Unless federal marshals walk in with an injunction to stop it, Anna Nicole Smith’s contested diaries will go on the auction block, and to the highest bidder Saturday, April 14, at 1 p.m at Heritage Auction Galleries in Dallas, Texas.

Howard K. Stern claims the diaries are stolen and is threatening to sue unless Heritage complies with his request to “return this stolen property to its rightful owner”— Anna Nicole’s estate, writes attack dog lawyer, L. With so much legal intensity lately, I just wanted to lighten it up for a minute to remind my wonderful readers, whether we agree or not, whether Nancy Grace throws me an evil beanball when I’m her guest…whether Carol Martin, cosmetic surgery consultant, thinks I need it or not (no place to hide the scars), or whether I get lucky and draw Jane Valez as grand inquisitioner on CNN Headline News, it’s never personal here at The Bald Truth.

As the saying goes, a prosecutor can convince a grand jury to indict a ham sandwich because he or she controls what’s presented…and in the case of three exonerated Duke Lacrosse players, well, if they can be railroaded for rape by a bogus accuser in the good old USA, what hope is there for Howard K. Stern in the notoriously corrupt Bahamas, where an ex-marijuana smuggler-turned millionaire landlord, is trying to get him evicted, and the constitution doesn’t allow jurors to be questioned for bias?

So far, Stern’s only a witness in Daniel’s death, one of 40, but that could change if there’s enough so-called evidence, however thin, in a country that dislikes him already, and several witnesses have already changed their stories. So…that’s your homework tonight–to ponder the Duke case as a parable of modern day justice in a 24-hour news cycle and how it can go terribly wrong…

If an overzealous DA hustling votes can whip lynch mob mentality and weak evidence into a frenzy to indict –and nearly destroy –three very lucky rich kids, however brilliantly defended, what are Vegas odds against a regular Joe falsely accused, much less Howard K. Stern in Bonefish country?

While Saturday Night Live may lampoon Larry Seidlin as a teary, cultural icon, the crying judge of Anna Nicole Smith trial fame, the Broward County Bar Association president is rallying to his defense as “one of the longest serving and most distinguished Broward County Judges in the history of the Bench” who was neither acting nor playing to the cameras, just being himself.

Get outa here. No, really; it’s hot off the presses in the April Barrister, the county bar newsletter in a “special message” from its president, attorney Victor DeBianchi, who calls Seidlin “a good and honest Judge whose decisions are sound and based on what is right.”

That’s essentially what the 4th Circuit Court of Appeals said when it slapped down Virgie Arthur’s lawyers and upheld Seidlin’s ruling, with one judge saying, “Between us and Judge Seidlin, we’re got 140 years of judicial experience.”
