drbehavior:

I just read your February 7th comment and it sank in like a ton of bricks. It reminds me of the psychiatrist and the nurse social worker who banded together to declare me unfit to be my son's guardian because I did not want them to ship off my son to that "heavenly" New York "that has so much to offer" where a relative had lied to the treatment team that he would my son's best interests at heart and look out for him. That uncaring, highly overpaid mental health duo merely wanted me out of their way so they could rid themselves of a problem patient. That duo should have long ago given their own brain a rest and gone to work plowing the fields where they belong.

P.S. to Mary:

My "throne" comment was not directed at you. One's acquaintances, friends and relatives are the experts are offering useless advice.

Among the "experts" whose advice I have been subject is the mother of a young man suffering from depression, who committed suicide at the age of 21. Since the "act" took place while he was visiting relatives, I assume she believes she would or could have prevented it.

Mary:

You are right. Professionals should be in charge and it would be ideal if professionals were all able and capable. Some are, most are not. Or else they start out with good intentions and burn out but remain because they need a job. Others become doctors and nurses simply because that highly regarded profession was pushed on them by parents who want to prove they produced a prized offspring. Being the mother or father of a money machine is nothing to sneeze about either.

I don't understand "strangers are experts at offering their wise solutions from the stafety and warmth of their thrones."
Except that I think professional should be in charge of Brit's care and we must make sure her right aren't violated we argree . Having work in the healt field for 24 yrs I have seen abuse from both sides. Children sleeping in class because their parents keep taking them to churchs to "cure" them. We have one guy after he got his monthly check and spent the day at the bar had the police bring him in for a 3 day evaluation.
He now goes to another hospital because no one (including pts)
is allowed to smoke here any more.

I do agree that Brit needs help. But I think is should be professionals, not her so called friends or her so called family. Her family started her on this road when she was 2yrs old. Her mother told her to lie Brit's enter life. Lynn told Disney she was 9 when she was really 8. They gave her breast implants as a teenager and than had the implants removed when she started to develop. Brit was sexually active since 14. We agree she needs help, we just disagree on who. Family or professionals. I think her family was part of the problem.
I do not think the "bum" on the street is lazy but since we don't wand to spend the money helping them, the mentally ill often get sent to prison instead of getting the help they need. Every one will say half way houses are a good thing but not in their community. The mentally ill go from one hell whole to the next. But from the other side I have seen health care givers physically abused by pts and received no justice. The health care giver had to quit for her own safety. She was hit in the jaw and kicked on the ground and when she restrained her attacker the administration said she was not allowed to touch her patient. Nothing about the pt attacking her.

Indeed, how dare Britney be subject to the watchful eyes of her immediate family?

It is against one's civil rights to coerce a patient (who is not currently being a danger to self and/or others) into taking medication against his/her will. It is also illegal to keep patients hospitalized against their will if they are not being dangerous to self and others; at the same time, it is not illegal to discharge a patient, (as is often done) even though the patient may have has no means of fending for themselves nor are there programs available to help in the transition. Whatever programs exist, are underfunded and inadequate. But many think that it is OK because those "bums" on the streets are just "lazy" "bums", until, of course, that "bum" happens to be your child or someone you love and your own hands are tied!

Strangers are experts are offering their wise solutions from the safety and warmth of their thrones.

Food for thought!

Britney's civil rights have been violated, so let's set her free from her family's clutches. As soon as Britney is free of her family, she will run to the vulture(s) who can provide her with a grounded mixture of medications, and a tall glass of wine to wash down that nasty tasting medication. She will then be surrounded by the papparazzi who "really" love the dough they get for her picture snapped while wadding barefoot through public restrooms. Next, she will be talked into giving away her possessions that are simply taking up space anyway.

Does that sound more reasonable and safer for Britney.

Just so that you won't get too bored, I will share a little event. Years ago, shortly after my son (who suffers from mental illness) was set up in his apartment, he felt lonely and decided to make some friends. It did not take long for him to find a couple of guys who were eager to befriend him and invite him to be their roomate. They helped him bring all his clothes and a small refrigerator into their car and while my son was waiting to get inside the car, they took off.

Story #2. While hospitalized, one of the hospital workers whom my son trusted, agreed to do him the favor of getting him some money from a cash machine. My son was happy to have some spending money until he found that the hospital employee had helped himself to a couple of hundred dollars. When that realization hit us, it was a couple of months later and very likely too late for a tape to still be available to prove the theft.

In my opinion, the only solution is to push aside all pesky, annoying illnesses and allow scientists to concentrate their efforts on finding the proper treatment to eradicate the cruel horrors of mental illness.

Now it seems someone wants to take this to a federal court because Brit's rights have been taken away without due process.

Years ago it was very easy to insitutionalize(?) someone. Remeber Francis Farmer, the actress? Society closed the mental hospital and threw them out onto the streets. I guess it's cheaper to keep them in prison. But we can not forget anyone's legal rights.
I am happy Brit is getting help but it should be a friend of the court not her family. When the dust settles she may never forgive or trust her family. Why is her brother in charge of her daily expernses? He's getting paid for his services. Why can't he get a job on his own? Again this may pust Brit away from her family But if it's the courts than the family can keep their hands clean.
Is Brit mentally ill. Usually they self medicate themselves but the blood test for custody came back negative. If she is so mentally ill that she needs a 24 hr guard, no phone, no money than why didn't the state take her driver license away? She was driving the day she got out of the hospital when didn't the police arrest her and send her to the jail's mental hospital? Why isn't Michael Jackson in the hospital, why didn't they take away his kids? Is covering their faces with mask normal? Every mentally ill person has rights that's why it's so hard to help them and that's why I question if her family hasn't been given special assistance.
Remember Brit sent her mother a letter saying never to come near her again? Why would she than give her any right to look at her medical info. I can't tell a husband if his wife is done with her test until I check with her(IT'S a federal law).
Please excuse the spelling I tried to go back to edit it but couldn't. thanks
