Bald Truth Exclusive: O.J. Walks for $250,000; Cash + House…Enough Collateral For New Bail?

O.J. Simpson traded in his jail jumpsuit for a sports shirt to fly home to Miami on Thursday, a day after an angry Las Vegas judge jacked up bail on armed robbery charges to $250,000, allowing the disgraced footballer to stay out of jail while he awaits trial for the alleged hotel heist that put him behind bars last year.
“I don’t know if it’s just arrogance. I don’t know if it’s ignorance,” frowned Clark County District Court Judge Jackie Glass. “But you’ve been locked up at the Clark County Detention Center since Friday (Jan. 11) because of arrogance or ignorance — or both.”
Late Wednesday, Simpson, 60, posted his new bond — double what he’d put put up last September–and walked free, again, six days after he was picked up and transferred to Nevada for violating terms of his release.
When he was freed in September, a judge ordered Simpson to have no contact with codefendants or witnesses in the armed robbery case that could put him behind bars for life.
He’s charged with orchestrating the armed robbery of two sports memorabilia dealers at a hotel room in Las Vegas, but allegedly violated terms of his release when he mentioned codefendant Clarence (C.J.) Stewart two months ago in a phone message he left for his bail bondsman.
On Wednesday, Judge Glass excoriated Simpson in court, making the Heisman Trophy winner wince.
Last September, another judge ordered Simpson not to reach out to anyone in the case, “even by carrier pigeon,” and avoid anyone else involved, even if it meant crossing the street if he saw them coming.
But his bail bondsman discovered an answering machine message from Simpson to C.J. Stewart, and turned it over to the district attorney who asked Judge Glass to revoke his earlier $125,000 bond, arrest him and bring him back for Wednesday’s hearing.
As collateral, Simpson was allowed him to put up $37,000 in cash and the deed to his Miami house.
But The Bald Truth has learned complex bankruptcy litigation involving Simpson’s home raises questions over who actually controls it, how much equity it might yield should it have to be sold to satisfy any future forfeiture and how quickly it could be liquidated, if at all.
In setting the bond–and allowing the house to be used as collateral–it’s unclear whether Las Vegas authorities factored in the $62 million in judgments Simpson already owes to the families of Fred Goldman and his late wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, after he was ruled to be responsible for the double murder, civilly, though acquitted in the criminal trial.
It’s possible, experts tell me, that Clark County taxpayers, or his bail bondsman, might have to cough up a couple of hundred grand to cover a deficit, if it ever comes to a forced sale of OJ’s home to satisfy any bail forfeiture in the future.
But pending the outcome in the bankruptcy case, it appears OJ, or the trustee in the bogus company set up to receive a book deal gone bust, at least won a minor victory when his bank was ordered to put up a $396,000 bond to cover any possible improper paydowns of the house note from money OJ used that could be ruled he owed to creditors.
See documents we obtained exclusively detailing the battle over OJ’s nest egg, and let us know how you read it.

OJ is old news and irrelevant in my opinion.

Where did OJ come up with the money to walk? If I was Fred Goldman, I would be trying to find this out. Two hundred fifty thousand dollars is a lot of money for someone who claims being broke.

I think the Judge made a dumb rehearshed speech and sounded stupid. I will not vote for her. OJ did not “reach” out to the codefendents, The BB man has hurt his business by proving his is not to be trusted and seeks only his fifteen minutes. Vegas jury will NEVER find him quilty of this complaint.

I have to say no matter what.a few days spent in jail and he got his message out to everyonenot just the one person he wanted it to go too.Sure is funny that the bailbonds person did not say something sooner.Would he have said anything at all if he had gotten his bail money???Who knowssince it took them so long to turn it over???

When I wastched the judge last night, spesking to O.J.. i saw how old he has gotten, in the last few weeks. Everything seems to be catching up to him. The news caster said that O.J.”s friends were raising the bail for him. Either all his friends are poor, or he does’nt have any friends that trust him. Fred Goldman, is probably sleeping a litter better these nights. Justice is being served.little by little.

