Bald Truth Exclusive: Inside Daniel Smith Inquest; Nannies Called Irrelevant, May Not Testify

Mystery bruises found on Daniel Smith’s body were apparently caused by hospital personnel desperately trying to save the life of Anna Nicole Smith’s son as they drew blood and urine samples to diagnose why he was unconscious, with no pulse, said witnesses who testified Tuesday in the Bahamas inquest into his death Sept. 10, 2006.
It was 9:40 a.m., when a “code blue” scrambled doctors and nurses. They found a hysterical former Playboy centerfold holding tight to her son who had been curled up in his mother’s hospital bed sleeping, nurses testified.
That’s where nursing assistant Francis Woodside said she had seen Daniel at 6 a.m., according to Bald Truth Special Correspondent Lincoln Bain, court watchers and others I spoke with about Tuesday’s inquest.
Smith’s attorney and partner Howard K. Stern was asleep in a bed in the same room at Doctor’s Hospital.
Three days earlier, Anna Nicole had given birth to baby Dannielynn.
An earlier Royal Bahamian police investigation concluded no evidence of foul play, but an inquest was called to explore if any evidence would suggest the need for a criminal trial.
An autopsy ruled his death an accidental drug interaction between methadone, and two anti-depressants.
Under questioning from Virgie Arthur’s attorney—after PI Don Clark, a former FBI agent, was seen slipping him a note–one nurse said she had found two white pills in the second bed of the room.
But Stern attorney Wayne Munroe, in what some called a “Perry Mason moment” established contradictions in the nurses stories. One said she wrapped the pills in tissue and gave it to a second nurse, who recalled the pills were handed over in a plastic bag.
“Did you tell police in your statement that there was another nurse who saw you with the pills?” Munroe asked one of the nurses.
“No,” she said.
“Don’t you think that would have been important?” asked Munroe, suggesting how could they treat someone unconscious without enough knowledge of what might be in their system.
But the big news is the nannies may not testify, sources tell me. It didn’t’ come up in open court, but in a conference among the lawyers.
Wayne Munroe challenged whether what they might have to say about Daniel was even relevant, since they never did come to hospital.
While nothing was decided, the nannies’ attorney, Elizabeth Thompson, told me that it doesn’t really matter to her either way, and would make her life a lot easier if “I didn’t have to come to court.”
The nannies are among some 35 witnesses on the list who could be called. The inquest resumes Dec. 10.

The nannies have nothing to add to the inquest anyway. They never met Daniel. They admitted making stories up…dodgy. They ought to be taken off the list.

hi art. thanks for the update. the nursing assistant to clear howard of any wrong doing because she stated she saw daniel at 6am and howard was asleep in the next bed. people hope realize that howard would never hurt anna or daniel. i can’t believe they even allow vergie arthor to have a lawyer there, because she hadn’t seen him in 14 years.why is don clark handing anything to the attorney while she is asking questions. i think he is trying to influence the jury because he is an former fbi agent turned pi. please send my thoughts to howard and his family and larry and dannielynn. they are not alone. hope vergie will finally go home and give up. she has no standing where dannielynn is concerned. when is the next custody hearing.

I’m sure they weren’t close. I’m not sure he wasn’t blaming her for Daniel’s death. She was starting to put two and two together. Howard wasn’t sure she would play it straight at the upcoming inquest. Maybe she would flip out like she has done in the past in Court. He was losing control.
All her late appearances were “ugly messes”. The world would see that she was a druggie……….but Howard never went for help for her….AND HE WAS HER HUSBAND AND FATHER ???? OF HER CHILD. That’s abuse…at the least.

As for some ex FBI agents turned PIs, I know alot of top notch guys who took that route, honorable as always. But some march to different drummers when they are paid for results, even if it means twisting facts and arm-twisting law enforcement pals to become true believers in their fiction.

If you’re gagging on the Koolaid, though, there is an antidote, but you’ve got to act fast.
Jump ship. Take off your blinders. Do the next right thing, and admit you were conned.

