Shock of the Century: Jury Finds O.J. Simpson Not Guilty
By Art Harris, (c) www.artharris.com, all rights reserved
We expect the new publisher if O.J. Simpson’s cancelled “If I Did It,” to change the book’s name to something like, “She Made Me Do It,” a cold confessional that blames his ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, for pushing him over the edge to commit the double rage murders that left her and Ron Goldman lifeless in a pool of blood on the back steps of her Bundy house in 1994.
I recall a witness saying he spied an O.J.-like figure lurking in the shadows as Nicole embraced her younger lover. Then, according to investigators I interviewed covering the trial, they believe Simpson confronted her, Goldman bravely stepped up and O.J’s swing blade did the rest.
If Beaufort Books can repackage and reposition “If I Did It,” earlier perceived as a shameless attempt for Simpson to profit from his unspeakable crime, into O.J.’s True Confessions, it just might become a bestseller, and start paying off part of $38 million wrongful death judgment the Goldman’s won in a civil suit.
Harper Collins, the original publisher, killed the project, destroying 400,000 copies after a public backlash. Beaufort will have to sell more than that by marketing it as finally, a killer confesses, and hope it strikes a chord.
Michael Wright, spokesman for the LA literary agent who brokered the deal, says the plan is to “leave Simpson’s manuscript entirely intact,” while adding “key commentary,” He said the Goldmans, the publisher and agent Sharlene Martin will all donate part of the sales proceeds to the Ron Goldman Foundation for Justice.
On a talk show, someone asked if Simpson could actually sue the Goldman’s for defamation for portraying him as a cold-blooded killer after a criminal jury let him walk. Impossible, says Laurie Levenson, professor at Loyola University Law School, “because a civil jury found him guilty by a preponderance of the evidence.”
Asked if the Goldmans should feel guilty about taking what some critics call “blood money,” Levenson said, “Why should they if it’s got O.J.’s blood all over it?”

There is no way I’d ever buy or read that book. I detest OJ Simpson and what he did to those two. There is absolutely NO doubt in my mind that he is as guilty as sin. I’m glad that he won’t be making any money off it, but I just couldn’t read that. I followed it all on TV and I can’t go there again.
Another thing, she was his EX-wife. He had no claim on her anymore, but like so many other men, they think if they can no longer have someone, then no one else can either. This happens so many times and has to stop.
I do hope that any money Mr. Goldman makes, he will donate to this fund in his son’s name or some other charity.

I think this is all in bad taste. I would not buy it, so therefore, I wouldn’t try to name it. I think this is ridiculous all in the name of MONEY. Changing the name of the book is not going to sell anymore copies. I feel for the Goldmans as far as them losing their love one, but they need to get over their greed. They make people think it’s always been about money and not about Ron and Nicole. What a shame!
According to the Goldmans, this book was utterly disgusting when they thought it was going to be published and they weren’t going to profit off of it. Now it’s ok, since they are? Get that bs out of here.

Shame on the company who bought this trash perhaps we should boycott this company, shame on the people who buy it and shame on OJ for not coming out sooner and admitting it it would of saved the government millions of dollars in court costs and that money could of gone to a worthy cause like teaching our children in schools about domestic violence and making more battered womens shelters. Maybe the government can sue him for this too. I am sure that the Goldmans are thrilled to get this blood money from this book to help the foundation that their beloved son, had to die for. NOT!

1st the Brown family wanted some of the profits now they say it should never be published because of the harm it will cause Nicole’s children. Why did they want a share of the profits? I don’t think this is about money to the Goldmens, it validates(?) their belief that OJ did kill their son. It’s in OJ’s own words.

What if O.J. didn’t do it? None of us know for sure who did it - only that someone did. I’ll admit that there is some evidence that points to O.J. but in my opinion it might be tainted and could have been planted. I’m just not sure he is guilty and if he is innocent - look at what the media, public opinion and Fred Goldman has done to O.J.’s life. Just like in the Howard/Anna situation - scores of people have walked all over him and destroyed his life for their own self interest. Fred Goldman (just like Larry Burkhead) is not as innocent as he would like us to think - it’s all about money, money, money and look at me, me, me!!!
If O.J. did commit these murders I think his attorneys could have won the case claiming temporary insanity but instead they won the case claiming his innocence. That should have been the end of the story but there is still too much money to be made sucking the life out of O.J.. If he is innocent - what a shame!

