Howard K. Stern Describes Emotional Toll Inquest Taking

My sources inside the inquest Monday in Nassau say a pathologist who did the official autopsy on Daniel Smith confirmed findings by Dr. Cyril Wecht that the son of Anna Nicole Smith died from a lethal drug combo of methadone and two anti depressants.
Working from the same toxicology reports as Wecht, the private pathologist hired to do an independent autopsy by Daniel’s mother, Dr. Govinda Raju said the 20 year old could have died within five hours after ingesting the drugs, reports Bald Truth special correspondent Lincoln Bain who sat in on the hearing.
Family members have said Daniel was suffering back pain and depression, and that a physician had prescribed the two anti-depressants, Zoloft and Lexapro, but where the son of the ex Playboy centerfold got the methadone remains a mystery. Sources close to the family fear he purloined the pills from his mother’s prescribed medications.
According to her doctors and family friends, she had totally weaned herself off the heroin substitute for her own painful conditions before Dannielynn was born, and her own autopsy reported the drug was found only in minute quanties in her bile.
In her son’s death, police investigators in the Bahamas have found no evidence of foul play, and the death has so far been considered accidental. Other drugs like the sleeping pill, Ambien, were also reportedly found in his system, but not tied to his death.
According to Bain, Howard K. Stern, Anna Nicole’s lawyer and longtime companion, appeared to be paying close attention, as his attorney, Wayne Munroe, cited back pain and depression as the reason Daniel was taking drugs.
According to my courtroom observers, a patient in a nearby room testified she heard Anna Nicole screaming, but had no idea why she was screaming, or what time or how long the wail of grief went on before she was sedated and removed from the room.
Stern is expected to be the last witness scheduled to testify Wednesday, after the two nannies who worked for Anna Nicole. Also on the witness list are Ford Shelley and G. Ben Thompson, the South Carolina real estate developers who claimed ownership to Horizons, but dropped their lawsuit for title.
Inside the courthouse, Bain reported little drama as he sat behind Virgie Arthur, the dead centerfold’s mother who scribbled notes with a yellow flower pen, Neil McCabe, her Texas lawyer, and her chief investigative consultant Don Clark, former FBI agent. Two older women, suspected bloggers sources tell me were flown in to report for Team Virgie, were observed nearby.
For Bain, the dramatic high point came before the third day of the inquest even began, when he had an awkward but cordial run-in with Virgie Arthur’s attorney and Clark.
On a recent Geraldo show, the duo clashed over Rita Cosby’s reported claim that Clark was the source of her salacious book, Blonde Ambition, with Bain, a local talk show host and former Bahamian cop, calling Clark a liar for denying it.
“He was very friendly,” Bain told me in an exclusive phone call from the Bahamas. “He came up and said, ‘Hi,’ and shook my hand.
“I said, ‘Hey, Don, what’s up? I said, ‘Rita really screwed you over, didn’t she?”
“Yeah,” replied Clark, according to Bain, ‘but I’m ready for war, and I’ve been to war before.”
Before he joined the FBI, retiring after 25 years as an agent and bureau chief, Clark did a stint in Vietnam with the U.S. Army, and earned a bronze star, but Bain was unclear what he meant by his war quip.
Meanwhile, Bain said McCabe joked that “you’re wearing shoes today, Lincoln.’ I didn’t take it personally because I usually wear designer slippers.”
A small group of Mr. Controversy fans watched the encounter, mouths agape, until one sidled up to Bain, who said they were incredulous at what they’d just witnessed.
“He asked me, ‘How could you say hello to that guy who told lies on you?’ I said, ‘Hey, he’s a friendly guy, but the kind of guy who will smile in your face and put a knife in your back. I don’t take it personally. He can say what he wants to say, and do what he wants to do.
“I said, if he wants to tell lies, that’s between him and his God and his conscience. But his lies are being found out now. When you’re winning, you’re happy, and I’m happy right now.”
Clark has maintained, in numerous interviews, he is telling the truth when he reports he met with Anna Nicole Smith’s nannies and heard them confirm accounts Anna watched a gay sex tape showing Stern with Larry Birkhead–and maintains that he is “nobody’s source.”
Both men Stern and Birkhead deny it ever happened, and the nannies, via their attorney, Elizabeth Thompson, say they never discussed what Clark or his investigative sidekick, Wilma Vicedomine, have said they heard in a Bahamas meeting.
That alleged gay sex escapade is at the center of a $60 million dollar libel suit Stern has filed against Cosby and her publisher; Cosby reported in her book it came from a so called friend of Anna Nicole’s, Jackie Hatten, and two investigators. No such tape as ever surfaced.

