The Bald Truth has learned Rita Cosby’s attorneys are asking a federal judge to seal a videotaped deposition the ex-MSNBC host gave in New York Thursday, Nov. 15 in connection with the $60 million libel suit filed against her by Howard K. Stern for smearing him in her book, Blonde Ambition.
U.S. District Judge D.J. Chin greenlit the speedy discovery request to take her testimony by Stern attorney Lin Wood –to get to the bottom of Cosby’s alleged attempt to pay Anna Nicole Smith’s ex-nannies for an affidavit confirming gay sex reports about Stern and Larry Birkhead she details in her book that both deny. The nannies are expected to be witnesses in the libel suit, and the inquest in the Bahamas next week.
After her book hit the stores, Cosby flew to the Bahamas to meet with the two Haitian immigrants she admits she’d never met or interviewed for Blonde Ambition, and wound up caught on secret audiotape in a “sting operation” by the nannies’ lawyer, a former high-level justice department minister, and PR man, Lincoln Bain, a 10 year veteran of the Royal Bahamian police turned popular TV host.
“At this moment, I can report the Bahamian people are not very happy with Rita Cosby,” Bain told me today.
Nor would Cosby be happy with Bain, whose sting morphed Nannygate into an international incident worthy of U.S. federal court scrutiny, not to mention an embarrassing tug-fest where Cosby, the investigative reporter, demands Bain return the tape recorder she was purportedly using to secretly capture the encounter, unaware that she was also the target of a little Carribean sting.
In a court order, obtained earlier by The Bald Truth, Judge Chin said he was “concerned” that transcripts of Bain’s tapes showed Cosby offering to pay thousands of dollars if the women would confirm gay sex allegations Cosby claims the women gave at least one Virgie Arthur private investigator she relied on as a source for her New York Times bestselling shocker Stern has blasted as nothing but lies.
On Thursday, Cosby faced Stern attorney Lin Wood, who was scheduled to take her deposition about those attempts to shore up her reporting and allegedly influence two witnesses in the case.
Cosby attorneys have denied she did anything wrong. One of her attorneys has said her source was a respected 25 year veteran of the FBI turned private investigator.
But the only PI matching that CV, Don Clark, chief investigator for Houston attorney John O’Quinn, Arthur’s lawyer, has denied he’s her source, and said he had no idea she was even writing a book until it came out. His sidekick, Wilma Vicedomine, a so-called investigator, has said she had frequent contact with Cosby.
Vicedomine has been subpoened for a Lin Wood deposition Dec. 5 in Houston, in connection with the defamation suit Stern has filed against her boss, O’Quinn.
Regarding Cosby’s hot seat appearance, we did learn Thursday’s deposition began at 10 a.m., and didn’t wrap until almost 9 p.m. Such a long day, legal experts tell me, suggests that Cosby was characteristicly chatty, rambling on freely, unafraid and unconcerned about invoking a 5th amendment privilege against self-incrimination. Experts tell me taking the 5th would have likely shortened the deposition dramatically, and sent everyone home in time for lunch.
However, in requesting the judge seal the videotapes and transcripts of Cosby’s testimony, it may one of the first times the Emmy Award winning TV reporter has asked NOT to be on television.

Hi Art,
Do you know if it’s true, that if Judge Chin believes a criminal act such as attempting to tamper with a witness did occur, he is obliged to turn the matter over to the prosecutors office? Isn’t that considered a felony? Can Lin Wood also turn that information over to a prosecutor? Is this the strategic reasoning Rita Cosby’s attorney has requested the deposition be sealed?

I am not sure if I understand correctly, but I do not think it is fair that Rita has this kind of protection. She was all over TV with the lies, now that she is exposed it is just fair that it is all over TV for all to see her for what she is. I do not like this at all. Howard had no protection against the lies and slander. Can Mr Wood not counter the request for the sealing of the video? Now Rita and the fools who believe her can continue with their hate speech? This is so not fair!!!