Dear Art,
Was that Cato Kayland (sp) lurking in the shadows?
What about this title, “I Shudda Got The Juice!”
But, the marketeers should really consider “Blood” because of the implication, or “50 cent” since that’s all the book would be worth.
IMHO
August 17th, 2007 at 4:54 pm
Dear Art,
What was the deal with Kato Kaylan, cheap rent?
What was the the racial makeup of that jury?
I’m loopy, and confused, and my sense of reality and justice seems to be all twisted and distorted…you would think I’ve watched way too, much tabloid television, or something, LOL.
Oh, yea, I forgot for a moment, it’s all about that math.

Who the heck am I to judge this man, they called OJ, so severely.
May he judge himself.
August 17th, 2007 at 7:42 pm
I watched that whole sorry mess when it was shown live on TV and could not understand how, if OJ did it, how he could possibly dissassociate himself so completely from that horror. He must have been on something potent enough to destroy his brain cells or wipe out his memory.
Some compulsive liars have crossed my path, so I do understand how they can lie so freely; but to commit such heinous act and go on with life as ususal is not comprehensible.

P.S. I would have preferred that Goldman be awarded that book so he could burn it. No one should read or touch that book. To profit from such trash may be revenge for losing his son, but it does not sit right with me.
I hope Nicole’s two children are OK.

August 18th, 2007 at 10:15 pm
I’m not concerned with whether or not O.J. did it. However This whole “If I Did It” mess exposes Fred Goldman for the money hungry PIG he is! The Browns don’t want the book published; HE wants the money, and he GOT it. Lets not forget that he wasn’t the ONLY one awarded money. The ESTATE of Nicole Brown Simpson, which is Sydney and Justin, NOT the Brown family, was ALSO awarded money so why should he get it ALL? Like it or not O.J. WAS acquitted and left to raise their two kids. All those CLAIMING to be outraged by the verdict, yelling from the mountain tops that no matter WHAT the verdict O.J. was STILL a murderer, did they ever stop and consider how they affected those two kids?
The Brown family has had to walk a fine line these years. No matter how deeply they believe O.J. did it, if they wanted to keep a relationship with her kids, THEIR flesh and blood, they would have to keep a civil relationship with this man and it MUST have been hard. I’m sure that’s why they’ve kept a low profile all these years, while at every opportunity Goldman was screaming how he’d never gotten any money!
Fred Goldman hasn’t offered to share a CENT. He’s a money grubber that gives ALL Jews a bad name. NOT a nobel man!

The so called dream team got him off.I am sure he has a lot of guilt or at least I would think he has and a lot to explain to his children.I don’t know how OJ could of brought this up.I would have thought he would of considered his children before he wrote this book.Maybe he needed to get it off his chest to live with himself??IMO maybe he needed money and this was one way to make it??who knows? As I said before I would not buy this book no matter who wrote it or who benifited from it.

Freida,
Thank you for your last response on this subject. I have no harsh feelings about it. I was offended by it when I first read it. Because you see, I am a black female with two black men in my life that I love very much. One is my husband, a criminal defense attorney, the second one is my son, a family/probate attorney. Crimes are committed by ALL colors. All black men and all athletes are not bad. So much for that.
Have a great day.

Dear EJ,
Sometimes, quite often in fact, I go overboard commenting here. Most of the time, I’m just trying to have fun, and sometimes I’m trying to be smart, then sometimes I’m trying real hard to understand…because most of the time I don’t know the facts.
I, hopefully, will never be asked to sit in judgement of anyone, I would feel guilty, just because I would have to respectfully decline that duty, my conscience could never allow me to convict someone…in a court of laws, where it seems you never hear the whole story, just some of the facts, and the ‘drama’ as they are presented and unfold.
Your husband and son, and juries, have awesome jobs, and most black men and most athletes are good!!!
So, help me God…please forgive me E.J.
Love Always,
Freida

I found this ‘tribute’ for OJ…he truly accomplished a lot.
He was an outstanding individual, and what about his passion and his drive and his spirit?
And, what about Cowlings?
Seems, we really don’t know, do we.

I would like to remember the wonderful man OJ once was, and the faith he gave to so many, instead of being so, negative and suspicious.
Yet, I’m only human, just an ordinary individual, really!

Freida,
Don’t get me wrong. It’s not about O.J. that offended me, it was the “All black men and athletes” comment that really did it. You don’t have to remember anything about O.J. on my account. I don’t personally know him. Each person is entitled to his or her own opinion, but when you group a race of people and stereotype them because of what a few people do, is wrong.
As I’ve stated before, I am cool with it. So I really don’t have any further comments on this.
