At the Bahamas inquest Tuesday into the death of reality television star Anna Nicole Smith’s son, witnesses fleshed out the emerging portrait of a shy, troubled 20-year-old once admitted to intensive care for a valium “misuse” whose death came about from an “intentional” overdose of methadone, according to the lab director for Miami’s Dade County Medical Examiner.

Dr. Lee Hearn didn’t come out and say he believed it was suicide, just that Daniel Smith, 20, died after taking too much methadone in a short time span, according to press accounts and others in the courtroom. Heath Ledger’s body was winging home to Australia late Sunday, with plans to bury him in his hometown of Perth, according to news accounts.

Earlier, ex-girlfriend and fellow Australian Naomi Watts and the mother of his daughter, Michelle Williams, who met him on the set of Brokeback Mountain, were among mourners at a private memorial service in Los Angeles, followed by dinner with his parents and close friends at The Beverly Hills Hotel, celeb news sites were reporting Sunday. A day after his landslide victory in the South Carolina Democratic primary, Senator Barack Obama won another surprise endorsement from the princess of an American political dynasty — Caroline Kennedy.

The daughter of the late President, who energized the nation as a symbol of youth, passion and hope before he died form an assassin’s bullet in a Texas motorcade, wrote in Sunday’s New York Times that Obama reminded her of her late father, and the ideals he believed in. With Heath Ledger’s devastated parents flying in from his native Australia to New York Friday for a pending funeral, the gifted actor’s death at 28 of a possible accidental drug overdose hits Hollywood in the gut, and resurrects the ghosts of Marylin Monroe, John Belushi, River Phoenix, Chris Farley, Janice Joplin, Jimmy Hendrix, Jim Morrison and so many others.

“It feels like an epidemic,” acclaimed forensic pathologist Cyril Wecht tells The Bald Truth in an exclusive interview. “This is Anna Nicole revisited, her son, Daniel, probably actor Brad Renfro and now Heath Ledger.”

With 28-year-old Oscar-contender Heath Ledger found dead of a possible accidental overdose in his SoHo apartment in New York City, police sources said Wednesday two prescribed anti-anxiety drugs, valium, and xanex were found, along with the sleeping aide, Ambien, and WCBS2 reported a rolled-up $20 bill near the naked body of the brilliant actor.

Police were refuting, via the Associated Press, a story that heroin or cocaine had been found, said autopsy results were inconclusive and gave ten days for toxicology work to come back. Read the rest of this entry »

Commercial for Vegas Bail: Owner Jasen Raesbeck Sprung O. J. Simpson

With so many colorful bail bonding companies in ‘Vegas beckoning The Busted with show biz names like Godfather’s, Goodfellas, Ba-Da-Bing, Jailbreak, Jailbusters, Bad Boys, Almost Free, Already Out, we had to ask, how did O.J. Simpson find one named simply, “Vegas Bail?”

Answer: he didn’t. Vegas found him, with its colorful mantra, “if you’re in jail, we’ll make your bail,” and campy TV commercials spoofing Dog The Bounty Hunter busting everyone from bimbos to Barney, owner Jasen Reasbeck figured Simpson needed a stand-up guy.

“I said, ‘Hey, O.J. lost his bondsman,’ and told my wife, Candace, ‘let’s call his lawyer. He needs some help,’” said Reasbeck in an exclusive interview with The Bald Truth. O.J. Simpson traded in his jail jumpsuit for a sports shirt to fly home to Miami on Thursday, a day after an angry Las Vegas judge jacked up bail on armed robbery charges to $250,000, allowing the disgraced footballer to stay out of jail while he awaits trial for the alleged hotel heist that put him behind bars last year.

“I don’t know if it’s just arrogance. I don’t know if it’s ignorance,” frowned Clark County District Court Judge Jackie Glass. “But you’ve been locked up at the Clark County Detention Center since Friday (Jan. 11) because of arrogance or ignorance — or both.”

Late Wednesday, Simpson, 60, posted his new bond — double what he’d put put up last September–and walked free, again, six days after he was picked up and transferred to Nevada for violating terms of his release. Read the rest of this entry »