Virgie and company are all just wasting their and everyone else’s time. They are going to do everything in their power to play this for all they can get out of it, just like they did during the Florida hearing and funeral of Anna. They all remind me of a bunch of rats scurring around in the dark, crawling over each other for the last morsel. They are so pathetic.
Virgie just wants more so-called fame and doesn’t care what she has to do or who she has to stomp over, to get it. She is such a disgusting person, as are everyone else in this saga, excepting Howard, of course.
He has stayed out of the limelight and has been working quietly behind the scenes all this time. True class,(take some notes here Virgie).

December 10th o geeze Louise, I hate the wait. In any case Art for all these months you are doing a fantastic job keeping us all informed otherwise we would not know anything.
I am concerned about something in this inquest so far, the pills found in the bed and the nurse’s reluctance to report it. Wonder why she did that, medically speaking she is responsible to report that and there was no knowledge of it anywhere, can this added to evidence at such a late date? At this point would it not be heresay unless the evidence is still around?
Howard give that Virgie some preperation H it will work two ways, one for her wrinkles,tell her not to use so much otherwise her squint will be worse, and that other problem she is being called these days a real roid.Or as I say a royal PITA>>>> pain in the a@@…

I agree, the nannies aren’t necessary. They were not there. Where’s the good ‘ole SC crew??
I’m not saying the system there is wrong….but this is all so unnecessary. This was obviously a tragic accident. It would never have come to this had Virgie not been running around saying “murder” and her grandson she hadn’t seen or even talked to in quite some time “didn’t do drugs”….
Poor Howard, having to relive all of this. I hope he can spend some good, quiet, quality time with his wonderful family this Thanksgiving.

In just 2 days of limited testimony I think we have learned much about why Anna was so depressed and deeply troubled in the days, weeks and even months following Daniel’s death. It seems apparent that Daniel was in bed with Anna when he died….she must have been horribly traumatized by waking up and finding him dead in her bed with her. I can’t imagine who WOULDN’T need a tranquilizer after THAT waking nightmare.
And what was going on in Daniel’s mind? Was he depressed and feeling pushed aside by Anna and the baby and coping with more pills? Were his hospitalizations in the 2 months before he died really for a physical issue or were his symptoms manifestations of depression? Was his purported “stomach and back pain” of the emotional variety? Was he clinging to Anna physically and emotionally upon their reunion and continuing to feel alone (classic depression) ? Was the break up he was grieving really with a girlfriend, or with his only child status with his mother?
Because of Virgie and the chaotic upbringing and instability in her formative years Anna was not emotionally whole and healthy herself, and I fear she passed along some of her insecurity to Daniel, who may have felt ill-equipped to handle the change in status from being with Anna, childhood “all and only” to living apart, adult and “big brother”. While Anna thrived on being the center of attention, Daniel always looked a bit overwhelmed and reluctant. There is no doubt he thought Anna the bigger than life center of his world but he was not comfortable in the spotlight with her. Sharing her with Howard, her paramours, her public and her unusual cadre of hangers-on and friends must have been at times challenging and frustrating for him. Perhaps with Anna moving so far away and at the same time expecting (and focused on) a baby, Daniel found himself feeling truly alone and without her for the 1st time in his life. Maybe he lost his way and found himself increasingly in need of pills to cope….so sad, for him, for Anna, for Dannilynn and for the “last man standing” — Howard.
It’s so tragic that the same overwhelming sadness that may have led to Daniel’s inadvertent OD, eventually may have consumed Anna as well. I truly believe Anna may have died from an OD, but only because her heart was already broken in pieces.

My thoughts are; what in heavens name is McCabe (lawyer) doing there? Why is McCabe taking direction from a man who has proved that he is doing everything he can to make people think bad about Howard. Clark seems to be taking this personally, he is trying to discredit Howard as it is O’Quinn who pays him…but I wonder how come he seems to make this his life’s mission, what has Howard and his family ever done to him?
There are bloggers out there that really believe that Don Clark’s people have paid the nurses, just like it was proven that Ford Shelley paid the nannies to say things that weren’t true.