Thats a great point Beverly. With the arrogance she had on all those TV shows after that thing that was called a book came out! She deserves no mercy at all! But I believe a lot of the crap was false bravado–You could see the phony brave act during an interview see gave to Fox News’s John Gibson when he said that Lin Wood would have her for lunch. And now he is! I truly think that Cosby thought she could make a quick buck off the death of ANS and was more than happy to talk to “people” who had no problem trahsing Howard. But once Larry was freindly with Howard, man did that throw a wrench into things! So what do we do about Larry and Howard suddely becoming friendly? Make them gay! I’d be willing to bet that Rita Cosby just assumed that she could get away with this trash assuming that Howard and Larry wouldnt bother to sue. Litte did she know. And as nice of a person I truly do believe Howard K. Stern is, he is like a pack of wolves when it comes to the memory and image of Anna Nicole Smith- Girlfrind, don’t go there! An now Rita, as Sgt. about invoking a 5th amendment privilege against self-incrimination….however Crosby cannot count it was evident when someone asked her how many witnesses did she actually speak to before she wrote the book, her response “I am not sure how many, in person none, on the phone many.” How did she know she was speaking to the right person, and how did she check out her information if she was willing to pay the nannies..GUESS SHE PAID THE OTHER PEOPLE WHO SPOKE TO HER TOO, secretely,like Jackie hasbeen haddon, someone should investigate all those in the book that Rita supposedly spoke to, and check their recent account balances in the bank. Hello everyone. My guess is that not releasing the depo now is a good thing, but not for the reasons Rita is requesting. If it were released now, those still being deposed would know what Rita said and if you think about it, it is better for Howard if they do not. There is probably an active ongoing investigation into what Rita did. I do feel though that at some point after everyone has been deposed, the depo should be released! Rita should not be able to benefit from having her conduct hidden. She has no problem sharing the personal information of others, whether lies or not, to the whole world! What is good for the goose is good….oh never mind, you know the rest. LOL

As for The Inquest, we’re looking forward to up to the minute reports from the Bahamas top celebrity journalist, maybe the only one–Lincoln Bain, aka, Mr Controversy, who will be phoning in his take on the hearings as a special correspondent for The Bald Truth.
So compare his take with press accounts and bloggers for Team Virgie–we hear one will be in the courtroom–or be getting text messages from an insider with orders to spin on TMZ and elsewhere as she did last time. Thankyou so much and am waiting to read all about the inquest and the Rita fiasco. Can’t come soon enough. This crap has to stop.
When this first started way back when Anna won the right to go after the Marshall money and when the talk started about her pregnancy my radar started to twitch, now it is never off. None of this made sense and still doesn’t. I hope all the story will eventually come out. I would love a true book not just about Anna but Howard and all that he has endured to keep the faith.
The story about beating the spin doctors would be quite a good read. Probably would become a Text book on the modern Media using the Internet as a tool. Journalist students take note, joe public does have a B..l S..t meter.
It was fun to read John’s take on things. Hope he keeps his thoughts coming but maybe he will need an alias.

I think the saddest part in all this is that Anna was so abused by her mother and family, that she never had a chance at a normal happy life,that her mother to this day is still abusing her and more disgustingly, seems to take great pleasure in it. It’s heartwrenching to watch a mother do this to her own baby girl. Very painful to see. What a loser. I can’t understand why Anna wanted nothing to do with her….
Dannielynn needs to be protected from the same fate.I guess ugly is as ugly does. Thank god there are a bunch of guys who are on the ball and will keep that cuttie patootey wee one safe from harm.

Thanks for the update. Bain will find out how Howard felt when he starts covering the inquest, which will help Howard even more. Team Stupid is making Americans look bad. I can just see the VA supporters downing Bain(it didn’t take them long to turn on Greta). He is one I would be careful with, their hate and greed may come back to bite them in the butt.
Do you know yet if VA is supposed to be in the courtroom, or will she have to sit in the hall like the other time. She was nothing to Daniel in life, so blood does not count in my book.If she is in the courtroom, I hope they pat her down good for cell phones and such since I’m sure she will have a deal with Splash.

The fact that everyone else can slam HKS publicly over and over is wrong. She made his life in her book public, full of lies for all the world to see, so what is good for goose is better for the gander. If he can be dragged through the mud time and time again, so can everyone else. I say show it all, from all sides. Why should HKS be the only one here? Air everyone’s dirty laundry for the world to see. Just seems fair and balanced to me! I hope the tape is shown to the world just like Anna and Howard’s life has been. Art…Are you going to be at the Inquest? Are they allowing American reporters there also? Who all will be allowed in the courtroom and or outside to report? I hope they do NOT allow Fox or Splash there. They do not deserve to be there after all they have done in this case. I hope they make them stay and wait as far away as the airport where they came in so they can go out just as quickly.
Has anyone found out about why VA team and entourage is there and anything about the “estate of DWS,” is why they are there. They also should not be allowed just to take notes for an upcoming book or to try and make money. Is any of what they have said about why they are there, factual? JMHO, as usual.
Good luck at the Inquest and I know all will be fine after all the facts come to light.

