Rita Cosby, Virgie Arthur’s Lawyer, Discuss “Evidence” Suggesting Stern Guilt

When her Anna Nicole shocker, Blonde Ambition, hit bookstores in September, Rita Cosby says she had “no serious doubts” about its accuracy, stands by her New York Times bestseller and says passages under fire “must be understood in the context of the entire Book.”
While she defends her reporting that suggests Howard K. Stern was allegedly responsible for the deaths of Anna Nicole Smith and son, Daniel, 20, she “admits that no criminal charges have been publically identified in connection with the death of Daniel Smith.”
Whatever that legalese means, it’s all in Cosby’s official answer to Stern’s $60 million libel she filed last week in federal court in New York, a 40-page response obtained exclusively by The Bald Truth cosby-libel-suit-response-11-13-07.pdf .
If Cosby means Florida authorities ruled out homicide or any crime behind the death of the ex Playboy centerfold, she’s right. As everyone knows, including Rita, it was ruled an accidental overdose by the Broward medical examiner; law enforcement sources also tell me local prosecutors have since rebuffed attempts to reopen the case by Virgie Arthur investigator Don Clark (reported to be a Cosby source, though he publically denied it on Geraldo).
“We asked him, ‘Where’s the beef?’” said my source, “but he didn’t have any new evidence.”
Now comes The Inquest into the death of Anna Nicole’s son, Daniel, with the Royal Bahamian police so far finding no evidence to suggest foul play, either, though Stern critics with alleged financial motives, from Virgie Arthur to developer G. Ben Thompson and son in law Ford Shelley have been relentless in whipping up a frenzy of suspicion in trial by talk show.
Meanwhile, in her 40-page answer to Stern’s libel suit, filed Nov. 13 in U.S. District Court, Cosby defends her gay sex tape allegations about Stern and Birkhead, but concedes her accounts didn’t come directly from the purported eye witnesses, Anna Nicole’s nannies who, Cosby writes, saw Howard and Larry “doing that thing,” but from an investigator working for Arthur’s lawyer, John O’Quinn. Stern has sued him for defamation for blasting him as a murderer on national television.
The nannies, and their attorney, have since denied they ever discussed such a tape with anyone, including the investigators who did meet them. An audiotape introduced as evidence in the case shows Cosby attempting to pay the nannies for a sworn statement to back up her reporting.
She also defends her reporting about a Bahamian employee at the house “who became (Anna’s) confidante,” she writes in the book. “Later he told me that Howard never treated her right,” abused her and that she feared him.
Only she apparently never talked to that dude either, she admits, even though Cosby writes that “later he told me…” So who is “me,” if not Cosby?
In fact, my sources tell me the only male employee at Horizons was a gardner named Pierre, a Haitian, who speaks Creole, rarely came in the house and never said more than a few words to Anna.
Another mystery, I guess.
So, as I sit here, reading Cosby’s defense of her reporting, I hear Anna Nicole’s voice in the background. My wife has popped in a dvd of the Anna Nicole Show, research, and I can’t help but see the characters in question come to life, their crazy chemstry…Anna and Howard, but mostly Anna, acting outrageous, over the top, falling over couches, Sugar Pie humping a stuffed animal, Daniel enduring it all, an American family that helped put reality tv on the map.
It’s funny…in a raunchy-cute way, the fun couple in Vegas, partying with strippers, Anna and Howard both feeling the texture of dancers’ breasts as future research, perhaps.
It’s also sad that the uninhibited energy emoted by the bombshell of reinvention…is gone. And that Stern will be struggling, maybe even Virgie, too, as they hear a rehash of the final days of mother and son, the clincal reports of the docs and the cops…as witnesses testify at the Bahamas inquest Monday.
I’m also wondering if a saavy lawyer might introduce the show tapes as evidence of the weird showbiz glue that kept Anna rolling and the show going, and describes what Ford Shelley has even admitted to me and others: that Stern truly loved Anna and Daniel and would never harm them. Not that he’s saying that now, but he’s got almost a million dollars on the line in a house he claims she agreed to pay for, but lost claim to when his father in law dropped a lawsuit for title.
One thing Anna does say on one episode a jury might contemplate: how she felt betrayed by so many men in her life, no matter what anyone says about Stern, “he’s the only man I’ve ever trusted.”