This is my take on all of this. I believe the SC gang gave Daniel the pills because Daniel was in pain. Not knowing he had meds in him already. I think Anna confronted them and thought they did this. That is why just day’s after Daniels death theycame to her home and started the fight over the Horizon. Knowing Anna might finger them they would have an defence by saying, SHE IS ONLY SAYING THIS ABOUT US BECAUSE OF THE FIGHT OVER US WANTING OUR HOME BACK. I could never understand why they didn’t give Anna a month or two before they hit her up on the Horizon, no time for her to grive, they set plan in motion. They need to pass the buck to Howard to get them off the radar. They say Anna was druged up and Howard was a pill pusher, but they let their daughter spend the night over at Anna home many times. What parent would let their child stay in a home knowing the person there was SO DRUGED UP. Now we have the breakin, they took her computer and dairies and other stuff. The computer was given back (they say) but not the daries. I beleive Ann wrote in the dairies about Daniels death and named names. SC gang have yet to give them to Larry,and I bet Larry will never see them either. If Ann named Howard as being responsible for Daniel’s death in the daires you can bet Tompson couldn’t get fast enough to the media to show them. There are two things you will never see the dairies and the whole clown tape. Anna was not a druged up women, she worked, did photo shoots, trim spa comercials, personel appearances, raised Daniel and a host of other things. But when Opri, Larry, Virgie, Jackie Hatten,Mark Hatten and then her so called friens the SC gang came after her in the news and law suits she needed help. And she took meds to get her through. I put all of them in blame for her death. What they did to this women is a crime. And now they want to continue this war hunt on Howard and Larry for the all mighty buck. What a shame you can get away with this in the UNITED STATES, they all should be put in jail.

Dear Nurse:
Human beings are flawed. Being a “respected FBI agent” does not make one flawless. Treat yourself to a visit to the prison where they incarcerate the white color criminals and feast your eyes on a variety of “respected” men and women who strayed because money was so enticing, they ceased to use their common sense.
If you are actually a nurse, you surely must be familiar with respected medical professionals who behave like children throwing tantrums when they do not get their way. You may also have come across a few highly regarded surgeons who happen to accidentally rub their nose on “cooking flower” or “sugar,” or who after mistakenly drinking water from the wrong glass, found themselves inebriated.
A recent example is the plastic surgeon whose career has seen a few malpractice suits and drunken driving occurrences.
After Mr. Clark’s tirade on TV and the uncertainty of whether or not he was on Nanny patrol, why would anyone not have doubts about him?
O’Quinn’s resume may look impressive, and he may be as tall as the towering inferno, but check on those lawsuits that were so profitable to him, yet bankrupted people, and ask yourself whether he is truly a bleeding heart for grandmothers who suddenly realize they love their grandchildren.
It is time for you to check on that patient who has been buzzing the station. By now she must be ready for her last rights.

hi art. happy thanksgivings. look one nurse said she found two pills , when the other nurse remembers only one pill but didn;t know who bed is was found in. why didn’t she give this information to the police. i think mr. monroe did a great job. how can this be enter as evidence when they don’t know how the evidence was collected and who hands were on them. from what i have read so far no one is to blame for daniel’s death. it was a tragic accident. please wish howard and family , larry and dannielynn and family a happy thanksgiving. i hope larry doesn’t allow vergie to visit, her actions clearly show she doesn’t have dannielynn best interest at heart.

Question: Do dead bodies bruise?
Answer: Yes, if they haven’t been dead long. Bruises are blood from broken capillaries that seeps into surrounding tissues and clots under the skin. Since the blood is no longer pumping once the heart stops, it doesn’t seep as much…but it does seep. It is possible, by the way, to determine whether a bruise was inflicted before or after death, but it takes a microscopic examination. A bruise inflicted after death will contain the normal count of white blood cells; no more. But a bruise inflicted during life will contain an abnormally high number of white cells. Why? Because white cells move to the site of an injury to start the healing process. But only while you’re alive. Once you die, that’s it for healing.

I think I know why someone in the minority like Art Harris might be discounted: Could it be that he doesn’t seem to fit the pattern in this case?
After all, the Faux News network, where the majority of dirty deeds has taken place, seems to favor a certain former “alpha-better” P.I. and spinner for sale. Ans the conglomeration run by David Pecker also too caters to yet another former “alpha-better” shill/P.I. and commentator for hire.!