No way would I ever think of Liz Thompson as “blowing in the wind”. From the first time I saw her and heard her speak, I thought “Wow” there is a woman that has my respect and can’t be influenced by opinions of the television talking heads, and their biased spin. It is very refreshing.

Art,I am surprised that Bain is going to be your man inside the courtroom. I know he busted Rita, but he is supporting the nannies in their statements about Howard. Aren’t they going to be O’Quinn’s witnesses against Howard in the lawsuit. They’ve made a lot of accusations against Howard.

When I saw Rita’s action in the Bahamas my first thought was the total disrespect she was showing to Ms. Thompson and Mr. Bain. She was playing them – or so she thought. They surprised her and the player got played. Rita looked like a fool, worse than that – a silly stupid fool. I hope Mr. Wood turned her every which way but loose in that deposition. I hope he made her beg and cry like she cried and begged Mr. Bain to give back her phone during that fight in the Bahamas.

I am so relieved to hear that Howard has been able to piece together what that scumbag has been doing. I also understand what motivates those vicious, ugly, putrid people who post on TMZ. They are hired to destroy. It is high time O’Quinn got what he deserves for destroying so many lives throughout his despicable way of practicing law. #20. It’s not the number of sources she may have, it’s how believable they are…did she cross check facts, or ever wonder if the 25 year FBI veteran-turned JOQ PI might have an agenda other than justice?
As you said, we know she didn’t insist on confirming what the PIs said the nannies said, oops, or seeing the gay sex tape one JOQ investigator has told TMZ devotees is in the hands of FS. Now, if that were the case, don’t you think FS would have sold it by now, or given Geraldo a sneak peak, unless he’s just so tickled by it, he’s slobbering over it 24-7 — like he must have done when he found Anna pics on computers and videos purloined from Horizons, using them to frame Stern as a svengali when everyone knows Anna wore the pants. She sure kicked his butt to the curb when he tried to up the price he wanted for Horizons and showed up at the gate to get her to sign a mortgage the day after Daniel died.
That’s on a FOX tape that hasn’t been edited. Oh, but they were so close, says FS. So when you stir in recent attacks by FS and GBT, stir in Opri’s fallout with Larry, it seems it’s Stern and Birkhead fighting an army of greed.
So much chicanery, so little time to expose it.
The test will be whether Virgie PIs can spin other law enforcement pals the way they spun Rita, buying their Stern as criminal theories and doing their dirty work. So far, the Royal Bahamian police have dug and interviewed and can’t find evidence of a crime in Daniel’s death.
And I can tell you, LOL, Broward County prosecutors recently rebuffed Don Clark’s efforts to have Anna’s death investigation reopened in Florida. Said they’d done their job. Hey, Don, remember Dr. Perper? Accidental overdose. Remember Seminole Police Chief Charlie Tiger, ex homicide detective in Hollywood, Fla.: NO evidence of a crime, case closed?
My prosecution sources tell me Virgie’s PI was invited to serve up new evidence, if he had any, to justify reopening the investigation. They’re still waiting.
“We asked him, ‘Where’s the beef?’” That from a source familiar with the back and forth between JOQ and Broward homicide boys, who said their job was done, and short of a tape showing someone force-feeding Anna chloral hydrate, hey, get over it.
Over the years, I’ve covered some big FBI cases and have imminent respect for the bureau, value agents as friends and even know agents who think highly of Clark.
But the FBI also brought us WACO, Richard Jewel as the Atlanta Olympic Park bomber, oops, and a D.C. lab that was so shoddy over a decade ago, cases that had testing done there had to be tossed. And there are still questions about how the 9-11 hijackers fooled them all…
They’re good, but human. Crack Broward County prosecutors understand this, and not wanting to offend Clark, invited him to share after he fired off a letter trying to persuade them to reopen Anna’s death probe.
They politely wrote back, inviting new evidence he never did provide, and saying, no way.
After that rebuff, my Broward sources tell me DC wanted a face-to-face to pitch his case. Sorry, Don, they said, suspecting the JOQ machine might use an actual meeting to spin it into a press conference, and the next thing you know, wham, a headline that Broward is going after HKS when they’re not.
After all, it was Stern who gave them permission to search Anna’s computers when they had no probable cause, so he’s got more credibility with them than the ex fed who was trying to mau mau a meeting, my sources tell me.
The doctored clown video plays into all this, but we’ll save that for another night. Thanks for the great questions and support, and please, beware of Kool Aid, in any flavor, especially when offered by the unwashed and brainwashed who keep trying to crash the party with blind hatred.
I once did a series on terrorism, and spent time in a Gaza Strip jail, interviewing captured suicide bombers. Several explained how they’d swallowed a phony read of the Koran as demanding they carry out revenge by strapping explosives on and blowing up Israelis. I also watched one boy come out of his fog after a father found his suicide note in his desk and turned him in. He was 15 and they talked. The boy now wants to go to medical school in the U.S.
All he had to do was give up the illusion they’d promised, that he’d get 72 wives and wonderful food after the boom. The weather is perfect in heaven, they preached, but the ex suicide bomber discovered another way to look at his world, with facts, not blind faith that all Israelis are evil, or buying the party line that Howard K. Stern is a murderer, that truth in this life is a good place to start.

