Exclusive: Guess Who’s Coming To Town? Tomi Rae, Baby James in Court Friday
The Bald Truth has learned widow Tomi Rae Brown plans to be in Aiken, S.C. and attend the hearing to remove or restrain the trustees of James Brown’s estate on Friday. “She’s told us she wants to be there and we are delighted,” says attorney Robert Rosen.
At least some of James Brown’s children, named in the will that left out Tomi Rae and James II, are expected as well. It will be the first time her former step-children have seen Tomi Rae and a little boy they once called their little brother in public since their father’s funeral and memorial service.
The last time she was in town, she found the gates to the estate she shared with the rock singer locked. Long-time Brown attorney Buddy Dallas says he did it not to specifically lock out Tomi Rae, but to protect the property from interlopers.
Rosen says his client is coming to town and hopes to be allowed to return to the home she shared with the late singer to retrieve her belongings and her sons toys. That is one motion that will be presented to lawyers supervising the estate, and circuit Judge Jack Early could issue an order to make that happen, or take it under advisement, along with the children’s emergency petition to remove the trustees.
“We’re asking the judge to let her go in the house with the lawyers and our videographer, to make a record of everything that’s there and anything that may be missing,” says Robert Rosen, the Charleston, S.C. divorce lawyer handling the case. “We think he’ll issue the order to go in the house. It’s a no brainer, as long as all the parties are there.”
Tomi Rae also wants to see the body “to say goodbye to her husband” and “have a say in the burial,” says attorney Thornton Morris of Atlanta, a key adviser. “Only, no one has even told her where the body is. That’s not right. She lived with, and loved, James Brown for almost 10 years. She was married to him, they have a little boy. She has every right to be part of that process, and you can imagine how badly she feels right now being treated like an outsider.”
Beyond the hearing, there’s the case to prove she’s a bonafide bride, and establish paternity. While estate lawyers and trustees question both, Rosen concedes it will be a long haul, but he’s willing to take all the way to the South Carolina Supreme Court. “A journey of a thousand miles begins with one step,” he says.

Any word on why Mr Dallas got rid of the security guard that pinched them going into the house? thought I’d share a little something from The Godfather himself from his official autobiography, I Feel Good A Memoir Of A Life Of Soul, “Now, having married Tomi Rae Brown, I once again, much to my amazement, wanted children. And happily, so did she. We started living in the big house in South Carolina, but soon discovered a host of new problems neither of us had anticipated, although I shouldn’t have been surprised–I had been down this road before. People seemed disturbed by our pairing. Everyone was always friendly to our faces, but the elephant in the room was that I was Black and she was White, and there was no way that was ever going to go by unnoticed–even by some of my so called closest friends, on both sides of the color line.”
How much more proof is needed.

Venisha Brown seems to be the only one of the Brown Children to show Tomi Rae any kind of respect. Venisha don’t mind hugging Tomi Rae in public. Happy to know Tomi Rae was able to get her things, although I believed that’s going to be a big old mess. I read that Deanna beat her to the house. Don’t they get it? Tomi Rae lived there. Period.
The James Brown Children had to have appointements to come and visit Mr. James Brown.

I’m glad Art may be in SC at the same time Tomi Rae is. If I were Tomi Rae, I wouldn’t go back there until all this mess is cleared up. She needs to heal right now. It will be established that you are still married to Mr. Brown. At that time you can decide what of anything to do with the house. I think the executors/trustees/personal reps should be responsible for paying the taxes and any utility bills. They are the ones with access to the money right now. How is “Big D” paying the hired security firm? Get a neutral party to oversee the estate. These local yokels don’t know what they are doing. But I think they may know how to steal.

Some of these replies are nuts yall know Tomie Rae was not legally married to James Brown thats why she trying to get them to declare their union as comon law because she knows that SC recognizes common law unions plus that idiot knew she was married when she married James then I think the world has forgot that Tomie Rae and James got an annullment just to refresh some memories. Tomie Rae is a gold digger but the children is going to make sure she gets half of nothing