Granted that Greta, Geraldo and others who come down so hard on Howard, are mere employees appeasing their employers — but — those who are willing to compromise their integrity in order to destroy the life of an innocent person, cannot possess strong integrity, in my opinion. How is one person’s ability to be over-gainfully employed more important than the life and liberty of another human being? Ego, greed or plain cruelness surrounding an icy heart?

WOW, Art I thoroughly enjoyed your reply to nurse! BRAVO. Is she from the site where I read that they had two petitions to boycott the Bahamas? The ones who probably cannot afford to go their anyway but like to stir the pot and keep trouble going. Total garbage over there at that site and several others as well. I personally have been to the Bahamas several times and they are wonderful people, just like we are. There are good and bad in every state and country. We should all let the Bahamian folks know, again, how the rest of world feels about them and their beautiful country. The ones who really count and can afford to go their on their own nickel! The real tourist who travel a lot.
I would like to see more of why certain people are at the Inquest. Do they have any business there? Why are they not thrown out yet? JMHO, As a mother I would be rearranging my thoughts and energy by now about what happened and spend more time after the real culprits and go after then with full force. That’s only of course if they want to real facts and truths, or is it just about money? Very sad.

Now he/she has to think of a good response. And they have such a limited capacity to think for themselves. All they can say is “howard killed Anne and Danny, Howard drugged Anne”, bla bla bla. Oquin and Virgie have to come up with new accussations for the zombies, because they have been stuck on the same old song all these months and cannot come up with anything new. Waiting on orders from the cheerleaders. I am sure they will forward your response to Oquin for advice and will return with the same old boring song. Cause Oquin is definitely not the brilliant lawyer they want us to believe. Wicked yes.

Hi number 46 Donna. I understand your hatred for Art, it really has to suck that he isn’t candy coating stuff and bending over backwards to support your idol Virgie Arthur. I never once wondered where the bruises on Daniel’s body came from after reading how frantic Anna was and the doctors were trying desperately to revive him. That’s common sense that during the resuscitation efforts, it very well could happen. Everybody jumped to negative conclusions especially when the thought of getting Howard in trouble seemed likely. Well, I think they can back down off the bs because it’s not going to happen they way they planned. They (Team Devils) can get ready to bid the Bahamas farewell and leave Howard to grieve and get on with his life as best as he can. How in the hell can they live with themselves after putting this man through all of this hell?

Why did you NOT capitalize the name Donna? Proper names are always capitalized unless you feel worthless, in which case you feel that even a capital letter is much too worthy for you. To Sun: What you say sounds very plausible. It’s always been my theory that Ford Shelley, could have given Daniel the Methodone. He was always protesting far too much, like he was guilty of something and trying so desperately to cover it up, by lashing out so viciously at Howard.
If he did give it to him, I don’t believe he meant to kill him though, at least I hope not. But there still is something about Shelley that is bothering me very much (and has from the beginning) and I just can’t shake it. I hope he has been thoroughly investigated. I think Shelley is really creepy.

Thats a great queston EJ. They must truly have no souls. To go and blame Howard for Daniel’s death right after Daniel died when anna came out and said more than once that howard and her baby was the only thing that kept her going. Then to try to trick here into signing a misleading mortage when she is still wracked with greif and to try to kick her out home right after she fianlly bried her beloved son, cut off the electrity with an infant baby in the house. Break into her house the day after she died and still private home videos! (one of Anna learning how to breastfeed DL) paintings, DL’s BC.

I hope Anna didnt find out something about him like maybe the money for the house was actually drug money GBT had stashed away when he was in prison for drug smuggling ,and used Anna to launder it. Did she tell Daniel or did he do some internet searching himself and find out? Was there any conversations between Daniel and Ford at the hospital when Howard went to get food for everyone? Was Ford lurking around Daniels drink? Was Shane Gibson investigating the SC crew?

Good for all of you who put “just a nurse” in her place. I spent 20years as a hospital nurse, and another FIVE as a nurse death investigator. I’m willing to bet the bruise “in the groin” I heard somewhere thats where it was, was probable the reasult of an attempt to draw blood for bloog gases. It’s an arterial stick, and even post mortum can ooze. CPR circulates blood. That’s why it’s performed!
Anyway there was an autopsy, and any marks on the body are discected so the pathologist knows whar caused them and how old they are.