Howard not only shot that video, but he was manipulating the string on her back on the video where she is shaking and talking about her poor mother, per Howard’s words. Hey Howard, what goes around comes around. You are the only one who is doing the manipulating and conning and lying.

Sandy, we have seen only bits and pieces of the “clown video”. Anna delivered a healthy baby – how could she have been “stoned out of her mind”? Also on that same video Howard said to Anna “Don’t run Anna, you will hurt yourself”. He was always trying to take care of and protect Anna. Howard and Anna filmed just about everything, including the birth of Dannielynn which, in my opinion, were meant to be precious, sweet and PRIVATE moments for them – private moments made public, thanks to Ford Shelly.

Well Art, since you have created your own “Night Owl Club” by late postings, may as well comment.
Since your site was mentioned by Larry’s lawyer as being a repository for Opra’s documents sliming Larry….I am wondering if perhaps it will be/or has been “hit on” twofold by O’Quinn to try to show that his TV appearances did not bias viewers against Howard, while on the other hand…use comments on your site for Vergie’s evidence of people being turned against her.
Seems awfully strange to me that two sites suporting Howard were having problems?

I am not virgie’s hired hand. remember the whatever you might think of virgie that was anna’s mother. and i am a loyal fan of anna’s that only wants the truth to come out and see that justice is done. not to see howard munipulate and be made the victim. the victims are dead in there graves. anna had a problem with drugs but howard was well aware of this and many others and did nothing to stop it. if he we’re any kind of true friend he would have not let this go on. so you stay on the howard banwagon. i just want the truth. ridicule me if you must. if it makes you feel better. i only care that anna and daniel did not die in vien. Gidget, you amaze me. If you are unable to see some truth by now you probably never will. It is plain to see that no one manipulated Anna. In my opinion she was a very smart woman – smart enough to never let Howard go. Howard seemed to hang on to Anna’s every word, he loved her. It is hard to believe how totally blind some people are to the truth. You said “hey Howard, what goes around comes around”. I think you are right about that.

Art, will the clown video be shown in its entirety? Every time I watch the second video that was on Geraldo I get so mad because you can clearly tell even though her face was blurred that Riley WAS NOT scare!!!! Talk about stupid here, Sandy, he was not trying to clear their names! They hired him due to the trash that was all over the media and being tried in the media for their daughter’s death. Hmmm…you left out the FBI colleague who sold government secrets to the enemy for years, and apparently no one suspected him of having his own scam going. Anna was in the depths of deep dispair. She cried for a mother to comfort her and got a toxic ball of acid spit in her face.Run Dannielynn run!! How much more poison does this so called mother have in her flower pen. I have a feeling the sewerage is going to continue to flow. The real reason Mamatoxic sued Howard wasn’t because her neighbors were snarling at her as she walked by, the real reason is her image was so negative after the whole funeral debacle she couldnt put her own name on the book and cash in because no one would buy the book.. She had to use Rita’s name and therefor share the money.

You are so right in your last post. Virgie’s neighbors know who and what she is and they’re probably as disgusted as we are with her. She thought she would get to live the life off Anna, didn’t and isn’t gonna happen. She can get ready to stay put in the pasture next to her shack. I don’t care what they try to conjure up, their goose is cooked. Get the utensils out and make sure there’s a fork in there because they’re done.