So I read the whole thing and I saw that Rita doesnt even know the identity of the male employee of Annas who she claims in her book said Howard treated her badly and she was afraid of him. Sounds like Jack Harding..lmao…I aslo saw Rita’s atty’s are asking the suit be dismissed and she be awarded atty costs..LMFAOO

If this wasn’t so serious, it would be too funny how Rita denies, denies and denies. She can deny all she wants, but she’s going to get exactly what she deserves. What a slanderous piece of sh*t she is. I have believed for a while that O’Quinn’s team conspired to do whatever it takes to get Howard. It has started to unravel at the seams, and more is on the way. Don Clark is another one that is going to get his, with his good lying ass. The truth is going to come out if it hasn’t already as to who gave Rita that pack of lie. Before this is all over, Rita will sing like a humming bird.

Boy Rita did not know much according to this response.Is this the same attorney that told her it was alright to have another attorney fudge a bill for Rita.Seems to me Rita did no vetting of anyone in her book about the truth of their statements and if we the public cam find out information so could she have if she had wanted to.This was filed on the 13th,wonder if her deposition would change any of it? Seems she is also saying let them prove it is not true,which is what she said in the beginning.Some of it sounds like JO and his expressions,also wonder about that? hyperbole???

Another thing is, these Howard haters obviously never did watch the Anna Nicole show. Because if they did, they would know Howard was her only true friend, and that she CHOSE to keep him in her life. They love to say, it was Howard who kept Anna away from her family. But if they watched the episode where Cousin Shelly came to visit, Anna was the one who didn’t want to talk to her. But Howard talked her into it, b/c he felt sorry for her.
It also gave me insight to what kind of family she did have. Anna talked about how she fixed her cousins teeth, but her cousin obviously didn’t appreciate what Anna did for her and let her teeth go. You can also hear her cousin asking for money not once, but twice in just one episode. I really believe that once Anna starting making money, they clung to her like leaches; Anna did what she could for them, but finally woke up and realized what kind of people they truley were and stopped giving. And I don’t blame her at all. I believe you give to those that are appreciative, but once they start to expect it, you have to stop.

Art and his readers, I have been swamped with ‘what happened’ request. Nothing happened, I am still Howard’s Private Investigator and more important his friend. We have only moved on to other issues on this case and we continue our work, happily!
For those who know me I love being on a winning team and I will miss Howard’s mom’s cooking for a few weeks. As it has been reported, I would have been a chef had I not been a cop! With that said, Howard’s mom has taught me a few new tricks in the kitchen!

Good reporting, I think we all forget that Howard is a man who lost the people he so very much loved and now instead of grieving and healing, he is caught in a circus of lawsuits all seemingly motivated by greed of others.
I have to say the last paragraph of your article brought tears to my eyes. It reminded all of us I hope that these are real people, that Anna and Daniel are gone, and Howard has not had time to grieve. I hope knowing that Anna knew she could trust him when everyone else just wanted her “things” brings him comfort in those midnight hours when we all seem to remember those we have loved who are now gone.

Ms. Rita in denial! that sounds about right! she doesn’t want to face the fact” that she wrote a book base on lies. Its a know fact to me from listening and reading the news. that some” of the media’ and reporters’ for their own personal reason think they are the law officfials. They don’t have enough respect for our law enforcement officials”. So Rita and Virge’s team want to get Howard out And Ms. Rita wrote her book of lies. to make Howard look bad for support for Ms. Virge on behave, to gain power” over Anna’s estate (for her baby girl).

It seems like a pretty weak response to Howard’s libel suit. Rita basically denies everything. I’m sure all this has hurt book sales and will continue hurting sales as the court proceedings progress and that is good. I wonder if people really think about the sleeze factor here. Virgie’s group runs around insinuating Howard’s actions continually while Howard and L. lin Wood have taken the high road and have been very proper in what they are doing. I’m feeling positive that the sleezes will go walking away with their heads down while Howard will walk with his head up (and lots of money in his pockets from these lawsuits) when everything is done and said.