hi art. great reporting to you and mr. bain. look i didn’t think the nannies were going to testify because they weren’t there and never met daniel. i believe the nannies when they said rita tried to bribe them, but don’t believe them when it comes to the so called drugs they were told to give anna every 4 hours. dr. kris was there at that time and i do believe either she or howard would have taken care of anna and i don’t believe they would want to wake anna every four hrs.i don’t believe they fed her drugs. i really hope they don’t testify because i believe vergie lawyer would try and get them to say negative things about anna and howard and make them the scrape goat.
if daniel took this medicine within five hrs before his death, all the witnesses who saw daniel that night report that howard was asleep when they walked into the room. daniel was seen taken care of anna so that should clear howard. don’t u agree? two, i believe it was told that the methodone found in his system were tablet form where anna took the liquid form of methodone and was weaned off of it before dannielynn was born. so who could have given it to him. ford shelly or g. ben thompson?

IMO, it is pretty digusting to me that she would be doing such a thing during the inquest! Yeah, Yeah, we know…O’Q is doing it pro bono BUT, good ole Virg probably had to sign a contract anyway in case she ever gets the ability to pay. I predict that flowered pen will show up on ebay in the future…LOL I wouldn’t bid on it…it is EVIL!

You know,I am beginning to love MR BAIN,THIS MAN IS ONE SMART PERSON.They(team virgie) are trying to butter up,and play nice before the knife gets in the back.Snakes shed,they do not change.From what I have read,seems like they all are trying to go back and forth,puting the blame here and there,as to stall any court decision.time for polygraph.If danniel got the methdone from his mother,he would have had to drink it hers was liquid.i got the FBI address,and tomorrow will mail my letter to MR muller,i do not know if it will get attention,but i will try.

I’m so glad they are going forward with this case. I really can’t believe that ANYONE intended to do Daniel harm, or that Daniel intentionally harmed himself. It was all a tragic mistake, and no criminal charges will be filed.

I though that Anna’s methadone was in liquid form – not pills. I think they give out liquid methadone in the clinics. Anyone know for sure??

It is heart breaking” when a young person die’ at a time when he is just being to live his life. I really feel sad for Howard because Daniel was like a son to him, and then he lost Anna the love of his life and his baby girl was taken from him. Howard must be a strong man that’s good because I know one day Danielynn is going to need him. Anna’s love will always live in Howard and Danielynn. Anna die knowing that Howard will always be there for her little angel. I hope the inguest will bring some peace!

Hey Art no surprises that the dose was lethal, however it seems this back problem was an issue for Anna too, with her pain and suffering wonder if it was genetic?
The methadone unless there was a tracking system on the pill, no one is ever going to know how he got it in his system along with the other pills that he took.
Now that issue with Mr. Clarke and his remarks about war, well Mr. Clarke did you ever read the novel “the art of war”? Rule number one never say something that can be held against you written or otherwise. You never know who will come out and challenge you about your big dirty mouth.
Mr. Clarke perhaps you had a senior moment when you spoke to those imaginary women, and forgot who you spoke to you about this alleged video is that a possibility? I guess people at your age have those forgetting moments, or maybe you accidently dreamed it and in the course of the medication that you were taking, this could be your best alibi for explanation to the judge once you are called up to testify. Even though you are a poor excuse for a human being, after concocting this disgusting story about two innocent people, an repeating it to anyone who would listen shameful didn’t your Momma teach you bout gossiping in a malicious way? Simple bad upbringing that is all.
Apparently the Anna story is still the number 2 story in the headlines for 2007. Poor sweet Anna last year she was buying pressies for baby Danilynn, and mourning her beloved son. Virgie scribbling with yet another flower pin, McCabe making comments about Lincoln’s shoes, Clark and his questionable comments, Lincoln taking everything in like a real gentlemen. I wonder what transpired today with the witnesses that were called to the stand. It sounds like Wednesday will be the last day in the inquest because Howard K. Stern was to be the last witness to testify. I doubt Ben Thompson and Ford Shelly will show up at all. I like Lincoln Bain.