Uh Art usually I love to read your stories, it is your website and your blog please do not be upset with me when I say I am really not interested in anything OJ ever. Each minute of each day there is another woman beaten and abused in your country, women are victims of physical and mental abuse and it is a never ending story. This man does not need any more publicity, he is not important nor is he valued in society any longer. The key word that defines this loser is entitlement and no other word should be used as he is just not worth the words written about him when his ex wife the mother of his children and that poor man who died at being at the wrong place at the wrong time, are in graves their crime has never been solved and Oj is once again a free man. Doesn’t that bug anyone ?

Just in case this ever gets posted, Warren is a little 5ft white guy, and he has a mom and a bunch of sisters, and I don’t think he had a daddy…in his life…that is.

I’m wondering if Ron and Riccio are in cahoots?

#2 ITA, he had to come up with $37,500.00 cash this time to get out, from my understanding it had to be his money. (does that leave the friends money out of this equasion?) Plus he had to put his home up. Now that alone must have been a hard egg to swallow.
#3 When OJ was released the first time, conditions was he was not suppose to talk to any of the witness either on his own or thru 3rd parties. Since he ask his BB to talk to one, he violated those conditions.
Question now can he keep his mouth shut until April 7th? Time will only tell, what Judge Clark said to him was right on, must have been the first time in OJ life that someone wasn’t up his rear and told him how it was going to be. From watching OJ’s expression and hearing him try to answer, it did appear he was caught way off guard, as he barely could speak. Kuddo’s to Judge Clark. She seems to be a very fair Judge. MOO

Maybe this judge will get her own t.v. show. She sure made an impression, the camera was there and her “rehearsed words” were CUTE. O.J. was found NOT GUILTY of the murders - NOT GUILTY OF THOSE MURDERS but guilty of wrongful death. Who got it right? This I know for sure - a lot of people have built careers and fortunes riding on the back of O. J. Simpson not to mention the 15 minutes of fame for countless others.
lynp….. I agree with your comments and I hope you are right.
hmm………good question!
Joy said…….”Poor O.J”. I agree.

Donna OJ putup his home as collateral and had to come up with around 37,000 in cash.I don’t think much of Ron Goldman so won’t say anything else.

Missy m, yes, it bugs me. I detest OJ. I believe he is guilty of slaughtering two innocent people in cold blood. This man needs to pay.

I wonder how Howard is doing. Isn’t the inquest soon? Wonder if he’ll be there. It’s also getting near the first anniversary of Anna’s death. This must be so hard on Howard.
My prayers are for him and Dannielynn, always.

I can now translate ‘framed’ pages.
Please tell me it ain’t so.

#10 Freida, doesn’t really matter who was in cahoots. OJ is above the age of 40 and old enough to take responsibility for his own actions. He had choices, he however at this point and time made a bad decision. He has no one to blame other than himself, the same way you and I live we have no one but ourselves to blame for our own actions.

I think he was set-up, and I think he’ll never get a fair trial, I don’t think anyone can forget the past, I think people feel sorry for him, I think he’s a great guy when he’s sober, I think he played great football, I think he was not alone that night once upon a time, more than 10 years ago.
I think lawyers, and the legal system, has loopholes and although it’s not the best system, it’s the best we’ve got.
I think too, much.
You can lead a horse to water, but you can’t make them drink…
The lawyers and their arguments, and so-called ‘dream teams’ and Johnny Cochrin’s, in this case, ran that pig skin all the way…touchdown.
Did I spell Johnny’s name right?
Oh, well if they had found him (alone) guilty, would that have been right, would that be justice?
There was after all a shadow of doubt…
What drug was he on, and did he act alone?
Only the Akita (sp?) knows.
Forecast for the future, eventually OJ will die, of old age…
He will always be remembered for his past…the good, the bad and the ugly.
Guess that’s enough.

This ain’t right.