EXACTLY!!! Anna Nicole and Howard were the outrageous, sexed-up version of Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz. All anyone has to do is go over to Youtube and watch her shows like “Shopping for Howard” or “Anna’s Christmas Party” or “Anna shopping with Kimmie”. This was how they made their living together. There are too many similarities between the character in that movie and her behavior on the clown video to disregard. It has always been obvious to me that they were making a video to be presented on her site. Howard can be heard making comments to a “Mark” who was later discovered to place videos on her site. Also, Anna can be heard saying “Hi, to all my fans”.
The Clown Video, IMO, has been the one most devastating blow to Howard that Shelley, Thompson, and Team Texas collaborated on to spin the idea that Howard kept Anna drugged, controlled, and whacked out of her mind even in pregnancy. Remember Shelley testified for Team Texas during the hearings in Florida. It has always been obvious that they were all in cahoots to vet out their agendas for financial gain or vendettas. Team Texas’ alliance with Shelley came first for the hearings in Florida; then an alliance with Rita followed to present the next blow right before the inquest in the Bahamas.
Rita had interviewed people in Anna and Howard’s life that were credible, genuine, had nothing to gain,and were not seeking 15 minutes of fame but she chose to disregard them.

Rita denies libel. Well we knew that was coming didn’t we? I could see that when her attorney relayed ‘at the time the book was published’. Because Rita was in a rush to have some cash flow to pay her mortgage? No job in sight? The poor thing.
I’m sitting here choaked up because I was one of the many that laughed at Anna when she did her show on ET. She blew my mind as I was entertained while raising 4 small children and housebound with them. She was an escape and an eye opener. Now that I know that most reality shows are scripted and edited heavily to get the most shock for the buck, who knows what really went on, but there’s no doubt she did love to entertain.
I wish Rita and those that helped present the facade would have to take out full page ads of apoligies in major newspapers and this time make the talk show circuit and admit their part and their agenda/s. And I hope she and the other parties have to pay out the nose. A comfortable but not extravagant exsistense for a man that lost people he cared about. And enough left over to finance educational awareness into addiction and sexual/mental abuse. Start them in Anna’s and Danny’s names. So some good can come out of their lives. So they can be remembered for something other than tv/tabloid/ratings fodder.
Lets get to the end of this and let Anna and Daniel rest in peace. Bless both of your souls.

Art, I’m not sure how this woman could fail to have serious doubts about much of what she put into that book. I immediately had serious doubts about its veracity, and that was based solely on common sense and the fact that the book appears to have been written and published in great haste, and certainly not with enough time allotted to fully investigate the allegations contained therein. This is borne out by the fact that it is so poorly written and edited that not even spelling errors were detected prior to publication.
I also note that her answer is odd, in that she appears to be admitting some things about which she could not possibly have personal knowledge (such as whether Jackie Hatten had ever been to the home Stern and Smith shared in 2002).
I’m particularly interested in her affirmative defense of unclean hands. I’d like to know what she thinks he did, which would possibly negate what she has done to him (assuming that his claim against her is true). Is that a roundabout way of reinstating her claim that he was involved in the deaths?

I truly believe it’s all downhill now for Rita Cosby. I hope she never get’s another job as a reporter and that her income drops until she has to work at a fast food restaurant. She has lost all integrity (I really don’t think she ever had any) and respect from many famous and non-famous people. Howard God Bless and Be with you forever.

Crosby doth protest too much..than she adds insult to injury by stating she expects to be paid if she is found not guilty for all she has written. I read the book, I returned the book, I told the book seller that it was a work of fiction and should be taken off the shelves due to its libel content. She is now reading this blog.
The word accountability comes to mind along with global responsibility for Dannilynn, wonder how Rita would like it if someone wrote a book on her and her lack of integrity, and all her denials it just does not add up and to be honest she is now the QUEEN of Mean,..SHE IS NOW CLEOPATRA OF DENILE…and she lies like a rug. She is shameful and deliberate, you get Her Howard, pulverize her.

Fredia thank you for the videos.I especially like the one in memory of ANS on utube and the second one with JFK in Texas.I was just 18 at the time and cried while I watched what happened.IMO we lost a great man.What would we do with out you at times.Rita Has unclean hands so what is she talking about.It seems to me she is still saying let them prove it is not true and that she does not have to prove what she wrote is true .Sure hope that is not true,otherwise we could all write books and say anything we wanted and say well we believe it was true at the time.