Oh Art! They are other reorts that their were 8 drugs in his system, not just 3 like Cyril Wecht reported. I’m hoping the truth to be revealed. I admire Virgie for being there in support of her family. Yeah, she lost control of her daughters life, but I do feel she still have love for her. We are getting closer everyday to knowing what happened to Daniel. I beleive Howard has been telling the truth all along, I just don’t know what team Texas will come up with once this is proven. I imagine it will be to go after Larry even more than there are now.
Being the good old Texas boys aren’t used to seeing men in designer slippers, they always have their cowboy boots No matter if they are caught with their pants down they still have their good old shitkickers on, they go with everything in Texas suits, jeans, shorts, bathing suits and yes even just boots and a cowboy hat, imagine that!!!! Good luck today and tomorrow in the Inquest, as I know it will turn out just fine. Maybe a little emotional going over everything again, but justice will prevail for Howard, as it is already starting to slowly but surely. Karma baby. What in the heck are bloggers doing there in the first place? Someone needs to take that pen out of VA hand. Is she taking notes for the second go around on yet another trashy book? How can she smear her daughters name like that and be proud of it?

I just love it whan reported “facts” are shot down with the truth! I do not know Howard but my heart and mind really feel for him – the slander he has been put through! NO ONE deserves what has been done to him.
Guess ‘ol vergie is going to write her own book – maybe she will call it “The Flowered Pen”. Hope she learns a lesson from what Rita is going through. Somehow, I don’t think so.

My prayers go out to Howard at this time.The inquest must bring back many painful memories that he would rather not have to face again ,as he was there when it happened.Someday things will get a little better,even though you rright now don’t think so.If just reading about what happened made me cry It has to be many times wore for Howard.Many things are comming ou and proving the never ending bloogsphere was most certainly outright liying about what was said and one in that roon back when.I would Hope VA is taking note and realising she is in the wrong,but I don’t think so.

So danny took meds 4-6 hours before he died,that would be @3am-5am est…werent Howard and Anna alsleep then?Danny may have felt like shit,back hurting ,couldnt sleep because of the Zoloft and took and Ambien sleep pill and cut a methodone tab in half and ingested it. poor kid.Dont mix meds people!!He never woke up becaue of the Ambien and died quietly in his sleep.

I remember a blogger on here said earlier that someone who worked for Anne wrote on the TMZ website that it would not be the first time that Daniel took/stole some of his mother’s drugs. She cited another incident where it happened during the time she worked for Anne.

hi art. it was reported that anna took methadone in the liquid form not tablets. so daniel couldn’t have gotten the meds from her or howard. i believe he took it before he left for the bahamas. are maybe the other person in the room the gray haired guy (blonde) gave it to him while howard went to get food. i can’t believe they don’t have the tape for the morning of his death. i believe howard will not be charged for anything. daniel took to much meds and died tragically of an overdose. if daniel was scared of howard why would he want to stay with them for 90 days. it doesn’t make sense. howard and daniel were close.

I had long thought that Daniel’s death was just as was reported…accidental. The drugs that he was on were serious enough that they should have been handled with care and clearly they were not. Why anyone but the most terminally ill patients should be on THAT MANY drugs is beyond me. I hope that with his death as well as the death of his mother broadcast for the world to see that people who might currently be abusing prescription drugs curtail their activities so that soem good can come from this. In other news, if I was Don Clark I would move far far away from all of this and never get involved again. Lincoln Bain and that crafty attorney from the Bahamas are outfoxing them all and look to be the only logical and truthful people in this whole saga. To break it down we now have Rita claiming her sources were Don Clark and Jackie Hatten, when Don Clark says he is not the source and Jackie Hatten is a raving lunatic. Rita is going down and Don is appearing more laughable by the day.
