he has brought to the Island.
2. Papa Van de Smut or Sloot is the person that protected Joran, he has too many powerful friends till one of his friends daughters dies at the hands of Joran than it will change otherwise forget about it….
3.Peter de Vries is a good man and so is the person who got it out of this scum sucking pig,
4. 6 months for disposing of a body hell maybe I should of gone there when my divorce took so long to process..in 6 months I would of been free already.
5. Believe it or not there is justice, universal justice I think his freedom is the best punishment that could happen he will have to deal with the outside world and every single person who watched that video Imagine what it must be like to be him now… remember OJ???.
6. Art money talks always has, there are two laws one for the rich and one for the poor.
perhaps report who the powerful protectors are lets get them involved usually those people want to remain quiet not make waves…..get names on this board

Hi Art,
Even a confession has to be proved. But didn’t they go all over this possibility?
I didn’t follow this case but school trips and partying do not mix.

Mary, I said the same thing and got blasted, so thank you! Bad things can and DO happen to good people which is why we do things like follow the rules of the road, don’t hitch hike or pick up hitch hikERS, and don’t walk off with strangers. Where were her so-called “friends” to stop her from walking off? As for improperly disposing of a body, you people would be suprized at how light the penalty IS. In some places it’s a misdemenor! Unfortunately for the Aruban authorities, they never had anything to go on because not only was there no body there was no crime scene. When I was with FDLE, we got a conviction without a body but we DID have a crime scene where luminol revealed so much blood no one could have lived, and there was a tiny bit of brain matter found on the ceiling for good measure. Even if the authorities had found out he’d dumped the body at sea after only a few days they’d never have found it! Oceans have currents that move things MILES away from where they started, and in a marine environment like he Carribean, where the waters are warm, not only does the body decompose faster, but savengers like crabs, shrimp, fish, and in the carribean SHARKS do number on a human body.

Seems I read that the netherlands has the same type of judicial system. Not every country follows the US and our laws.In some countries they still cut off your hand for theft and use a whip for some offences in the asian community.

I, For one, keep wondering when Urine Vandershit is going to be rearrested for taped “confession”. Isn’t there somne way some kind of torture, such as a kick in the balls, or a little waterboarding that the Dutch or Aruban authorities can perform on this asshole to break him and make him tell the truth? These kind of procedures should be used in a case like this. Then when he comes out with the truth, the correct kind of justice can be meted out to this guy.

I can’t understand the backlash against the country. You blame a whole country because of the actions of one? Granted it is a tourist destination and bad press isn’t conduscive to travel planning. Then there’s that little stickler of Judge being a daddy to said creep. So yes, there very well could of been a coverup. Would he have been arrested immediately if not for his Dad? Who knows?
Kids and spring break/senior trips happen everywhere. Read the headlines. There’s predators lurking waiting for opprotunity.
6 mths tho, I have to admit, is a joke. Don’t imagine he’ll be bringing anyone new home, ever, to meet the parents.

Good! I hope he is worried to death for the rest of his life! He didn’t lose any sleep over Natalee, but he is plenty worried for himself eh?
In my opinion he gave that girl a date rape drug or injured her in some way. No normal person’s first instinct, when faced with a person in distress, would be to find a way to dispose of a body — especially one who could still be alive.
A “human being” would have called for help, at least one that didn’t have something horrible to cover up. I hope he lives in a hole -terrified for his safety- for the rest of his rotten life.
I always wanted to go to Aruba. After this I will do without it.

Have they showed the WHOLE undercover video of Joran on US TV yet or just the Dutch shows? I was wondering where I could see it all.
Prayers to the family.
Thanks

I can’t understand why so many are angry at the Aruban officials for not putting Van Der Sloot away. They have no choice! Without a body or crime scene or body they can’t PROVE anything and that’s what counts; what they can PROVE! While they may have this so-called confession from a proven liar, all he has to say, and he WILL I guarentee it, is that he was telling this guy what he wanted to hear. If the Aruban system is anything like ours, there is NO STATUTE OF LIMITATIONS ON MURDER, and a person CANNOT be tried twice for the same crime no matter HOW compelling the new evidence. There was a case of a murder where the DA just KNEW the man had committed the murder. The only witness was a drug addicted prostitute who had changed her story several times and came into court looking and acting like what she was. The jury didn’t believe her and the guy walked. Several years later a family remodeling a home the guy had rented found VIDEO TAPES of the guy committing the murder! Nothing could be done and the guy walks the streets TODAY!

Art Harris, I like your annonce on the forum buttom page..Aruba for sale…..
February 28th, 2008 at 9:33 am
Iam with jangie on this one ,why blame the whole country for one bad apple, that would be like blming any state or city because muder happened there. .again there was no evidence for the aruban government to use .if they tried him on this and lost he might walk and if proof ever did come up there would be nothing that could be done.Does no one but jangie think of this including Nancy Grace.

am i reading the ‘real art’ when ‘he’ comments?
March 9th, 2008 at 1:56 pm
A comment elsewhere leads me to my 2 cents on this subject.
If Natalee was a sensible and innocent girl, it is possible that being away from home pumped her up to be trustworthy and take the chance she took, leading to her demise. Being in a new place or a beautiful island can distort a person’s view and impair one’s judgment into believing that everything is as safe as it is beautiful.

he is still lying to protect his father and whoever else paid him to provide a drugged out teenage american girl that night. He is mostly protecting his father though because she was probably under-drugged and not unconscious when papa sloot took his turn raping her. better he not go to jail, then he is out among the wolves. God has somthing in store for him, and that father of his. Nut from the tree, and all that.