I am still waiting to hear that the videotape of HKS and LB
having a gay affair actually exists. Nobody seems to be able to locate this tape. Where is it? I think I know where it is. It exists only in the mind of Rita Cosby, that alleged tale may have been fed to her by Jackie Hatten, a person who suffers from a huge intellectual deficit. And even if HKS and LB did have an affair, does anyone really think they would nuts enough to have it videotaped? I don’t think so. That’s something(if it really happened, that is), that the parties would want to carry on in complete privacy. And I don’t think that affair took place anyway.

I admit it was very tiring to read “deny,deny,deny”, and I did not go back to see what she was denying.
But, it’s obvious that Rita is still hawking her book, “which must be read in context of the entire book.”
I think that her Affirmative Defense is very weak, and I despise #8. Probably because JO used that term

She was certainly telling a different story in her March 7, 2007 report. She even mentioned that the Gibson’s were a well-known and well-respected family in the Bahamas and she even says that they told a different story than some of the negative stories she was being told..
It seems that when Rita wrote her book she forgot what she had written in this report what she was told in these two interviews. These interviews tell a different story about ANS and HKS than the way they are portrayed in RC book (I haven’t read the book so I am basing this on everything I have heard and read from people who have read the book). I wanted to read the book for myself but I just can’t bring myself to give RC and her publisher my money.

Although I am vey bias agaisnt Rita, I am having a very hard time seeing how she’s going to get out of this one.

Wow, I’m enjoying all the informative posts!.
We are all busy with our lives and making a living, and it’s hard to keep up with everything, thus info from here and there from everybody really fills in the gaps. I agree with someone that the Clown Video was the most insidious campaign, and it’s great to know that the tape was indeed selectively edited as I’d suspected! But was wondering when it’ll all come out.
By the way, I never listened all the “expert anlysts” (unlike my spouse) regarding the tape: I simply *knew* that Anna was *Clowning Around*. How, some may wonder, would I have known that? Duh, how about… I saw the Clown Make-Up on her face!
Beth #25, it’s a good thing that you’ve publicly asked Greta to update on *stories* she had covered repeatedly in the past (I never saw her shows since she left CNN – except for a few minutes early on to see her plastic face that she outed to promote her FoxSkeevy). She shouldn’t stop now, just because the tide is turning due to the light; that’s not the way ethical reporting is done; after all they were (and still are, simply by not updating anymore because it no longer serves their purpose – although they may be lightly glossing them over?) all trying to totally ruin an innocent person’s life for their own gain one way or another.

The truly ultimate humiliation happened to Rita Cosby at the Pacha bash for her Anna Nicole epic, Blonde Ambition, when a Howard K. Stern droog handed her his lip-smacking lawsuit right on the way in. Defiant Rita took the stage to cheers and promised, “We’re not going to be intimidated by this smear campaign. We stand behind what we have in the book 110 percent!” She then wisely thanked her lawyers, who came out to give testimonials about how great she is. Then Anna Nicole’s mom, Virgie Arthur (yes, Anna Nicole was like a Virgie), came out and—sobbing even harder than the lesbian’s mother—declared “Rita’s done a great job!” and thanked her lawyers, who were the same two from Rita Cosby! And finally, to complete the cable realness, Natalee Holloway’s mother bounced out and declared, “When Rita came to Aruba, she had one mission—to seek justice!” Hey, maybe Howard killed Natalee too.

Has anyone thought about the fact that O’quinn is friends with the widow Elaine Marshall?
Maybe he’s doing all this to make sure the Marshall’s keep the money & he gets a cut. He can’t possibly think that Vergie will get the money.

Joy Boesl: I definately think O’Quinn is figuring on getting some Marshall money out of this (one way or another). I believe that is the only reason he took Virgie’s case, unless he was paying back a favor to someone in the FBI.

Rita Cosby is in quick sand and it is going to get worse before it gets any better for her. If she was smart she would try to settle this out of court and make it all go away. Even though I think Howard’s behavior has been suspect at times, no one deserves to have lies like these published about them. I hope that Howard can take what looks like it will be a good payday and just relax and let all the rest of these lawsuits go, and just focus on living a good life and not focus on bringing more legal action to cause more unrest and likely disappointment (i.e. the action he and Larry intend to bring for Anna’s “piece” of the Marshall estate).
